The firing reaction and calcination characteristics of the waste shellfish were examined for the future use as absorbent. The weight variation was measured according to thermal-decomposition using TGA and observed variation of the phase. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the sample were performed using XRD and the structural analysis, SEM. The results of TGA and XRD experiments showed that the almost all of the raw Corbicula Japonica and Ostrea virginjca were changed from calcite to lime by firing and calcination reaction. The result of SEM experiment showed that the plate type of the raw sample was changed to circle type, so the surface area ratio was increased. Above results suggested that waste shellfish were usable as absorbent in the viewpoint of the reuse of resource and the decrease of environmental pollution.
This study was investigated to the reaction of alumina sintering with alkaline. The soluble $NaAlO_2$ was made after the commercial ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was calcinated with NaOH. The reaction of alumina was carried out to be based on the effects of calcination temperature, time, and the mixing ratio of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3/NaOH$. The alumina was calcined over $500^{\circ}C$ with NaOH powder after it was sieved with 170/270 mesh. The calcined alumina with NaOH powder was dissolved into $25^{\circ}C$ distilled water and filtrated, and HCI was added to adapt pH 6.5~7.5. The residue was separated with vacuum pump for filtration after it was adapted to proper pH, and aluminum compound was precipitated with $Al(OH)_3$. The investigation was carried out with the variables; the calcination temperature($500-900^{\circ}C$), the calcination time (30~90 min), and the concentration of HCI when leaching(0.5~3.0N) respectively. In this investigation, the main product of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ and NaOH was $NaAlO_2$ and the maximum conversion ratio was 91.4% under the optimum conditions as followed ; the ratio of NaOH/${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was 1.5 and the calcination conditions were $800^{\circ}C$ and 90 min.

In order to investigate the behavior of limestones which have been usually used for in-situ desulfurization reaction in circulating fluidized bed combustors, the attrition characteristics and calcination reactions of domestic limestones were analyzed in this study by using a thermogravimetric analyzer and an ASTM D5757-95 attrition tester. The average size distribution of limestones in circulating fluidized bed boilers have to be changed due to the attrition of particle-particle and particle-reactor wall and the calcination reaction. Domestic limestones might be used in commercial circulating fluidized bed boilers, but the attrition behaviors and particle size changes of limestones were varied. In calcination experiments at $850^{\circ}C$, the calcination reaction were varied with limestone samples. The calcination reaction time increased with an increase of particle size. Also, fine particles generated the attrition test of calcined limestone was 20% higher than those generated the attrition test of original limestone.

It is necessary to find out the reaction characteristics of $CaCO_3$ sorbent particles in air and $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric conditions in order that an in-furnace desulfurization technique can be applied to oxy-fuel combustion system. In this study, rate of change of GMD(geometric mean diameter) and specific surface area of $CaCO_3$ sorbent particles reacted in DTF(drop tube furnace) experimental setup were analyzed to investigate the effect of particle size and humidity on the reaction characteristics of them. In air atmospheric condition, calcination process occurs actively within shorter residence times as the particle size increases. On the contrary, in $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric condition, a calcination process is delayed as particle size increases. The increment of humidity accelerates calcination process in an air atmospheric condition and increase rate of calcination in an $O_2/CO_2$ atmospheric condition.
Calcination, which represents thermal decomposition of $CaCO_3$, is the key reaction in a cement process. Some reactions including heating-up also take place simultaneously in the calcination reactors. Basic thermal performance and dimensions of the reactors in two cases, which are a rotary kiln wih a four-stage cyclone pre-heater and a simple single rotary kiln, were compared. To employ the heat transfer, mass transfer and reaction rate as well as calcination, one-dimensional modeling was conducted in each case. Some simplification about the reactors was described, however, the reliable Nusselt number and heat transfer coefficients on the reactors were used to make results reliable.

A series of Mn compound were prepared by seed-assisted method. The seed used in this reaction was manufactured by calcination of $MnCO_3$ at various temperatures and effects of the calcination temperature on seed-assisted reaction were investigated. With increase of the calcination temperature, CMD (${\gamma}-MnO_2$) was recovered after seed-assisted reactions. LMO used as cathode active material in the Li-ion batteries were synthesized from Mn source obtained in the seed-assisted reaction and the electrochemical properties (rate capability, cycle life performance and specific capacity) of the LMO were investigated. The LMO synthesized from the CMD which is obtained by the reaction with seed prepared by calcination of $MnCO_3$ more than $350^{\circ}C$ shown good electrochemical properties.

DeNOx catalysts composed of Mn, Cu and $TiO_2$ were prepared and tested for $NH_3$-SCR. The performance of each catalyst was studied for the NOx removal efficiency while changing the calcination temperature, reaction time, and oxygen concentration. The hydrogen conversion efficiency of a calcined catalyst was measured at the $H_2$-TPR system. The change in the specific surface area of catalyst according to the calcination temperature was analyzed. As a result, the proper calcination temperature was approximately $300^{\circ}C$. If the calcination temperature is increased to $500^{\circ}C$, the NOx removal efficiency of Mn and Cu constituents is largely decreased at the low temperature range. Oxygen in flue gas is an important parameter in the SCR reaction and optimal oxygen concentration is approximately 8 vol.%.

Alkylation of phenol with tert-butanol in the liquid phase on mordenite was studied. The influence of many reaction parameters such as calcination temperature, reaction temperature, t-butanol/phenol molar ratio on catalytic properties was discussed. The main products were 2,4-di-t-butylphenol, o-t-butylphenol, p-t-butylphenol, the last of these was wanted product. In order to enhance the selectivity of p-t-butylphenol, optimum conditions were recommended at $500^{\circ}C$ calcination temperature, $140^{\circ}C$ reaction temperature, 1.0 molar ratio of reactants over mordenite. P-t-butylphenol was formed with 90% isomer selectivity at optimum conditions after 4hr reaction. On the basis of the behavior obtained in the cases mentioned, optimum conditions and catalytic properties for t-butylation of phenol were provided.
The effects of reaction temperature, SO2 and CO2 concentration in an air gas stream, particle sizes of limestone on the reactivity and capacity of SO2 removal have been determined in a thermogravimetric analyser(TGA). The apparent reaction order of sulfation reaction of pre-calcined lime(CaO) with respect to SO2 is found to be close to unity. The apparent activation energies are found to be 17,000 kcal/kmol for sulfation of pre-calcined lime and 19,500 kcal/kmol for direct sulfation of limestone(CaCO3). The initial sulfation reaction rate of pre-calcined lime increases with increasing temperature, whereas the sulfur capture capacity exhibits a maximum value at 90$0^{\circ}C$. In direct sulfation of limestone, sulfation reactivity and sulfur capature capacity of sorbent increase with increasing temperature and decreasing CO2 concentration in a gas bulk stream. The main pare of pre-calcined lime is shifted to the larger pore sizes and pore volume decreases with increasing sulfation time and temperature. The surface area of lime decreases with increasing calcination temperature under an air atmosphere, whereas is yearly constant under a CO2(5, 10%) atmosphere in a gas stream.
