  • In this paper, the performances of Cram$\acute{e}$r-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) with Frequency Difference of Arrival (FDOA) measurements for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) tracking are investigated. We focus on two cases: the influence on CRLB with FDOA measurements collected by time, and random distribution of Ground Stations (GSs). We derived the performance by gauging the size of CRLB through Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF). From the simulation results, broader distribution of GSs and FDOA measurements by longer time bring about better performance.

  • The performance analysis of wireless geolocation in a non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment is a very important issue. Since Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) determines the physical impossibility of the variance of an unbiased estimator being less than the bound, many studies presented the performance analysis in terms of CRLB. Several CRLBs for time-of-arrival (TOA), pseudo-range TOA, angle-of-arrival (AOA), and signal strength (SS) based positioning methods have been derived for NLOS environment. However, the performance analysis of time difference of arrival (TDOA) and TDOA/SS based geolocation techniques in a NLOS environment is still an opening issue. This paper derives the CRLBs of TDOA and TDOA/SS based positioning methods for NLOS environment. In addition, theoretical analysis proves that the derived CRLB for TDOA is the same as that of pseudo-range TOA and the TDOA/SS scheme has a lower CRLB than the TDOA (or SS) scheme.

  • In this paper, we described the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CLRB) performances of Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and Frequency Difference of Arrival (FDOA) methods when there are multiple emitters. The TDOA and FDOA values between two receivers can be simultaneously estimated by using the so-called Complex Ambiguity Function (CAF). In the case of multiple emitters, there exist Inter Symbol Interferences (ISIs) in the measurement data. Therefore, it is required to reduce the effect of ISI and provide a performance evaluation method of TDOA and FDOA estimations. In order to eliminate the ISIs, using of a filter bank before calculating CAF is proposed when the carrier frequencies of the emitters are different to one another. Angle of Arrival (AOA) or Received Signal Strength (RSS) methods before calculating CAF were proposed to reduce the ISIs when the carrier frequencies are the same. In order to evaluate the CRLB of TDOA and FDOA estimations, we employed the conditional probability distribution method and described the numerical comparison results.

  • In this paper, we derived a closed-form equation of a Best Linear Unbiased Estimator (BLUE) and its Crammer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) for the estimation of the position of the emitter based on the Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) teclmique. The BLUE and CRLB were derived for the case of estimating 2 dimensional position of the emitter with 3 base stations or sensors, and for this purpose, we nsed an approximated equation of the TDOA hyperbola equation obtained from the first order Taylor-series after setting the reference points of the position. The derived equation can be used for any kind of noises which are uncorrelated in each other in the TOA measurement noises and for a white Gaussian noise also.

  • Localization of mobile station (MS) has now gained considerable attention. Since the hybrid measurements can help to improve the positioning accuracy, several hybrid localization methods have been proposed in the literature. However, the high performance estimator with the closed-form solution and complete performance analysis for time-of-arrival/signal strength (TOA/SS) localization technique is still an opening issue. Two TOA/SS localization algorithms with the closed-form solutions are proposed for the cases with or without uncertainty in the positions of base stations. Furthermore, performance analysis for the TOA/SS localization technique is presented. Both the theoretical variances and Cramer-Rao lower bounds (CRLBs) are derived and the relationship between the cases with or without uncertainty is given. The paper also proves that the TOA/SS scheme has a lower CRLB than the TOA (or SS) scheme. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that the proposed method can reach its CRLB.

  • This paper proposes a simple method to measure system's performance in target tracking problems. Essentially employing the Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) on trakcing accuracy, an algorithm of predicting system's performance under various scenarios is developed. The input data is a collection of measurements over time fromsensors embedded in gaussian noise. The target of interest may not maneuver over the processing time interval while the own ship observing platform may maneuver in an arbitrary fashion. Th eproposed approach is demonstrated and discussed through simulation results.

  • This paper presents the development of the fast Direction Finder using direct conversion method, which can intercept for short pulse signal of less' than 1 msec. in RF Down Converter, and CVDF(Correlative Vector Direction Finding) algorithm, which estimates DoA (Direction of Arrival). The configuration and characteristics of direction finder using 5-channel equi-spaced circular array antenna are presented and the direct conversion techniques for removing tuning time using I/Q demodulator are described. The CRLB of our model is derived, the principles of 2 kind of CVDF algorithm are explained and their characteristics are compared with CRLB w.r.t the number of samples and spacing ratio. The RF Down Converter prototype using direct conversion method is manufactured, the 2 kind of CVDF algorithm are applied and their performance are analyzed. Finally it is confirmed the LSE based CVDF algorithm is better than correlation-coefficient based except for ambiguity protection capabilities.

  • If two signals with the same single-tone frequency and differing phases impinge simultaneously on an antenna at slightly differing angles, then a large error in the angle estimation might occur if the phase difference is either $0^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$. This phenomenon might arise with an airborne fire-control radar, which has a relatively small bandwidth, for a low-flying target over the sea or terrain surface. In this paper, we show that the $Cram{\acute{e}}r$-Rao lower bound for such a target can be significantly lowered with the use of two frequencies.

  • This paper presents a target localization scheme for distributed Multi-input Multi-output(MIMO) radar system using ToA measurements obtained from multiple transmitter and receiver pairs. The proposed method can locate the target from an arbitrary initial point by iteratively finding the Taylor linear approximation equation. The simulation results show that proposed method achieves the better mean square error(MSE) performance than the existing target localization methods, and furthermore, attains Cramer-Rao Lower Bound(CRLB).
