The procedures of model test and performance prediction for the CRP-POD propulsion ships, are studied. At the CRP-POD system, which are highly applicable to ultra large container carriers, RPM ratio of two propellers is not fixed, unlike conventional CRP system, and hence the power of each propeller must be predicted respectively. In this paper, a CRP-POD system is designed for 10,000 TEU class ultra large container carriers, and the characteristics of the CRP-POD system are experimentally studied. Finally, based on this study, the procedure of powering performance evaluation for CRP-POD propulsion ships is suggested. However, further studies on quantitative correction of the present procedure are required.

The detection of C-reactive protein(CRP) using self-assembled monolayer(SAM) was investigated by a portable surface plasmon resonance(SPR) sensor system. The CRP is a biomarker for the possible cardiovascular disease. The SAM was formed on gold(Au) surface to anchor the monoclonal antibody of CRP(anti-CRP) for detection of CRP. Sequence injection of the anti-CRP and bovine serum albumin(BSA) into the sensor system has been carried out immobilize the antibody and to prevent non-specific binding. The portable SPR system has two flow channels: one for the sample measurements and the other for the reference. The output SPR signal was increased with the injection of the anti-CRP, BSA and CRP due to binding of the proteins on the sensor chip. The valid output SPR signals was linearly related to the critical range of the CRP concentration. The experimental results showed the feasibility of the portable SPR system with newly developed SAM to diagnose a risk of the future cardiovascular events.
Three-dimensional flow measurements were conducted between the rotors of the CRP To understand mean flow phenomena of the CRP's, the results of the three-dimensional measurements were shown. Interaction noise of the CRP, which increases the overall ,level of sound pressure In the new propulsion system, is documented by using the double conditional sampling technique. The rear rotor will increase the axial flow between the rotors of a CRP depending upon the relative locations between the forward and the rear rotor blades. The decay and spreading of the forward wakes and the upstream propagation of the rear blade disturbances are shown along with the interaction of the flow disturbances by the two rotors of blades.

This paper considers two linear drive systems using roller gear mechanism(RGM), one is the RRP(roller rack pinion) system that consists of a roller rack and a cam pinion, the other is the CRP(cam rack pinion) system that consists of a cam rack and a roller pinion. Through the comparison of contact forces and load-stress factors between two linear drive systems, it reveals that the RRP system is superior to the CRP system in the aspect of the bending strength, while the CRP system has higher contact fatigue resistance than that of the RRP system.
The anemometer measurements were obtained from stationary hot-film probe mounted between the forward and rear rotors of a model CRP which rotated the forward and different directions. Data collection was done at several locations between rotors. To establish rotor-rotor interaction flow mechanism that contributes noise increasement of the CRP, methods of simple and the double condition-at sampling have been developed. The former uses to find similarity of the wake the later fixes the forward rotor position in time or space and permits averaging the mean wake at any fixed rotor angular location. The variation of the forward wake Is strongly depending upon the rear rotor location.

Flows induced by hybrid CRP pod propulsion systems (CRP-POD) are fundamentally characterized by unsteadiness. This work presents a numerical study on the unsteady flow of a CRP-POD at behind-hull condition based on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Unsteady RANS method is adopted, coupled with SST k-u turbulence model and sliding mesh method. The propeller thrusts and torques obtained by CFD is validated by model tests and acceptable agreements are obtained. The time histories of shingle-blade loads and pressures near the hull surface are recorded for the analysis of unsteady flow features. The cases of forward propeller alone and aft propeller alone are also computed to distinguish the hull-propeller interaction and propeller-propeller interaction. The results show the blade loads of both forward and aft propellers strongly fluctuate with phase angles. For the forward propeller, the blade load fluctuation is mainly governed by the hull-propeller interaction, while the aft blade load is remarkably affected by the propeller-propeller interaction in terms of the load average and fluctuation pattern. The fields of pressure, vorticity and velocity are also analyzed to reveal the unsteady flow features.
The DcuS-R two-component system of Escherichia coli senses $C_{4}-dicarboxylates$ of the medium and regulates expression of the genes related to utilization of them. It is known that phospho-DcuR induces expression of genes such as the dcuB-fumB operon, the frdABCD operon, and the dctA gene. We analyzed promoters of the dcuS-R operon to elucidate the transcriptional regulation system. We found a novel internal promoter within the dcuS gene that is regulated by the transcriptional regulator, CRP-cAMP, in both aerobic and anaerobic conditions.

A ship's screw-propeller produces thrust by rotation and, at the same time, generates rotational flow behind the propeller. This rotational flow has no contribution to the generation of thrust, but instead produces energy loss. By recovering part of the lost energy in the rotational flow, therefore, it is possible to improve the propulsion efficiency. The contra-rotating propeller (CRP) system is the representing example of such devices. Unfortunately, however, neither a design method nor a full-scale performance prediction procedure for the CRP system has been well established yet. The authors have long performed studies on the CRP system, and some of the results from the authors' studies shall be presented and discussed.
The C-reactive protein(CRP) from ascitic and pleural fluid was purified using calcium dependent affinity chromatography of CNBr activated Sepharose-4B covalently coupled to p-diazonium phenylphosphorylcholine(DPPC) and hydroxylapitite chromatography. Polyclonal antibody was prepared from rabbit by immunizing the purified CRP. Specific immunoglobulin G was isolated using affinity chromatography and coupled to microparticles. A sensitive microparticle-based immunoassay was developed to measure CRP within 3 mins. The detection range was between 0.5mg/dl) and 20mg/dl in serum, showing strong response in the range of 0.7~2.9 mg/dl, weak response in 5.0~13.2 mg/dl and zone phenomenon over 28mg/dl. The average value of CRP in 74 samples was 3.8mg/dl and most of the values were lower than 10mg/dl .The CRP values of serum samples were determined by our microparticle-based immunoassay, and were compared with those obtained using the other commercial products(B Co., France and I Co., Japan). Good correlations were shown between the values obtained by our developed microparticle-based immunoassay system and those by other commercial products. All performance characteristics evaluated make our developed microparticles-based immunoassay suitable for a simple, rapid, and reliable screening of CRP in serum.
