오세아니아지역 생태관광자원의 글로벌 교육자료 활용방안 (The Global Educational Applications of the Ecotour Resources in Oceania)

  • 본 연구는 생태관광, 글로벌 교육의 개념을 토대로 다소 연구 성과가 미흡한 오세아니아지역에 대하여 생태관광자원의 지리적 특징을 파악하고 호주 Cairns 지역을 사례로 현지답사를 한 후, 생태자원의 교육적 활용에 대해 고찰하였다. 답사지역은 Great Barrier Reef의 Green 섬, Queensland주 열대우림의 Barron Gorge 국립공원 삼림탐방프로그램, Eairns 근교 호주나비보호구역, Tjabutkai 원주민 문화공원을 선정하여 현지답사를 수행하였다. 사례연구를 통해 의미있는 글로벌 교육적 활용방안을 살펴보면 Green섬에서는 특수 제작된 수중관측소와 바닥이 유리로 된 배 등을 도입하여 해양생태를 효과적으로 보존하면서 탐사하도록 했고, 잘 디자인된 탐방로와 탐방시간 안내판 그리고 친절하게 생태교육을 담당하는 공원관리원이 주재하는 삼림탐방프로그램이 마련되었으며, 옛 산업열차를 보완하여 관광용열차로 재활용한 것은 환경보호를 위한 좋은 본보기였다. 나비보호구역에서는 여러 언어를 지원하는 안내체계를 갖추고 전문가와 함께하는 해설프로그램을 마련하였으며, 전 세계의 방문객들에게 원주민의 생활을 체험할 수 있도록 프로그램을 고안하여 자신의 문화를 널리 알리고, 방문객에게도 교육적인 효과를 충족시킬 수 있도록 하였다.

A study of continuous stem girder systems

  • A new beam system comprising two cantilever stems and an interspan composite beam has been developed and its design philosophy is described in this paper. The system provides the equivalent of a semi-continuous beam without the requirement to calculate the moment rotation capacity of the beam-to-column connection. The economy of braced frames using the system has been investigated and compared with simple, continuous or semi-rigid systems. It is shown that the costs of the proposed system are similar to the semi-rigid system and cheaper than both the simply supported and rigid beam systems. Two tests have been carried out on 6 meter span beams, which also incorporated an asymmetric flange steel section. The behaviour of the system is presented and the test results are compared with those obtained from the theory.

Sustainability of pensions in Asian countries

  • Mortality risk is a significant threat to individual life, and quantifying the risk is necessary for making a national population plan and is a traditionally fundamental task in the insurance and annuity businesses. Like other advanced countries, the sustainability of life pensions and the management of longevity risks are becoming important in Asian countries entering the era of aging society. In this study, mortality and pension value sustainability trends are compared and analyzed based on national population and mortality data, focusing on four Asian countries from 1990 to 2017. The result of analyzing the robustness and accuracy of generalized linear/nonlinear models reveals that the Cairns-Blake-Dowd model, the nonparametric Renshaw-Haberman model, and the Plat model show low stability. The Currie, CBD M5, M7, and M8 models have high stability against data periods. The M7 and M8 models demonstrate high accuracy. The longevity risk is found to be high in the order of Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan, which is in general inversely related to the population size.

  • 본 논문에서는 응집영역 모델링 기법을 사용하여 노치가 있는 적층복합재료의 파괴거동을 연구하였다. 먼저 노치가 있는 적층복합재료 시편형상에 대해 일반 3차원 고체요소로 모델링 한 후 요소들 사이에 섬유파괴, 기지파괴 및 층간분리 파괴를 담당하는 응집요소를 삽입하여 유한요소 메쉬를 제작하였다. 다음으로 일축인장 시험을 모사하는 하중 및 경계조건을 가하여 점진적 파괴해석을 수행하고 해석결과를 참고문헌의 실험결과와 비교하여 해석의 타당성을 검증하였다. 수치해석 결과로부터 노치가 있는 적층복합재료 인장시편의 파괴시작 및 진전거동을 분석하였으며 파괴모드의 진전을 체계적으로 조사하였다.

Combination of isoproterenol and length oscillations in relaxing porcine airway smooth muscles

  • Treatments for asthma are largely pharmaceutical, with some therapies also utilising alternative breathing techniques. The objective of both medical and alternative methods is to relax contracted airway smooth muscle (ASM). In normal subjects, tidal breathing- and deep inspiration-oscillations are believed to have a bronchodilatory effect. Similarly, application of length oscillations to isolated, contracted ASM also elicits muscle relaxation. As a means of investigating more-effective alternative treatment methods for contracted airways, we analyse the combined effects of bronchodilators and length oscillations on isolated, contracted ASM. The contractile state of the muscle tissue prior to treatment is of primary interest. Thereafter, the effect of applying a combination of small superimposed length oscillations with tidal breathing-like oscillations to ASM is studied alone and in combination with a common bronchodilator, isoproterenol (ISO). This work suggests that relaxation of isolated, contracted ASM following application of combined oscillations and ISO is larger than treatments of either combined oscillations or ISO alone. Further, the observed oscillation-associated relaxation is found to be amplitude- rather than frequency-dependent. This study gives additional insight into the role of oscillations and bronchodilators on contracted airways.

Numerical Simulation of High Velocity Impact of Circular Composite Laminates

  • In this study, the high-velocity impact penetration behavior of $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$ carbon/epoxy composite laminates was studied. The considered configuration includes a spherical steel ball impacting clamped circular laminates with various thicknesses and diameters. First, the impact experiment was performed to measure residual velocity and extent of damage. Next, the impact experiment was numerically simulated through finite element analysis using LS-dyna. Three-dimensional solid elements were used to model each ply of the laminates discretely, and progressive material failure was modeled using MAT162. The result indicated that the finite element simulation yielded residual velocities and damage modes well-matched with those obtained from the experiment. It was found that fiber damage was localized near the impactor penetration path, while matrix and delamination damage were much more spread out with the damage mode showing a dependency on the orientation angles and ply locations. The ballistic-limit velocities obtained by fitting the residual velocities increased almost linearly versus the laminate diameter, but the amount of increase was small, showing that the impact energy was absorbed mostly by the localized impact damage and that the influence of the laminate size was not significant at high-velocity impact.

Four New Records of Two Genera Balanophyllia and Cladopsammia (Anthozoa: Hexacorallia: Scleractinia: Dendrophylliidae) from Korea

  • The four species of the family Dendrophylliidae are newly recorded in Korea: Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) cumingii Milne Edwards and Haime, 1848, Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) vanderhorsti Cairns, 2001, Cladopsammia eguchii (Wells, 1982), and Cladopsammia gracilis (Milne Edwards and Haime, 1848). The two genera of Balanophyllia and Cladopsammia, to which the four species belong, are newly recorded in Korea. They were collected from the subtidal zones in Jeju-do Island, Korea by SCUBA diving from 1987 to 2012. This study aims to identify the four dendrophyllid species based on external and internal morphological characters including growth form, size, budding, and color of colonies, shape and size of corallites, columella, theca, and septa. Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) cumingii is distinguished by its solitary growth form, small and low subturbinate corallite with enlarged calice, and expanded basal part, exsert first and second septa, and Pourtal$\acute{e}$s plan. Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) vanderhorsti is characterized by its quasi-colonial growth form, subturbinate corallites with compressed calice, thick theca, and Pourtal$\acute{e}$s plan. Cladopsammia eguchii is characterized by its phaceloid growth form of compressed corallites basally united with common coenosteum, flat spongy columella, thick theca, and Pourtal$\acute{e}$s plan. Cladopsammia gracilis is distinguished by its phaceloid growth form of corallites basally united with common coenosteum, and pronounced Pourtal$\acute{e}$s plan forming flower patterns.

평균회귀확률과정을 이용한 2요인 사망률 모형 (A Two Factor Model with Mean Reverting Process for Stochastic Mortality)

  • 본 논문은 2요인(two-factor) 사망률 모형에 평균회귀모형(mean reverting process)을 적용하여 2요인의 확률적 변동을 모형화하여 사망률리스크(mortality risk)와 장수리스크(longevity risk)를 분석하였다. 최근 고령사회로 진입한 국가들에서 사망률 개선의 둔화가 관측되고 있는 시점에서 기존의 선형증가 또는 감소의 사망률 개선 모형을 보완함에 그 목적을 두었다. 영국의 1991~2015년 사망률 자료를 이용하여 제시한 모형의 모수를 메트로폴리스 알고리듬을 이용해 추정하였고 추정된 모수 값을 이용하여 다수 시뮬레이션을 통하여 장기간의 미래 사망률 예측값을 계산하였다. 평균회귀 모형의 특성으로 인해 약 60년의 시간이 지난 뒤부터는 사망률 개선이 거의 사라져 사망률이 일정한 값에 근접하였다. 사망률 개선이 둔화되는 현상이 관측되는 특정 집단(국가, 사회)의 경우 2요인 평균회귀 모형은 장기간 사망률 예측방법의 대안으로 간주될 것으로 기대되며, 모형의 응용으로서 평균회귀율의 추정결과로부터 사망률 개선의 속도를 계량화하는 기준을 제시하였다. 끝으로, 2014년~2040 기간의 사망률 예측값을 이용하여 25년 만기 장수채권의 발행가격을 산출하였다.
