Analysis of the relationship between composition and viscosity of soda-lime glass bottles (소다석회유리병의 조성과 점도의 상관관계 분석)

  • Forty Viscosity data of glass bottles fabricated in a glass bottle manufacturing plant for 4 years were calculated using Lakatos model. The relationship between the glass bottle compositions and viscosities at log η of 3, 6.6, 10 and 12.3 Pa·s was analyzed. MgO that was a component of the glass bottle showed the maximum coefficient of variation of 0.89, but it gave a very small change in the viscosity. CaO that was another component of the glass bottle lowered the isokom temperature because it tended to reduce the number of non-bridging oxygen at temperature below a softening point.

Comparison of Characteristics on Electrolyzed Water Manufactured by Various Electrolytic Factors (전해인자에 따른 전기분해수의 특성 비교)

  • Efficacy of surface sterilization and physicochemical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured depending on electrolyte, materials, and type of electrolytic diaphragm used were investigated. Physical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from diaphragm system showed the highest effectiveness under at distance between diaphragms of 1.0 mm and 20% NaCl supplying rate of 6 mL/min. ORP, HClO (should defined) content, and pH at above conditions were 1,170 mV, 100 ppm, and 2.5, respectively. Two-stage electrolyzed system was more effective than one-stage one. Electrolyzed water manufactured from non-diaphragm system at 4 mL/min supplying rate of 20% NaCl was similar to the most effective diaphragm system, whereas ORP, HClO content, and pH were 800 mV, 200 ppm, and 9, respectively. Sealed electrolyzed water could be preserved more than one month at room temperature with ORPs of 750 and 1,150 mV in non-diaphragm and diaphragm systems, respectively, and at HClO content of 100 ppm. Physicochemical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from electrolytic diaphragm of $IrO_{2}$ and Pt+Ir were more effective than that of Pt. ORP and HClO contents of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolytes were high in order of NaCl>KCl>$CaCl_{2}$, whereas no differences were observed among electrolytes in sterilization efficacy. Twelve kinds of microorganisms tested (initial total count, $10^{5}-10^{6}CFU/mL$) were sterilized within 1-2 min by electrolyzed water.

  • Black dross is a dark gray dross generated during the aluminum recycling process that uses flux, and contains NaCl, KCl, Al2O3, MgO, etc. Black dross is separated into soluble substances (NaCl, KCl) and insoluble substances (Al2O4, MgO) through the dissolution process. Soluble materials can be reused as salt flux, and Al2O3 and MgO can be upcycled to various ceramic materials through the synthesis process. In this study, Mayenite was synthesized using Al2O3 and MgO recovered from black dross, and the synthesis was performed according to the mixing ratio and reaction temperature. It was confirmed that when Mayenite was synthesized using black dross (spinel) and CaCO3, precursors were changed to Mg0.4Al2.4O4 and CaO at 700 ℃, and to Ca12Al14O33 (Mayenite) after 800 ℃. In the mixing conditions experiment, it was confirmed that the Mayenite XRD peak increased with increase of the CaCO3 content, and the Mg0.4Al2.4O4 XRD peak decreased. As a result of the BET analysis of the synthesized powder, the surface area decreased as the fine particles were grown and agglomerated in the process of generating mayenite.

  • Glass ceramics composed of (5-X)$Li_2O$$XAg_2O$ㆍ36CaOㆍ$20TiO_2$.27$P_2O_5$(X=1 to 5) were prepared by melting process and 2 step heat treatment for nucleation at$610^{\circ}C$ and crystallization at $730^{\circ}C$, Fabricated crystal phases were $LiTi_2(PO_4)_3$(LTP),$AgTi_2(PO_4)_3$(AgTP)와 $\beta-Ca_3(PO_4)$. Antibacterial effects and characterizations of the glass ceramics as $Ag_2$O content were investigated. Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi were used in this study. Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi bacteria were removed 5 hours added after glass ceramics.

Protective Effects of Perilla frutescens Britt var. japonica Extracts from Oxidative Stress in Human HaCaT Keratinocytes (HaCaT 피부각질세포에서 들깻잎 추출물의 산화적 스트레스에 대한 항산화 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of methanolic extract from perilla (Perilla frutescens Britt var. japonica) leaves (PLME) on oxidative injury from hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) in human HaCaT keratinoctyes. Cells were co-incubated with various concentrations (0~200 ${\mu}g/mL$) of PLME for 24 hr, and then exposed to $H_2O_2$ (500 ${\mu}M$) for 4 hr. $H_2O_2$ significantly decreased cell viability (p<0.05). However, PLME provided protection from $H_2O_2$-induced HaCaT cell oxidation in a dose-dependent manner. To further investigate the protective effects of PLME on $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress in HaCaT cells, the cellular levels of lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzymes (including superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) and catalase (CAT)) were measured. PLME decreased cellular levels of lipid peroxidation, and also increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes. In addition, the antioxidant activities of PLME were also determined by DPPH and hydroxyl (${\cdot}OH$) radical scavenging assay, and major antioxidant compounds of PLME were measured by colorimetric methods. DPPH and ${\cdot}OH$ radical scavenging activities of PLME increased in a dose dependent manner and was similar to the DPPH scavenging activity of ascorbic acid at 50 ${\mu}g/mL$; however PLME activities were stronger than ascorbic acid (50 ${\mu}g/mL$) in the ${\cdot}OH$ scavenging assay. The amounts of antioxidant compounds, including total polyphenolics, total flavonoids, and total ascorbic acid from PLME were $52.2{\pm}1.1$ mg gallic acid (GAE)/g, $33.7{\pm}4.7$ mg rutin (RUE)/g, and $17.0{\pm}0.5$ mg ascorbic acid (AA)/g, respectively. These results suggest that PLME has a strong free radical-scavenging activity and a protective effect against $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress in the keratinocytes.

Study of Using Carbon Dioxide for Obtaining Potassium Chloride from Cement By-Pass Dust (시멘트 바이패스 더스트 내 염화칼륨 수득을 위한 이산화탄소 적용 연구)

  • As by-pass dust (BPD) made from cement manufactured process is designated waste, it is required to bury as high cost. The main component of BPD is potassium chloride (KCl), and used for the fertilizer. For using KCl to the fertilizer, the pH value of KCl is required as neutral or weak acid. However, it is not suitable to apply BPD into the fertilizer directly without any other treatment because BPD's pH value is shown 12.0~12.5; a high base. In this study, the carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) was used for removing calcium oxide (CaO) and reducing pH value during manufacturing process of KCl. We fixed inner condition of the carbon test chamber as $25^{\circ}C$-50RH%, and retained 0~7 hours under the 20 vol% of $CO_2$ atmosphere. After experiment, we analyzed the content of CaO and pH value from each samples. The more time exposed to $CO_2$, the content of CaO and pH value are shown. Furthermore, pH value exposed in 6 hours nearly reached 7.

Enhancement of Mechanical Properties of 2K Polyurethane Adhesives via Forming Ionic Bonds (이온결합 형성에 따른 이액형 폴리우레탄 접착제의 기계적 특성 향상)

  • In this study, the acid polyols containing acid groups were synthesized, the novel polyurethane adhesive was developed by introducing the acid polyol by content. The acid polyols were introduced, the mechanical properties showed the maximum value when the acid content was 0.1 to 0.3 wt%, and it was confirmed that the mechanical properties and adhesive strength decreased at the content higher than 0.5 wt%. As the acid group, carboxylic acid and sulfuric acid were introduced to compare properties, and carboxylic acid showed stronger hydrogen bonding potential than sulfuric acid and improved mechanical properties. In addition, the correlation between particle size and mechanical properties was confirmed by introducing ZnO and CaCO3. When ZnO and CaCO3 were introduced, an ionic bond was formed with an acid group, and it was confirmed that mechanical properties were increased.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of composting of household garbage. The composter with the double layer walls was operated for 60 days in each season. The following results were obtained at the end of the experiment, if the time was not specified. 1) The maximum temperature was $31^{\circ}C$ in spring, $36^{\circ}C$ in summer and $50^{\circ}C$ in winter. 2) The mass was reduced to an average of 58.5%. 3) pH values of the compost were 8.21 in spring, 8.29 in summer and 7.94 in winter. 4) The ash contents were 55.8% in spring, 57% in summer and 73.8% in winter. 5) The nitrogen contents were in the range of $0.2{\sim}5.8%$. Its values were the highest in winter and the lowest in summer. 6) Inorganic contents of the compost were in the range of : $P_2O_5$ ; $1.5{\sim}4.41%$, $K_2O$ ; $0.02{\sim}1.31%$, CaO $0.13{\sim}1.68%$ and MgO $0.05{\sim}1.22%$. 7) Heavy metal contents of the compost were in the range of : Zn ; $13{\sim}89mg/kg$, Cu ; $4{\sim}62mg/kg$, Cd ; $1{\sim}21mg/kg$, Pb ; $N.D.{\sim}97mg/kg$, Cr ; $N.D.{\sim}37$ and Hg ; $N.D.{\sim}1.38mg/kg$.

Effects of Native Korean Lespedeza(Lespedeza stipulacea Maxim.) on Soil Conservation (자생(自生) Korean Lespedeza(Lespedeza stipulacea Maxim.)가 토양보전(土壤保全)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Forty six natural habitats of Korean lespedeza(Leapedeza stipulacea Maxim.) were investigated for the growth characteristics, mineral contents of plant and the physico-chemical properties of natural habitat's soil compared with the upland soil nearby the habitat. The results obtained were summarized as follows. Plant height and dry matter yield were higher in the samples taken in late than early August showing large variation within the sampling date and location. Korean lespedeza showed higher contents of Fe and Mn, but lower contents of K, Ca, Mg and Cu than Alfalfa. The contents of P and Zn were about the same. The natural habitat showed higher soil pH and Ca content but lower contents of $P_2O_5$, K, and organic matter than the vicinity of natural habitats and the average soil of Korea. The contents of Mg were about the same. The soil texture of natural habitats showed much higher portion of sand and extremely low portions of silt and clay than both area. Korean lespedeza is so well adapted to the soil with low fertilizer and organic matter that other crops and most weeds fail. It also appears to thrive on the sandy loams, loamy sands of the piedmont region such as waste land and on the similar soils with variously physico-chemical properties.

Development of new substrate using redginseng marc for bottle culture of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) (홍삼박을 이용한 병재배 느타리버섯의 첨가배지 개발)

  • This study was carried out to investigated mixing ratio of redginseng marc using organic waste resource for production cost-reduction of oyster mushroom. Redginseng marc were examined as substitute of cottonseed meal which was primary nutritive material of mushroom growing substrate. Total nitrogen and carbon source of redginseng marc was 45% and 2.7%, respectively and C/N ratio was 16.7. Total nitrogen source and pH of substrate mixed with redginseng marc was 4.6~4.9 and 2.5~2.8, respectively. The contents of $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$ and MgO were decreased by increasing redginseng marc, but increased at the 20% redginseng marc. The contents of CaO was increased by increasing redginseng marc, but there was no significant difference in $Na_2O$ content. The more mixing ratio of redginseng marc was increased in column test, the more mycelial growth growed slowly. Yields of fruiting body was no significant difference compared with control group by adding of 10~50% redsingeng marc instead of cottonseed meal, but decreased sharply at only 20% redsingeng marc without cottonseed meal. The L value of pileus by increasing redginseng marc decreased during mushroom harvest, but there was no significant difference in the a-value and the b-value.
