This paper proposed an Spread Spectrum Time Domain Reflectometry (SSTDR) using time-frequency correlation analysis in order to have more accurate fault determination and location detection than classical SSTDR despite increased signal attenuation due to the long distance to cable fault location. The proposed method was validated through comparison with classical SSTDR methods in open- and short-circuit fault detection experiments of low-voltage power cables. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can detect correlation coefficients at fault locations accurately despite reflected signal attenuation so that cable faults can be detected more accurately and clearly in comparison to existing methods.
This paper describes a fault location technique using wavelets in underground transmission cable system Estimation of fault location is performed using data sampled at two ends of underground system. In the case of 50% fault of total underground transmission line, fault location is calculated using sampled single-end data in underground transmission line. Traveling wave is utilized in capturing the travel time of the transients along the monitored lines between the relay and the fault point. This travel time information is provided by the wavelet. Simulation was performed using EMTP. ATP Draw and MATLAB. The results of fault location shown in this paper will be evaluated as an effective suggestion for fault to location in real underground transmission line.
To reduce the effect of fault on underground power cable, we need exact and fast fault location detection technique. In this thesis, we describe on filter design technique that can be applied to on-line fault defection technique. To design fitter for fault location defection on Power cable, we should analysis fault signal. So we designed test bed for fault generation and measured fault signals for analysis. Through the analysis of signals, we found that ANC filter can be applied to separate fault signals and we designed a ANC filter. We tested on the designed filter through computer simulation, and we describe its results in this paper.
This paper presents a method to find the fault location on the DC cables for the HVDC transmission systems which utilizes a hybrid topology of the diode rectifier and the voltage-source converter (VSC) in the wind farm (WF) side. First, the DC-cable fault occurring in this HVDC system is analyzed in detail. Then, the DC-cable fault location is detected from the two relative voltages located on the same section of the cable, which are estimated from a pair of DC-cable voltage and current measurements. The effectiveness of the method is verified by the simulation results.
In this paper, a novel algorithm of underground cable fault location based on the analysis of distributed parameter circuit is proposed. The proposed method makes voltage and current equations about core and sheath, and then establishes a function of the fault distance according to the analysis of fault conditions. Finally gets the solution of this function through Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm has been verified by Matlab program, and the cable parameters such as impedance and admittance are from EMTP simulation.

In this paper, we propose an image processing based time-frequency domain reflectometry(TFDR) in order to estimate the fault location of a cable. The Wigner-Ville distribution is used for analysis in both the time domain and the frequency domain when the conventional TFDR estimates the fault location in a cable. However, the Winger-Ville distribution is a bi-linear function, and hence the cross-term is occurred. The conventional TFDR cannot estimate the accurate fault location due to the cross-term in case the fault location is close to the position where the reference signal is applied to the cable. The proposed method can reduce the cross-term effectively using binarization and morphological image processing, and can estimate the fault location more accurately using the template matching based cross correlation compared to the conventional TFDR. To prove the performance of the proposed method, the actual experiments are carried out in some cases.

This paper describes a fault location algorithm in real combined transmission systems with underground power cable. The algorithm to calculate the fault location was developed using DWT wavelet transform and travelling wave occurred at fault point. And the proposed algorithm is also used the transient signal of one end in stead of the signal information of two ends. On the other hand, in this papers, the method to discriminate fault point between overhead line and cable section is also Proposed. Variety simulations were carried out to verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm using EMTP/ATFDraw and Matlab. Simulation results show that the proposed method has the excellent ability for discrimination of fault section and fault location in combined transmission systems with power cables.
For a safe operation of HVDC systems, the fault location and clearance of faults in the HVDC lines are important. Past methods for fault location on HVDC cable depend on existence of assistance cables and fault resistance, broken cable and environment of fault location. For complement these problems, in this paper, fault location method using traveling wave and cross correlation function is proposed for HVDC cables. Voltage controlled source and current controlled source HVDC were modeled by EMTDC/PSCAD. The proposed algorithm were verified varying with fault distance, fault resistance.
The study of applying wavelet transform in power cable system fault location has been recognized by many researchers and investigated. For performance of fault location, the fault generated transients can be captured at one end of the cable or both ends. Between two approaches, single-ended approach is less expensive and more reliable as it doesn't need communication link between the ends of the cable. So, we performs the approach based on the one. In this paper, we are going to introduce a new algorithm to discriminate the transient and the reflected signal using wavelet coefficient. For wavelet transform, the stationary wavelet transform(SWT) is applied instead of conventional DWT because SWT has redundancy properties which is more useful in noisy signal processing.

This paper describes the estimation method of cable fault location in rocket motors using M-sequence (Maximal Length Sequence). In order to estimate the location of a cable fault, three methods have been usually used: TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry), FDR (Frequency Domain Reflectometry), and TFDR (Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry). However, these methods suffer the disadvantage of requiring users to be close to a test field, which is dangerous. The estimation method of cable fault location using M-sequence is proposed to solve this problem. The proposed method can make use of DAS (Data Acquisition System). The experiments were three cases: damaged, open, and short. The RG-58 coaxial cable was used in the experiments. As a result, the proposed method has better performance than that of conventional methods such as TDR and TFDR.
