  • A treatment of outlier has been discussed. Outliers disrupt the reliability of information systems and they should be eliminated prior to the information and/or data fusion. A time series-based elimination algorithm were proposed and prediction interval, as a criterion of acceptable value width, was obtained with the model. Ten actual link values were used and the best model was identified as IMA(1,1). Although the actual verification was difficult in a sense that the matching process between the eliminated data and model data was not readily available, the proposed model can be successfully used in practice with some calibration efforts.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the risk factors for diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) to develop and evaluate the performance of a DFU prediction model and nomogram among people with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: This unmatched case-control study was conducted with 379 adult patients (118 patients with DM and 261 controls) from four general hospitals in South Korea. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire, foot examination, and review of patients' electronic health records. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to build the DFU prediction model and nomogram. Further, their performance was analyzed using the Lemeshow-Hosmer test, concordance statistic (C-statistic), and sensitivity/specificity analyses in training and test samples. Results: The prediction model was based on risk factors including previous foot ulcer or amputation, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy, current smoking, and chronic kidney disease. The calibration of the DFU nomogram was appropriate (χ2 = 5.85, p = .321). The C-statistic of the DFU nomogram was .95 (95% confidence interval .93~.97) for both the training and test samples. For clinical usefulness, the sensitivity and specificity obtained were 88.5% and 85.7%, respectively at 110 points in the training sample. The performance of the nomogram was better in male patients or those having DM for more than 10 years. Conclusion: The nomogram of the DFU prediction model shows good performance, and is thereby recommended for monitoring the risk of DFU and preventing the occurrence of DFU in people with DM.

  • The present study was conducted to develop a rapid and accurate method of evaluating chemical composition of total mixed ration (TMR) for dairy cows using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS). A total of 253 TMR samples were collected from TMR manufacturers and dairy farms in Korea. Prior to NIR analysis, TMR samples were dried at $65^{\circ}C$ for 48 hour and then ground to 2 mm size. The samples were scanned at 2 nm interval over the wavelength range of 400-2500 nm on a FOSS-NIR Systems Model 6500. The values obtained by NIR analysis and conventional chemical methods were compared. Generally, the relationship between chemical analysis and NIR analysis was linear: $R^2$ and standard error of calibration (SEC) were 0.701 (SEC 0.407), 0.965 (SEC 0.315), 0.796 (SEC 0.406), 0.889 (SEC 0.987), 0.894 (SEC 0.311), 0.933 (SEC 0.885) and 0.889 (SEC 1.490) for moisture, crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, crude ash, acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF), respectively. In addition, the standard error of prediction (SEP) value was 0.371, 0.290, 0.321, 0.380, 0.960, 0.859 and 1.446 for moisture, crude protein, ether extract, crude fiber, crude ash, ADF and NDF, respectively. The results of the present study showed that the NIR analysis for unknown TMR samples would be relatively accurate. Use of the developed NIR calibration curve can obtain fast and reliable data on chemical composition of TMR. Collection and analysis of more TMR samples will increase accuracy and precision of NIR analysis to TMR.

  • To design more efficient agricultural machinery, the accurately measuring system among many other factors is essential. A light-beam oscillographic recorder is generally used in measuring dynamic strain but it is not compatible with the extremely high speed measuring system such as 1,000 m/s, also is susceptable to damage due to vibration while using the system in field. The recorder used light sensitive paper for strip chart recording. The reading and analysis of data from the strip charts is very cumbersome, errorneous and time consuming. A microcomputer was interfaced with A/D converter, microcomputer program was developed for measuring, system calibration was done and the strain generated from a cantilever beam vibrator was measured. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Microcomputer program was developed to perform strain measuring of agricultural machine elements and could be controled freely the measuring intervals, no. of channels and no. of data. The maximum measuring speed was $62{\mu}s$. 2. Calibration the system was performed with triangle wave generated from a function generator and checked by an oscilloscope. The sampled data were processed using HP 3000 minicomputer of Chungnam National University computer center the graphical results were triangle same as input wave and so the system have been out of phase distorsion and amplitude distorsion. 3. The strain generated from a cantilever beam vibrator which has free vibration period of 0.019 second were measured by the system controlled to have l.0 ms of time interval and its computer output showing vibration curve which is well filted to theoretical value. 4. Using microcomputer on measuring the strain of agricultural machine elements could not only save analyzing time and recording papers but also get excellent adaptation to field experiment, especially in measurement requiring high speed and good precision.

  • Objectives: The aims of this study were to compare concentrations and the correspondence of human blood cadmium by using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), which are representative methods of heavy metal analysis. Methods: We randomly selected 79 people who agreed to participate in the research project. After confirming the linearity of the calibration curves for GF-AAS and ICP-MS, the concentrations of cadmium in a quality control standard material and blood samples were measured, and the correlation and the degree of agreement were compared. Results: The detection limit of ICP-MS (IDL: $0.000{\mu}g/L$, MDL: $0.06{\mu}g/L$) was lower than that of GF-AAS (IDL: $0.085{\mu}g/L$, MDL: $0.327{\mu}g/L$). The coefficient of variation of the quality control standard material showed stable values for both ICP-MS (clinchek-1: 5.35%, clinchek-2: 6.22%) and GF-AAS (clinchek-1: 7.92%, clinchek-2: 5.22%). Recovery was relatively high for both ICP-MS (clinchek-1: 95.1%, clinchek-2: 92.8%) and GF-AAS (clinchek-1: 91.4%, clinchek-2: 98.8%), with more than 90%. The geometric mean, median, and percentile of blood samples were all similar. The agreement of the two instruments compared with the bias of the analytical values found that about 81% of the analytical values were within ${\pm}30%$ of the deviation from the ideal reference line (y=0). As a result of the agreement limit, the value included in the confidence interval was about 94%, which shows high agreement. Conclusion: In this study, we confirmed there was no significant difference in concentrations of a quality control standard material and blood samples. Since ICP-MS showed lower concentrations than GF-AAS at concentrations below the method detection limit of GF-AAS, it is expected that more precise results will be obtained by analyzing blood cadmium with ICP-MS.

  • In this study, resistance spot welding was performed using a high tensile steel plate SGAFC 780. The shear tensile strength, fracture profile, nugget diameter, and simulation were compared according to the conditions. After the nugget diameter calibration, the minimum diameter of welding was more than 4.3mm when the welding current was 8kVA or more. At 9kVA and above 10kVA, the minimum nugget diameter of 4.3mm was satisfied. On the other hand, due to the high current and time, the fly phenomenon occurred and the deep indentation remained. An evaluation of the weldability confirmed that there was an interval that was evaluated as weld failure due to the creep phenomenon, which satisfied the tensile shear strength and minimum nugget diameter. On the other hand, areas that have sufficient load bearing capacity even when drift has occurred were also identified. The simulation results show that the error rate was less than 4.2% when comparing the nugget diameter in the simulation and the experimental results in the appropriate weld zone, and confirmed the reliability of the simulation.

  • Mapping of salinity distribution in the reclaimed lands was attempted by using the electromagnetic inductance technique. Field study was conducted to monitor ground conductivity with an electromagnetic inductance, EM 38 (Geonics), and electrical conductivity of the saturated extract, ECe of the soils, at the Daeho reclaimed land. EM values of horizontal mode, EMh, and vertical mode, EMv, mode were recorded at the interval of $2m{\times}2m$ from the ground. Soil samples were taken through the profile down to 100cm for calibration. ECe of poor drained area of Daeho, were in the range of $19.50-91.50ds\;m^{-1}$, while ECe of well-drained area ranged from $1.10-34.40ds\;m^{-1}$. Multiple regression equations for the measured EMv, EMh, and ECe were highly significant. The EMh showed higher correlation with ECe than EMv. With the multiple equation, ECgM could be calculated. Correlation between ECe and ECgM was the highest ($r=0.753^{***}$), when EMI readings were taken on the ground. The relationships were highly significant below 30 cm height of measurement, With the EM38 measurement, the salinity distribution was effectively expressed for the experimental filed in Daeho reclaimed land.

  • A Frequency synthesizer for mobile-DTV applications is implemented using $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process with 1.8V supply. PMOS transistors are chosen for VCO core to reduce phase noise. The measurement result of VCO frequency range is 800MHz-1.67GHz using switchable inductors, capacitors and varactors. We use varactor bias technique for the improvement of VCO gain linearity, and the number of varactor biasing are minimized as two. VCO gain deterioration is also improved by using the varactor switching technique. The VCO gain and interval of VCO gain are maintained as low and improved using the VCO frequency calibration block. The sigma-delta modulator for fractional divider is designed by the co-simualtion method for accuracy and efficiency improvement. The VCO, PFD, CP and LF are verified by Cadence Spectre, and the sigma-delta modulator is simulated using Matlab Simulink, ModelSim and HSPICE. The power consumption of the frequency synthesizer is 18mW, and the VCO has 52.1% tuning range according to the VCO maximum output frequency. The VCO phase noise is lower than -100dBc/Hz at 1MHz at 1MHz offset for 1GHz, 1.5GHz, and 2GHz output frequencies.

  • This study was performed to prepare the verification film for localizing beam-target position with the Photon Knife radiosurgery system (PKRS) using linear accelerator(Mitsubishi, Model ML-15MDX). We developed a laser calibration system using a reticle of transparent lucite to detect Inlet and outlet beams. We verified fixation of the second collimator with film mounted on a holder in the shape of an octagon block 5cm apart from the isocenter. The film was exposed to photon beams of linear accelerator at an interval of 45 degrees during the gantry movement. There were no shifts in the beam of the second collimator during gantry movement. We used a position marker which is designed a head-shaped small lead block and a 10 mm in diameter of steel bead in the plastic tube. The position marker helped to verify the beam directions with patient position in multi-arc and trans-multi-arc of PKRS The verification of beam alignments showed an average 0.8$\pm$0.26 mm discrepancy in LINAC-gram images of PKRS. In our study, the couch movement was $\pm$5 mm laterally, while it shook $\pm$ 2 mm toward the couch axis. The couch, however, was immediately returned to the initial site after shaking. Thus, we postulate that the beam-target position(s) should be verified with LINAC-gram in a stereotactic radiosurgery system to achieve the accuracy of beam-target alignment.

  • Recently, digital image correlation (DIC) techniques have been used to measure dynamic deformation during tensile testing. The standard tensile test method measures the average displacement of the relevant specimen to calculate the true stress-strain curve. Therefore, the validity of the true stress curve is restricted to the stress incurred within the uniform stretching interval, i.e., the maximum stress corresponds to the starting point of the necking deformation. Alternatively, if DIC is used, the effective range of the strain and strain rate can be extended to the breaking point of the tensile specimen, because of the feasibility of measuring the local strain over the entire area of interest. Because of these advantages, many optical 3D measurement systems have been introduced and used in research and industry. However, the conventional 3D measurement systems are exceedingly expensive and time consuming. In addition, these systems have the disadvantage of a very large equipment size which makes their transport difficult. In this study, a 2D image correction method employing a 2D DIC measurement method in conjunction with a numerical analysis method is developed using a smartphone. The results of the proposed modified 2D DIC method yielded higher accuracy than that obtained via the 3D measurement equipment. In conclusion, it was demonstrated that the proposed 2D DIC and calibration methods yield accurate measurement results with low time costs.
