Multi-camera systems have been widely used as cost-effective tools for the collection of geospatial data for various applications. In order to fully achieve the potential accuracy of these systems for object space reconstruction, careful system calibration should be carried out prior to data collection. Since the structural integrity of the involved cameras' components and system mounting parameters cannot be guaranteed over time, multi-camera system should be frequently calibrated to confirm the stability of the estimated parameters. Therefore, automated techniques are needed to facilitate and speed up the system calibration procedure. The automation of the multi-camera system calibration approach, which was proposed in the first part of this paper, is contingent on the automated detection, localization, and identification of the object space signalized targets in the images. In this paper, the automation of the proposed camera calibration procedure through automatic target extraction and labelling approaches will be presented. The introduced automated system calibration procedure is then implemented for a newly-developed multi-camera system while considering the optimum configuration for the data collection. Experimental results from the implemented system calibration procedure are finally presented to verify the feasibility the proposed automated procedure. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the estimated system calibration parameters from two-calibration sessions is also presented to confirm the stability of the cameras' interior orientation and system mounting parameters.
Most industrial robots cannot be off-line programmed to carry out a task accurately, unless their kinematic model is suitably corrected through a calibration procedure. However, normal calibration is an expensive and time-consumming precedure due to the highly accurate measurement equipment required and due to the significant amount of data that must be collected. This paper presents a simple and economic procedure to improve the efficiency of robot calibration especially for arc welding application. To simplify the measurement process, an automotic data measurement algorithm as well as a simple measurement device are developed. Also, a calibration algorithm which can automatically identify the independent model parameters to be estimated is presented. To demonstrated the simplicity and the effectiveness of the procedure, experimental studies and computer simulations are performed and their results are discussed.
Depth calibration is a procedure for finding the conversion function that maps disparity data from a depth-sensing camera to actual distance information. In this paper, we present an optimal depth calibration method for Kinect$^{TM}$ sensors based on an experimental design and convex optimization. The proposed method, which utilizes multiple measurements from only two points, suggests a simplified calibration procedure. The confidence ellipsoids obtained from a series of simulations confirm that a simpler procedure produces a more reliable calibration function.
Despite technological developments and application advances of Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), no standard procedure has been adopted or accepted for calibration of ADCPs. Limitations of existing facilities for calibrating ADCPs, the complexity of ADCP instruments, and rapid changes in ADCP technology are some of the reasons why a standard procedure has not been adopted. However, there is increasing realization of the need for effective Quality Assurance (QA) and as part of that the importance of standardized calibration. In this study, the significance of calibration and QA plans for ADCPs is discussed and the calibration facilities for ADCPs at home and abroad are reported. Furthermore, the method for calibrating ADCPs using a towed car and its limitations are discussed. This study contributes to discussions surrounding the establishment of standard procedures for calibrating ADCPs and QA plans, and the construction of calibration facilities in the future.
As the modernization of the nuclear instrumentation system progresses, research reactors have adopted digital wide-range neutron power measurement (DWRNPM) systems. These systems typically monitor the neutron flux across a range of over 10 decades. Because neutron detectors only measure the local neutron flux at their position, the local neutron flux must be converted to total reactor power through calibration, which involves mapping the local neutron flux level to a reference reactor power. Conventionally, the neutron power range is divided into smaller subranges because the neutron detector signal characteristics and the reference reactor power estimation methods are different for each subrange. Therefore, many factors should be considered when preparing the calibration procedure for DWRNPM channels. The main purpose of this work is to serve as a reference for performing the calibration of DWRNPM systems in research reactors. This work provides a comprehensive overview of the calibration of DWRNPM channels by describing the configuration of the DWRNPM system and by summarizing the theories of operation and the reference power estimation methods with their associated calibration procedure. The calibration procedure was actually performed during the commissioning of an open-pool type research reactor, and the results and experience are documented herein.
This paper presents a novel calibration method for a base station system adopting an antenna array. The proposed technique utilizes Zadoff-Chu sequence, which is included in the LTE pilot signal periodically, in order to compute the phase characteristic of each antenna channel. As the Zadoff-Chu sequence exhibits an excellent autocorrelation characteristic, it is possible for the receiving base station to retrieve the Zadoff-Chu sequence transmitted from each mobile terminal. In addition, we can obtain the phase characteristic of each antenna channel, which is the ultimate goal of the calibration procedure. The proposed calibration algorithm has been implemented using an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). We have applied the proposed algorithm to an array consisting of 2 antenna elements for simplicity. the phase value implied to the first and second antenna path is very accurately calculated from the proposed procedure. From the experimental test, the proposed method provides accurate calibration results.
Audiometric calibration is a prerequisite for securing the reliability of audiometric test results by checking the internal consistency of the relevant instrument. The purpose of this review is to help instrument operators understand the calibration procedure of aural acoustic immittance instrument which is frequently used for objective assessment. By referring to the latest international standards and the national standards relevant to the aural acoustic immittance instrument, the following parameters will be reviewed: 1) introduction of performance characteristics, 2) detailed procedure of the calibration method. According to the newest international and national standards [IEC 60645-5 (2004), ANSI S3.39-1987 (R2012)], the aural acoustic immittance instrument basically includes six components: 1) calibration cavity, 2) acoustic immittance analysis system, 3) probe assembly/unit and signal, 4) pneumatic air-pressure pump system, 5) acoustic reflex activator system and 6) tympanogram and acoustic reflex plotting system, each of these components should meet set standards. The result of behavioral hearing tests is influenced by various complex factors including the examinee's cooperation, background noise of the examination room, measurement method, skill level of the audiologist and calibration status, but the objective hearing tests is more influenced by the calibration status of the instrument than any other factors. The audiologist should take full responsibility for the reliability of the hearing test result, so he/she should carry out the calibration check and adjustments of aural acoustic immittance instrument periodically and maintain the instrument continuously by referring to the newest standards and the manufacturer's instruction manual.
The main purpose of the calibration procedure is to perform a one to one comparison of the reference pyranometer and the test pyranometer. In order to achieve this, both pyranometers need to be exposed to exactly the same irradiance, under the same circumstances. There are a number of error sources that could result in a wrong measurement. Most importantly Lamp instability, pyranometer offsets, thermal offsets of junctions, voltmeter offset, voltmeter instability, reference pyranometer instability, tilting of the pyranometers and differences in sensor height. Another sun-disc calibration procedure compares the computed vertical component of the direct irradiance as measured by a pyranometer with that measured by the pyranometer to be calibrated. Readings are taken with the levelled pyranometer on a clear day. Firstly the global irradiance and then the diffuse component are measured. Simultaneously measurement of direct irradiance is made with the pyrheliometer. The ways of performing the calibration and the subsequent calculation have been chosen such that the effect all these error sources has been eliminated as much as possible.
In this paper, we consider to the adjustment weighting procedure in the two phase sampling scheme. In general, the unit nonresponses may be occured in the final survey operation. When the unit nonresponse be generated in survey, it is able to use the auxiliary variable for estimating of interest variable. In this viewpoint, we use the two kinds level of auxiliary variable, $X_{1k}$ and $X_{2k}$ for the calibration procedure. We proprose the two-step Newton's method in the calibration estimation procedure for the two phase sampling.
A flat-jointed bonded-particle model (BPM) has been proved to be an effective tool for simulating mechanical behaviours of intact rocks. However, the tedious and time-consuming calibration procedure imposes restrictions on its widespread application. In this study, a systematic approach is proposed for simplifying the calibration procedure. The initial relationships between the microscopic, constitutive parameters and macro-mechanical rock properties are firstly determined through dimensionless analysis. Then, sensitivity analyses and regression analyses are conducted to quantify the relationships, using results from numerical simulations. Finally, four examples are used to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed systematic approach for the calibration procedure of BPMs.
