Comparison of AT1- and Kalman Filter-Based Ensemble Time Scale Algorithms

  • We compared two typical ensemble time scale algorithms; AT1 and Kalman filter. Four commercial atomic clocks composed of two hydrogen masers and two cesium atomic clocks provided measurement data to the algorithms. The allocation of relative weights to the clocks is important to generate a stable ensemble time. A 30 day-average-weight model, which was obtained from the average Allan variance of each clock, was applied to the AT1 algorithm. For the reduced Kalman filter (Kred) algorithm, we gave the same weights to the two hydrogen masers. We also compared the frequency stabilities of the outcome from the algorithms when the frequency offsets and/or the frequency drift offsets estimated by the algorithms were corrected or not corrected by the KRISS-made primary frequency standard, KRISS-F1. We found that the Kred algorithm is more effective to generate a stable ensemble time scale in the long-term, and the algorithm also generates much enhanced short-term stability when the frequency offset is used for the calculation of the Allan deviation instead of the phase offset.

  • In this paper, we proposed the algorithm computes the waste volume periodically for the way of waste repository standard. For the construction of safe and clear urban environment, it is necessary that we identify the rubbish waste volume and we know the accuracy volume. After camera calibration, we obtained the point cloud on the surface of the object and took this as the input of the calculation algorithm of the object volume. We proposed the two volume calculation algorithms based on the triangularmeshing methods and verified the validity of the algorithm through simulation and real experiments. The proposed algorithm can be used not only as the volume calculation of the waste repository but also as the general volume calculation of a three dimensional object.

  • The mass attenuation coefficient is the primary physical parameter to model narrow beam gamma-ray attenuation. A new machine learning based approach is proposed to model gamma-ray shielding behavior of composites alternative to theoretical calculations. Two fuzzy logic algorithms and a neural network algorithm were trained and tested with different mixture ratios of vanadium slag/epoxy resin/antimony in the 0.05 MeV-2 MeV energy range. Two of the algorithms showed excellent agreement with testing data after optimizing adjustable parameters, with root mean squared error (RMSE) values down to 0.0001. Those results are remarkable because mass attenuation coefficients are often presented with four significant figures. Different training data sizes were tried to determine the least number of data points required to train sufficient models. Data set size more than 1000 is seen to be required to model in above 0.05 MeV energy. Below this energy, more data points with finer energy resolution might be required. Neuro-fuzzy models were three times faster to train than neural network models, while neural network models depicted low RMSE. Fuzzy logic algorithms are overlooked in complex function approximation, yet grid partitioned fuzzy algorithms showed excellent calculation efficiency and good convergence in predicting mass attenuation coefficient.

  • In view of the low accuracy of the traditional FunkSVD algorithm, and in order to improve the computational efficiency of the algorithm, this paper proposes a parallel algorithm of improved FunkSVD based on Spark (SP-FD). Using RMSProp algorithm to improve the traditional FunkSVD algorithm. The improved FunkSVD algorithm can not only solve the problem of decreased accuracy caused by iterative oscillations but also alleviate the impact of data sparseness on the accuracy of the algorithm, thereby achieving the effect of improving the accuracy of the algorithm. And using the Spark big data computing framework to realize the parallelization of the improved algorithm, to use RDD for iterative calculation, and to store calculation data in the iterative process in distributed memory to speed up the iteration. The Cartesian product operation in the improved FunkSVD algorithm is divided into blocks to realize parallel calculation, thereby improving the calculation speed of the algorithm. Experiments on three standard data sets in terms of accuracy, execution time, and speedup show that the SP-FD algorithm not only improves the recommendation accuracy, shortens the calculation interval compared to the traditional FunkSVD and several other algorithms but also shows good parallel performance in a cluster environment with multiple nodes. The analysis of experimental results shows that the SP-FD algorithm improves the accuracy and parallel computing capability of the algorithm, which is better than the traditional FunkSVD algorithm.

  • This paper presents stable kinematic modeling and path planning and path tracking algorithms for the poisition control of 4-wheeled 2-d.o.f(degree of freedom) mobile robot. We drived the actuated inverse and sensed forward solution for the calculation of actuator velocity and robot velocities. the deal-reckoning algorithm is introduced to calculate the position of WMR in real time. The gaussian functions are applied to control and to design the smooth orientation angle of WMR and the path planning algorithm for obstacle avoidance is prosed. We composed feedback control system to compensate for error because of uncertainty kinematic modeling and measurement noise. The simulation resutls show that the proposed kinematkc modeling and path planning and feedback control algorithms are useful.

  • This paper presents the VHSIC Hardware Description Language(VHDL) implementation of the Fixed Point Covariance Lattice(FLAT) algorithm for an Linear Predictive Coding(LPC) analysis and its related algorithms, such as the forth order high pass Infinite Impulse Response(IIR) filter, covariance matrix calculation, and Spectral Smoothing Technique(SST) in the Vector Sum Exited Linear Predictive(VSELP) speech coder that has been Selected as the standard speech coder for the North America and Japanese digital cellular. Existing Digital Signal Processor(DSP) chips used in digital cellular phones are derived from general purpose DSP chips, and thus, these DSP chips may not be optimal and effective architectures are to be designed for the above mentioned algorithms. Then we implemented the VHDL code based on the C code, Finally, we verified that VHDL results are the same as C code results for real speech data. The implemented VHDL code can be used for performing logic synthesis and for designing an LPC Application Specific Integrated Circuit(ASOC) chip and DsP chips. We first developed the C language code to investigate the correctness of algorithms and to compare C code results with VHDL code results block by block.

Automation model for drift design of high-rise buildings (고층건물 변위설계 자동화 모델)

  • In this paper, an automation model for drift design of high-rise buildings using resizing algorithms is proposed. Drift, in the model, includes the maximum lateral displacement at the top and inter-story drifts of a high-rise building subjected to both wind and seismic load. Resizing algorithms for high-rise buildings in various systems and material developed in previous researches are used as a drift control module. As an input to drift control algorithms, member forces for calculation of member displacement participation factors are obtained from commonly-used commercial softwares. The automation model is composed of 4 modules: initial modeling, drift control, stress check, and final verification modules. Each module in the model is described in detail in this paper.

  • In order to evaluate the performance of three heuristic optimization algorithms, namely, simulated annealing (SA), genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) for optimal stacking sequence of laminated composite plates with respect to critical buckling load and non-dimensional natural frequencies, a multi-objective optimization procedure is developed using the weighted summation method. Classical lamination theory and first order shear deformation theory are employed for critical buckling load and natural frequency computations respectively. The analytical critical buckling load and finite element calculation schemes for natural frequencies are validated through the results obtained from literature. The comparative study takes into consideration solution and computational time parameters of the three algorithms in the statistical evaluation scheme. The results indicate that particle swarm optimization (PSO) considerably outperforms the remaining two methods for the special problem considered in the study.

  • Genetic algorithms are so named because they are analogous to biological processes. The model parameters are coded in binary form. The algorithm then starts with a randomly chosen population of models called chromosomes. The second step is to evaluate the fitness values of these models, measured by a correlation between data and synthetic for a particular model. Then, the three genetic processes of selection, crossover, and mutation are performed upon the model in sequence. Genetic algorithms share the favorable characteristics of random Monte Carlo over local optimization methods in that they do not require linearizing assumptions nor the calculation of partial derivatives, are independent of the misfit criterion, and avoid numerical instabilities associated with matrix inversion. An additional advantage over converntional methods such as iterative least squares is that the sampling is global, rather than local, thereby reducing the tendency to become entrapped in local minima and avoiding the dependency on an assumed starting model.

  • For the estimation of chatter lobe boundary it is very important to calculate the natural mode of cutting process. There are many time series algorithms for getting the natural mode of structural endmilling dynamics considering the cutting process. In this study, we have compared several time series methods such as AR algorithm, ARX, ARMAX, ARMA, Box Jenkins, Output Error, Recursive ARX, Recursive ARMAX considering the sampling frequency. As a results, the ARX, ARMAX and IV 4 are more desirable algorithms for the calculation of modal parameters such as natural frequency and damping ratio In endmilling operation. Also these algorithms may be adopted for the natural mode estimation of endmilling operation for chatter lobe prediction.
