The turbocharger is an essential component to realize the engine down-sizing. The moment of inertia of turbocharger rotor is an important parameter with respect to acceleration performance of the vehicle. It can be calculated from the CAD software based the geometry data and the material properties. But the accurate value of the inertia of turbocharger rotor must be measured through the experimental method. In this study, the measurement of moment of inertia of turbocharger rotor for 2.0 L spark-ignition engine was carried out. First, an experimental equipment using a trifilar method was designed and fabricated. Some optical devices, that is, photo sensor, counter, convex lens, etc, were used to increase the accuracy of the measurement. Second, error sensitivity for the equipment was analyzed. The error of period time and the radius can give big affects to the accuracy of the moment of inertia. When the amount of error of these two were each 1.0 %, maximum error of the moment of inertia was under 3.0 %. Third, the calibration for the equipment was performed using a calibration rotor which has similar shape to turbine rotor but simple. Calculated value from CAD software and measured one for the calibration rotor were compared. The total error of the equipment and the measurement is about 1.3 %. This result shows that the equipment can give the good result with resonable accuracy. Finally the moment of inertia of the turbine rotor and compressor wheel were measured. The coefficient of variations, the ratio of standard deviation to mean value, were reasonably small at 0.57 % and 0.73 % respectively. Therefore this equipment is suitable for the measurement of the moment of inertia of the turbine rotor and compressor wheel.
Spinning Rotor Gauge (SRG) has been used to transfer standard gauge for international comparison at the high vacuum standards. We calibrated a spinning rotor gauge by using dynamic calibration system (DCS) that was a national high vacuum standards system. And its uncertainties were evaluated with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), they were recognized ai A type uncertainty, B type uncertainty, combined Standard uncertainty, and expanded uncertainty. The combined standard uncertainties were $1.8007\times10^{-5}$ Pa ~ ~$4.8422\times10^{-5}$ Pa for this spinning rotor gauge.

In this paper, the calibration system for contact transducer has been developed to improve the reliability of the inspection result of ultrasonic testing on rotors. This system consists of signal processing parts: (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, pulser/receiver), standard block, and user interface program. Signal processing for the calibration system was performed quickly with high accuracy. The developed system has been applied to a practical calibration of probe using the non-destructive testing on rotors, and demonstrated high sensitivity and precision.

Small-scaled Rotor Test facility(GSRTS, General Small-scaled Rotor Test Facility) in KARI could not use the test because facility aging and parts discontinued. Also in order to perform a joint international research, GSRTS modifications should be needed. So requirements of GSRTS modifications were established and according to the requirements, GSRTS modifications were conducted. Facility operation test, 6-component fixed balance calibration, Small-scaled OLS rotor performance test were performed to verify the results of GSRTS modifications. Reasonable results were obtained in comparison to calculation results. Then GSRTS ready was completed to conduct international collaborative research and wind tunnel test.

General purpose of cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor(CCS) is measuring run-out motion and deflection of rotor. If CCS has narrow sensing range, its sensitivity coefficients must be calibrated precisely. And x, y component of CCS output can be coupled. In this research, CCS calibration procedure is automated with automatic calibration program and PC-controlled stage. And, coupled-terms of CCS signals were removed and the errors between measured position and mapped CCS signal were reduced obviously by sensitivity matrix that linearly.

In this study a 3-component rotating balance, which is designed to measure the thrust (Fz) and two moment components (Mx, My) simultaneously for a rotor test jig, is designed and its performance is validated experimentally. The low voltage signal from the strain gages mounted on the balance is amplified with a rotating amplifier, which is then fed through a slip-ring unit into the data acquisition system. In order to validate the accuracy of the calibration matrix obtained from a static calibration test, an additional reaction type balance is used to measure the thrust from a model rotor simultaneously, and shows very good result. Finally, the expanded uncertainty value, which is obtained from ISO method is estimated to be $2.82\times10^{-1}$, and the balance turns out to be reliable.

The exact load measurements for the mechanical parts of a wind turbine are important step both fur the evaluation of a specific wind turbine design and for a certification process. A common method for a mechanical load measurement is using a strain gauge sensing. Two main problems ought to be answered in order for this method to be applied to the wind turbine project. These are strain gauge calibration and non-contact signal transmission from the strain gauge output to a load monitoring system. This paper suggests reliable solutions fer these two problems. A Bluetooth, a short range wireless data communication technology, is used to solve the second problem. The first one, the strain gauge calibration methodology for a load measurement in a wind turbine application, is fully explained in this paper. Various mechanical loadings for a strain gauge calibration in a wind turbine load measurement are introduced and analyzed. Initial experimental results which are obtained from a 1 kW small size wind turbine are analyzed, and the uncertainty problem in estimating mechanical loads using a calibration matrix is fully covered in this paper.

The full results of troubleshooting process related to the flight control system of a tilt-rotor type UAV in the flight tests are described. Flight tests were conducted in helicopter, conversion, and airplane modes. The vehicle was flown using automatic functions, which include speed-hold, altitude-hold, heading-hold, guidance modes, as well as automatic take-off and landing. Many unexpected problems occurred during the envelope expansion tests which were mostly under those automatic functions. The anomalies in helicopter mode include vortex ring state (VRS), long delay in the automatic take-off, and the initial overshoot in the automatic landing. In contrast, the anomalies in conversion mode are untrimmed AOS oscillation and the calibration errors of the air data sensors. The problems of low damping in rotor speed and roll rate responses are found in airplane mode. Once all of the known problems had been solved, the vehicle in airplane mode gradually reached the maximum design speed of 440km/h at the operation altitude of 3km. This paper also presents a comprehensive detailing of the control systems of the tilt-rotor unmanned air vehicle (UAV).

In this paper the aeroacoustic characteristics of a helicopter main rotor system is measured by using a pair of scaled rotor blades. A low noise rotor test jig is developed for noise measurement and the rotational speed, thrust and torque are measured simultaneously in order to match the aerodynamic conditions with the full scale rotor. The accuracy of the force measurement device was checked through a calibration procedure. The measured thurst and torque with a 1.2m rotor are compared to the results of analytical prediction and showed that the thrust data at various rotational speed followed the prediction relatively well, but the torque data considered less accurate. It is also found that the background noise level of the test rig is sufficiently low, and the measured noise level from the rotor can be scaled with rotor tip speed. However, the Mach number dependancy and the directivity changes depend on the noise source characteristics.
This study presents a new principle for driving the robot aimed at reducing the position error for the boresonic examination of turbine rotor. The conventional method of inspection is performed by installing manipulator onto the flange of the turbine rotor and connecting a pipe, which is then being pushed into the bore. The longer the pipe gets, the greater sagging and distortion appear, making it difficult for the ultrasonic sensor to contact with the internal surface of the bore. A pneumatic pressure will ensure the front or rear feet of the robot in close contact with the inner wall to prevent slipping, while the ball screw on the body of the robot will rotate to drive it in the axial direction. The compression force required for tight contact was calculated in the form of a three-point support, and a static structural simulation analysis was performed by designing and modeling the robot mechanism. The driving performance and ultrasonic detection ability have been tested by fabricating the robot, the test piece for ultrasonic calibration and the transparent mock-up for robot demonstration. The tests have confirmed that no slipping occurs at a certain pneumatic pressure or over.
