MIMO-OFDM System with Insufficient Cyclic Prefix (불충분한 CP를 갖는 MIMO-OFDM 시스템)

  • For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response, resulting in a loss of bandwidth efficiency. In this letter, the CP reconstruction (CPR) technique is first applied to a multi-input multi-output (MIMO)-OFDM system with insufficient CP. The intercarrier interference (ICI) from multiple transmit antennas is so large for MIMO system that it can not be sufficiently suppressed with the conventional CPR procedure used in single-input single-output (SISO) system. A new minimum mean-square error (MMSE) equalization and ordering process is proposed for MIMO system to suppress the ICI during the CPR procedure. By applying the proposed CPR algerian to MIMO-OFDM system, we can obtain both the benefits of multiplexing gai and spectral efficiency gain.

  • Energy spreading transform (EST) based equalization is a very effective technique to remove inter symbol interference (ISI) in frequency selective channel. EST based system uses cyclic prefix (CP) similar to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Since CP is a redundancy, it degrades the data transmission rate. RISIC is an algorithm that removes an inter block interference (IBI) caused by insufficient CP length and reconstructs CP. In this paper, we propose a system that combines the existing EST system with quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation and RISIC algorithm to enhance the efficiency of the transmission. Also we extend the proposed system to 16 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation. The proposed system is shown to performance close to matched filter bound (MFB) even with insufficient CP.

  • This paper proposes a spectral efficient space-frequency(SF) block coded single carrier-frequency division multiple access(SC-FDMA) transmission system in a relaying multi-path shadow area. The cyclic prefix(CP) is not used in the proposed system in order to prevent a loss of spectral efficiency due to the use of CP. The destruction of channel cyclicity due to the lack of CP is recovered at the receivers of relays and a destination station. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system without CP is almost same as that of the conventional system with full CP, thus increasing the spectral efficiency.

  • Cyclic prefix (CP) is one of the most important technique to OFDM system and is reducing inter-symbol interference (ISI) effects in high speed wireless mobile communication system. At the time varying channel condition, however, fixed CP length is not only increasing power consumption but also reducing data transmission rate. So in this paper, we propose the system that has adaptive CP length for high speed data transmission system. We don't control CP length of every symbol but adjust symbol interval depending on channel condition to CP reconstruction.

  • In this paper, we propose the acquisition method of the Cyclic-Prefix CDMA using Good-Autocorrelation-Sequence (GAS-CP-CDMA) system. The sequences for GAS-CP-CDMA are m-sequence and constant amplitude zero autocorrelation code (CAZAC) with good autocorrelation property. The GAS-CP-CDMA system is proposed for interference cancellation in multi-user and -path environment in co-cell. However, the reliable initial acquisition in multi-path fading channel and multi-user system environment is crucial. In this paper, non-coherent power detector and threshold value are used for discriminating signal acquisition. The sequence used for computer simulation is CAZAC. The simulation results show proper threshold value depends on the number of users. Through the computer simulation, we draw setting up method of the optimum threshold value for the GAS-CP-CDMA system.

  • In This Paper, we introduce an efficient IFFT design technique named for transmitter of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system. In OFDM system, a cyclic prefix is inserted in forepart of OFDM symbol to prevent ICI(Inter-channel Interference) and ISI (Inter-symbol Interference). Attaching cyclic prefix causes delay in storing and copying IFFT result. The proposed IFFT removes this delay because its output is cyclic shifted by the length of cyclic prefix. So we can make a complete OFDM symbol by just copying the forepart of IFFT output to the end. In many cases, the length of cyclic prefix is 1/2n of FFT size, and this IFFT does not require additional hardware complexity and it does not cause any performance degradation.

Bandwidth-Efficient OFDM Transmission with Iterative Cyclic Prefix Reconstruction

  • For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response, resulting in a loss of bandwidth efficiency. In this paper, we describe a new technique to restore the cyclicity of the received signal when the CP is not sufficient for OFDM systems. The proposed technique efficiently restores the cyclicity of the current received symbol by adding the weighted next received symbol to the current received symbol. Iterative CP reconstruction (CPR) procedure, based on the residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) algorithm, is analyzed and compared to the RISIC. In addition, we apply the CPR method to Alamouti space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM system. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic reconstruction of the CPR procedure should be repeated. The computational complexities of the RISIC, the proposed CPR, the RISIC with STBC, and the proposed CPR with STBC are analyzed and their performances are evaluated in multipath fading environments. We also propose an iterative channel estimation (CE) method for OFDM with insufficient CP. Further, we discuss the CE method for the STBC OFDM system with the CPR. It is shown that the CPR technique with the proposed CE method minimizes the loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of CP, without sacrificing the diversity gain of the STBC OFDM system.

  • In OFDM system, cyclic prefix (CP) is used to eliminate the inersymbol interference that is caused by the channel dispersion. However, a long CP reduces the data transmission rate. An alternative to a logn CP is the a time domain channel shortening filter at the receiver that shortens the effective channel, thus a short CP is used in spite of a long channel impulse response. In the paper, we compare a various channel shortening techniques; minimum shortened signal to noise ratio (MSSNR), minimum interblock interference (min-IBI), and minimum ISI (min-ISI).

  • In this paper we propose an efficient implementation technique for cyclic extension in VDSL(Very High bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) systems using Zipper duplexing and analyze its performances under typical telephone channel environments. In Zipper-based VDSL systems each DTM(discrete-multitone) block is appended by both cyclic prefix(CP) and cyclic suffix(CS). The CP is inserte to prevent both intersymbol interference (ISI) and iterchannel interference (ICI) while the CS is appended to ensure orthogonality between the upstream and downstream carriers thus preventing near-end crosstalk (NEXT). However in order to implement the CP in the transmitter side of the VDSL system an additional hardware is required to append the latter part of each DMT symbol to the beginning of the DMT symbol. In this paper we propose a VDSL system with Zipper duplexing using only CS to reduce hardware complexity (memory and processing delay) required for implementation of CP. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed approach has the same capacity under typical channel environments as the previous Zipper-based VDSL system using both CP and CS. even with a significantly lower hardware complexity.
