  • MAC protocol for WBAN performs CSMA/CA(:Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance)algorithm that handles traffic which occurs in emergency with top priority in order to deal with variable data of sensor node for medicine. Emergency message that node sends undergoes collision and delay of transmission by retransmission of emergency message and waste of energy by retransmission. This paper suggests algorithm that minimizes loss of frame caused by collision and applies different backoff parameters by setting order of priority between MAC instruction frame and data frame in CSMA/CA algorithm case which applies order of priority queuing to improve aforementioned problem. According to performance evaluation, it has been found that using suggested MAC protocol showed lower collision probability, higher packet transmission processing ratio and lower packet loss compared with using IEEE 802.15.6.

  • In this paper, we propose a scheme that tunes the backoff period for enhancing the system throughput with estimating the number of devices in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) networks. Since each device does not sense the channel always in IEEE 802.15.4 slotted CSMA/CA networks, a personal area network (PAN) coordinator is used to estimate the number of active devices. The PAN coordinator broadcasts an optimal backoff period for the estimated number of devices through a beacon frame. In order to estimate the number of devices in run time, a simple moving average filter is utilized. We show the performance of our proposed scheme in terms of the estimated number of devices and the system throughput. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme can obtain higher system throughput than the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

  • Tag collection is one of the major concerns in radio frequency identification(RFID) system. All tags in RFID reader's transmission range send response message back to the reader in response to collection request message on the given rf channel. When multiple tags respond simultaneously, tag-collision may occur. Tag-collision problem is one of the most important issues in active RFID performance. To mitigate this problem, frame slotted ALOHA(FSA) anti-collision protocol is widely used in active RFID system. Several studies show that the maximum system efficiency of FSA anti-collision protocol is 36.8%. In this paper, we propose an efficient slotted CSMA/CA protocol to improve tag collection performance. We compare our protocol to the FSA anti-collision protocol. For the experiment, an 433MHz active RFID system is implemented, which is composed of an RFID reader and multiple tags. We evaluated the tag collection performance using one RFID reader and 40 tags in the real test bed. The experimental result shows that proposed protocol improves the tag collection time, round and collision probability by 18%, 37.4% and 77.8%, respectively.

  • In wireless sensor networks, an energy efficient operation is important since the energy of the sensors is limited. This paper proposes an energy efficient method that reduces a packet generation with Matrix Completion method where sensor value matrix has low-rank and decreases a collision rate and an overhead by transmitting only sensor ID to a time slot corresponding to the sensor value. Computer simulations demonstrates that the proposed method shows 17% of transmission failure and 73% of the packet generation compared to a conventional CSMA/CS. Delay time of transmitting information of the proposed method exhibits 22% of the CSMA/CA and the MSE error after reconstructing sensor values by Singular Value Thresholding(SVT) in Fusion Center is 87% of the CSMA/CA.

  • The PRC-999K radio widely used in Korean Army is half-duplex and also has the broadcasting radio wave character that all subscribers listen when one subscriber speaks in time. The radio data communication system configures a 1:1 unicast network between a command post and network members in a military fire control system. The system also applies CSMA/CA technique to avoid data collision and additionally applies SDLC protocol for efficiency and fast communication. This paper shows that allocating address to network members in serial order can reduce data transmitting/receiving time, and thereby a command post needs to broadcast data only one time and the assigned members can reply in order without data collision. It is validated through an experimental test.

  • In this paper, we proposed an efficient medium access protocol to share single transmission medium for several stations. There are two well known types of medium access protocols: collision allowance and collision avoidance, and each of them is adopted to their own suitable network with advantage. Our proposed protocol have channel reservation facility based on collision allow medium access protocol, CSMA/CD. In a collision, the stations delay collision with generating pseudo collision signal to reserve channel. Then, the collision terminates and the stations, which reserve channel successfully, participate the next competition with higher medium access probability. We show that the proposed protocol reduced collision times and improved utilization of the channel.

  • In this paper, we study the problem of network utility maximization in a CSMA based multi-hop wireless network. Existing work in this aspect typically adopted continuous time Markov model for performance modelling, which fails to consider the channel conflict impact in actual CSMA networks. To maximize the utility of a CSMA based wireless network with channel conflict, in this paper, we first model its weighted network capacity (i.e., network capacity weighted by link queue length) and then propose a distributed link scheduling algorithm, called CSMA based Maximal-Weight Scheduling (C-MWS), to maximize the weighted network capacity. We derive the upper and lower bounds of network utility based on C-MWS. The derived bounds can help us to tune the C-MWS parameters for C-MWS to work in a distributed wireless network. Simulation results show that the joint optimization based on C-MWS can achieve near-optimal network utility when appropriate algorithm parameters are chosen and also show that the derived utility upper bound is very tight.

  • Data collected by sensors in field are transmitted to the base station gathering all of data. Because sensors have to gather data in surroundings and periodically transmit data to the base station, it makes energy consumed much. In this paper, we mose the scheme that is to avoid traffic congestion with achievement of energy efficiency, so collected data is transmitted efficiently. This is to adjust transmission rate differently in case of increasing or decreasing traffic and minimize the energy consumption with setting ideal options up basic CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access) protocol in each sensor. Through the simulation, we find the ideal CSMA options and apply the proposed scheme of traffic control mechanism to them and analyze them, then show energy efficiency and effective traffic control mechanism.

  • Currently the functionality of the PRC-999K radio that is widely used in Korean Army is half-duplex and the broadcasting system that all subscribers have to listen when one subscriber speaks in time. Radio data communication system configures peer-to-peer network between command post and network members in military fire control system. And the system applies CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance) technique to avoid data collision. Such a data transmitting/receiving time could be reduced by allocating address in serial order to each network members. By doing that, command post need to broadcast data only one time and assigned members will reply in order without data collision. This paper provides such a protocol and algorithm.
