An attempt was made to study on new method for the extraction of the regulatory proteins from myofibrils, and the procedures for the preparation of desensitized actomyosin and for complete extraction of troponin-tropomyosin complex were developed. When myofibrils were treated through the procedures developed in this study, actomyosin obtained had no Ca-sensitivity, indicating that Ca-sensitizing protein factor had been removed completely from myofibril. Consequently, it was concluded that the procedures developed in this study were convenient to test whether Ca-sensitizing proteins has been removed or not. When Mg-activated ATPase activity of myofibril were measured, the myofibrillar ATPase turned into the actomyosin type ATPase with the progress of the treatment. This result was interpreted to show that the regulatory proteins of the myofibril seems to play a cementing role on the structure of myofibril. When supernatant containing the regulatory proteins were fractionated with $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ saturation solution, regulatory proteins, ${\alpha}-actinin$ and troponia-tropomyosin complex, could be obtained and they showed their typical phyoislogical activity which modify the actin-myosin interaction. The amount of troponin-tropomyosin complex in myofibril was 72 mg per g myofibril. This result was in good agreement with the results reported by many investigators, and therefore it was concluded that our procedures for the extraction of troponin-tropomyosin complex were desirable to study on the quantitative analysis of troponin-tropomyosin complex.

We have developed the transparent passivation layer for top emission organic light emitting diodes using CsCl thin film by the thermal evaporation method. The CsCl film was deposited on the Ca/Ag semitransparent cathode. The optical transmittance of Ca/ Ag/CsCl triple layer is higher than that of Ca/Ag double layer in the visible range. The device with a structure of glass/Ni/2-TNATA/a-NPD/Alq3:C545T/BCP/Alq3/Ca/Ag/CsCl results in higher efficiency than the device without CsCl passivation layer. The device without CsCl thin film shows a current efficiency of 7 cd/A, whereas the device passivated with CsCl layer shows an efficiency of 10 cd/A. This increase of efficiency isresulted from the increased optical extraction by the CsCl passivation layer.
The effects of the physicochemical properties of soil such as soil pH, cation exchange capacity, and organic matter content on single extraction of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn using CaCl2, HOAc, HNO3, and DTPA were statistically investigated for 69 agricultural soils in Korea. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were applied for soil samples which were grouped on the basis of average values of the physicochemical properties of the soil. Diluted HNO3 extracted higher concentrations of Cr, Cu, Ni, and Pb when compared with the other extractants, however, similar amounts of Cd and Zn were extracted by HOAc with HNO3. The results of correlation analysis indicated that DTPA extraction showed a high correlation with other single and pseudo-total extraction methods, and the physicochemical properties of soil influenced the concentrations of heavy metals leached by the single extraction methods. In the case of Zn, high correlations between pseudo-total and the studied single extraction methods were observed. As a result of regression analysis, it was found that the physicochemical properties of the soil could explain up to 74% of variances of the single extraction results. These results indicate that the physicochemical properties of the soil can have a direct influence on the concentrations of heavy metals extracted by the single extraction methods.
In this work, the natural indigo production process from Polygonum tinctorium was balanced based on the traditional Niram method in Korea. A standard procedure was determined considering the conditions of indican extraction from plant material, the amount of alkali for precipitation, storage of extract, etc. The effect of experimental conditions on the yield of crude dye was investigated. The contents of indigo and indirubin of the crude dyes were analyzed by HPLC. Increase of the amount of crude dye was observed within 1-2.5 days of extraction time. Longer extraction beyond 2.5 days resulted in a slight decrease in the amount of crude dye. There was no consistency in terms of indigo content depending on extraction pH. We found that the storage of extract or harvested plants affected adversely to dye yield and dye quality. Based on the lab scale extraction, large scale extraction was performed for 2-2.5 days in water and 2.0-2.5 g/L of $Ca(OH)_2$ was applied for precipitation of indigo dye. We obtained natural indigo dye containing about 15% of pure indigo in scale-up production using whole plant except root.
To develope more effective extraction methods for paraquat in soil, some modification methods were accomplished in two different types of soil. For extraction of tightly bound-paraquat, conc. HCl 70ml were added with different shaking times, and then $H_2SO_4$ reflux were performed for an hour. In this case, 60 minutes shaking were optimum and recovery were increased more $1.09{\sim}1.50$ folds(84.0% in high clay contents soil, but 96.7% in low clay contents soil) and the long-time consuming step, filtration were easily done, with decreasing filtration time were shorter 4.6 folds(ca. $11{\sim}14min.$). than general paraquat analytical method(ca. $55{\sim}65min.$). And only $H_2O_2$ digestion with different volume and refluxing time resulted in recovery increasing. Nevertheless, considering analyst's safety, 30ml of $H_2O_2$ addition and 30 minutes reflux were regarded as optimum condition. Although, Kjeldahl digestion with $H_2O_2$ showed relatively high recovery, it is not significant statistically. For extraction of loosely bound-paraquat, 0.01, 0.1, 1.0, 10.0M of $NH_4Cl$ and of $CaCl_2$ compared with $1.5{\sim}24hr$ of different shaking time. There were no loosely bound residues of paraquat.
The efficiences of mineral acid (HCl), neutral salts ($CaCl_2$), and chelating agent (citric acid and $Na_2$-EDTA) were tested for extracting heavy metals from open burning and open detonation (OBOD) site soil. The extraction efficiencies of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn from soil for various extractants were in the order of HCl > citric acid > $Na_2$-EDTA > $CaCl_2$, HCl (1.0 M) extracted effectively 82%, 86%, 80%, and 46% of initial total concentrations of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn, respectively. Significant negative correlations were observed between pH of extractant and amount of extracted heavy metals. Initially, examined heavy metals were predominantly bound to carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide fraction. Though the significant amount of carbonate and Fe, Mn-oxide bounded metals were removed but a significant amount remained metals shifted to exchangeable (more mobile) fraction by HCl and citric acid extraction. The increased mobility of remaining metals could be problematic for water resources, thus careful management is needed to control the movement of heavy metals.

In this paper, we propose the face recognition system using HNMA(Hippocampal Neuron Modeling Algorithm) which can remodel the cerebral cortex and hippocampal neuron as a principle of a man's brain in engineering, then it can learn the feature-vector of the face images very fast and construct the optimized feature each image. The system is composed of two parts. One is feature-extraction and the other is teaming and recognition. In the feature extraction part, it can construct good-classified features applying PCA(Principal Component Analysis) and LDA(Linear Discriminants Analysis) in order. In the learning part, it cm table the features of the image data which are inputted according to the order of hippocampal neuron structure to reaction-pattern according to the adjustment of a good impression in the dentate gyrus region and remove the noise through the associate memory in the CA3 region. In the CA1 region receiving the information of the CA3, it can make long-term memory learned by neuron. Experiments confirm the each recognition rate, that are face changes, pose changes and low quality image. The experimental results show that we can compare a feature extraction and learning method proposed in this paper of any other methods, and we can confirm that the proposed method is superior to existing methods.

In the present paper, we investigated the development status of precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) production using steel slag, which is one of mineral carbonation (MC) technologies, from the standpoint of $CO_2$ utilization. Principle, feature, and global and domestic development status of the mineral carbonation technology were discussed together with the overview of the production method and market of PCC. Mineral carbonation is known as stable and environmentally-friendly technology enabling economical treatment of industrials wastes. Typically, PCC is produced by the reaction of $CO_2$ with supernatant solution after Ca extraction from steel slag followed by the separation of solid and liquid. The development status of MC using steel slag is at the pilot stage (Slag2PCC at Aalto University), and there remains the process economics improvement for commercialization. Key technologies for the further development are efficient extraction of Ca ions from steel slag including impurities removal, valorization of PCC via shape and size control, usage development and value-addition of residual slag, and optimization of reaction conditions for continuous process setup, etc.
The determination of Sr-90 in 93 Korean vertebrae was carried out using modified method of tri-n-butyl phosphate extraction. As a result, the average content of Sr-90 in Korean vertebrae was 2.29 pCi/g Ca in the female and 1.73 pCi/g Ca in the male and the average level of both sexes was 2.01 pCi/g Ca, which was slightly higher than those of other countries. On the other hand, the Sr-90 injected into intraperitonal cavity of rat was accumulated in bones mostly and distributed evenly to various types of hones. The rate of accumulation and removal was not dependent on the amount of Sr-90 injected and over one half Sr-90 injected was accumulated in bones within one day and then it was removed gradually after two days from the injection.
For the determination of radiostrontium, $^{89}Sr\;and\;^{90}Sr$ in environmental soil sample, a solvent extraction method for the separation of Ca and Sr from matrix using crown ether was investigated. In comparison with the existing fuming nitric acid method, the extraction method showed high chemical yield of strontium and provided simple and rapid analytical steps. The new analytical method applied to the determination of radiostrontium in some soil sample around a nuclear power station to show that the analytical procedure is readily applicable to the practical radioactivity monitoring.
