Experimental Study on the Adhesion and Performance Evaluation of Joints for Modified Polyethylene Coated Steel Pipes (개질 폴리에틸렌 코팅 강관의 부착 및 체결부 성능 평가 연구)

  • In this study, as part of the development of a monitoring system for the efficient maintenance of steel pipes, an experimental study was conducted to evaluate the performance of steel pipes treated with modified polyethylene coating. In the case of the conventional mechanical pre-coating method, there was a deterioration in polyethylene adhesion during expansion testing, which led to the application of a chemical pre-treatment process using a calcium-mixed phosphate zinc film to resolve this issue. SEM and EDX analyses showed that the densest structure was observed at a Zn/Ca ratio of 1.0, and improved heat resistance compared to the conventional method was confirmed. Additionally, to prevent coating detachment during expansion, an evaluation of adhesion and elongation was conducted on steel pipes with modified polyethylene coating, incorporating materials such as elastomers based on maleic anhydride grafting, metal oxides, blocking agents, and slip agents. Experimental results showed that the specimen (S4) containing all modified materials exhibited more than a 25% performance improvement compared to the specimen (S2) containing only metal oxides. Lastly, the development and performance evaluation of wedge-shaped socketing and pressing wheels, which are part of the pipe fixing accessories, were conducted to prevent surface coating damage on the completed pipes.

Research on Evaluation of Properties of PA6/PA66/GF Composite according to Injection Pressure and Simulation of Damping Performance (엔진마운트 브라켓용 PA66/GF 복합재료의 특성 평가 및 진동감쇠 성능 시뮬레이션에 대한 연구)

  • Research was conducted on a PA material-based composite material manufacturing method for application to engine mount brackets. Engine mount brackets must have heat resistance, impact resistance, and damping performance. PA66 resin was used as the base material for the composite material. The glass fiber was used as the reinforcement material. The composite material was manufactured using the injection molding method. The thermal, mechanical, and morphological characteristics were analyzed depending on the content of glass fiber. 3D model was created using the property evaluation database of composite materials(input data). The damping performance of the generated 3D model was extracted as out-put data. The reason for evaluating the characteristics of PA-based composite materials and conducting simulations on the damping performance of 3D models of engine brackets is because product performance can be predicted without manufacturing actual automobile parts and conducting damping performance tests. As a result of the damping simulation, damping performance tended to increase proportionally as the mass fraction of the reinforcement increased. But above a certain level, it no longer increased and slightly decreased. As a result of comparing the actual experimental values a nd the simulated values, the approximate value was within ±5%.

Mechanical Performance Study of Flexible Protection Tube for Submarine Cables (해저케이블용 유연보호튜브의 기계적 성능 연구)

  • Demand for submarine cable is increasing due to advances in submarine power transmission technology and submarine cable manufacturing technology. Submarine cable use various types of protective equipment to prevent problems such as high maintenance costs in the event of cable damage and power outages during maintenance periods. Among them, flexible protection tube is a representative protective equipment to protect cables and respond to external forces such as waves and current. The flexible protection tube is made of polyurethane 85A hyperelastic material, so the calculation of mechanical behavior is carried out using mechanical properties based on experimental results. In this study, a study was conducted to determine the bending performance and tensile performance of flexible protection tube through analytical methods. The physical properties obtained through the multiaxial tensile test of polyurethane 85A were used for the analysis. Bending and tensile performance were determined for the maximum bending moment standard of 15 kN·m and the tensile load standard of 50 kN. As a result, it was confirmed that when the maximum bending moment of 15 kN·m of the flexible protection tube occurred, the bending performance of the MBR was secured at 13 m and when a tensile load of 50 kN, it was applied the maximum vertical displacement was 968 mm, confirming that the tensile performance was secured.

Performance Analysis of CFRP Rear Spoiler according to Types of Inner Foam Core under High-speed Driving Condition (고속 주행 상황에서 CFRP 리어 스포일러의 내부 폼 코어 종류에 따른 성능 분석)

  • The inner foam structure plays an important role in the performance of the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) rear spoiler used in automobiles. However, there is still a lack of studies for the CFRP-based rear spoiler according to the type of inner foam, especially under the high-speed driving condition. With this motivation, we numerically analyze the performance of the CFRP rear spoiler using various cases of the inner foam under the highspeed driving condition. Here, polymethacrylimide (PMI), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) resins are employed as the inner foams in this work. The performances are evaluated using the deformation aspects and vibration characteristics when the driving condition is a high-speed condition (200 km/h). Furthermore, to specifically verify the importance of the inner foam in the high-speed condition, we additionally investigate the performance of the CFRP rear spoiler without the inner foam structure (i.e., hollow type). As a result, it is confirmed that among the types of inner foams utilized in this work, the PMI and PVC inner foams have the best deformation aspect and vibration characteristic, respectively. Note that the hollow-type inner foam has inferior performances compared to other inner foams invoked in this study. Consequently, through this study, it can be confirmed that the inner foam structure can significantly improve the performance of the CFRP spoiler under high-speed driving condition (200 km/h), and also that the strengths of the CFRP spoiler can manifest differently depending on the types of inner foam core.

Synthesis and Properties of Ionic Polyacetylene Composite from the In-situ Quaternization Polymerization of 2-Ethynylpyridine Using Iron (III) Chloride (염화 철(III)을 이용한 2-에티닐피리딘의 in-situ4차염화중합을 통한 이온형 폴리아세틸렌 복합체의 합성과 특성)

  • An ionic conjugated polymer-iron (III) chloride composite was prepared via in-situ quaternization polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine (2EP) using iron (III) chloride. Various instrumental methods revealed that the chemical structure of the resulting conjugated polymer (P2EP)-iron (III) chloride composite has the conjugated backbone system having the designed pyridinium ferric chloride complexes. The polymerization mechanism was assumed to be that the activated triple bond of 2-ethynylpyridinium salt, formed at the first reaction step, is easily susceptible to the step-wise polymerization, followed by the same propagation step that contains the propagating macroanion and monomeric 2-ethynylpyridinium salts. The electro-optical and electrochemical properties of the P2EP-FeCl3 composite were studied. In the UV-visible spectra of P2EP-FeCl3 composite, the absorption maximum values were 480 nm and 533 nm, and the PL maximum value was 598 nm. The cyclic voltammograms of the P2EP-FeCl3 composite exhibited irreversible electrochemical behavior between the oxidation and reduction peaks. The kinetics of the redox process of composites were found to be very close to a diffusion-controlled process from the plot of the oxidation current density versus the scan rate.

Electrochemical Characteristics of 2-Dimensional Titanium Carbide(MXene)/Silicon Anode Composite Prepared by Electrostatic Self-assembly (정전기적 자가결합법으로 제조된 2차원 티타늄 카바이드(MXene)/실리콘 음극 복합소재의 전기화학적 특성)

  • In this study, the MXene/Si composite was prepared by electrostacic assembly with 2-dimensional structured titanium carbide (MXene) and nano silicon for anode material of high-performance lithium-ion battery. Ti3C2Tx MXene was synthesized by etching the Ti3AlC2 MAX with LiF/HCl, and the surface of nano silicon was charged to positively using CTAB (Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). The MXene/Si anode composite was successfully manufactured by simple mixing process of synthesized MXene and charged silicon. The physical and electrochemical properties of prepared composite were investigated with MXene-silicon composition ratio, and the surface of electrode after cycles was analyzed to evaluate stability of the electrode. The MXene/Si composites demonstrated high initial discharge capacities of 1962.9, 2395.2 and 2504.3 mAh/g as the silicon composition ratio increased to 2, 3 and 4 compared to MXene, respectively. MXene/Si-4, which is MXene and silicon ratio with 1 : 4, exhibited 1387.5 mAh/g of reversible capacity, 74.5% of capacity retention at 100 cycles and high capacity of 700.5 mAh/g at high rate of 4.0 C. As the results, the MXene/Si composite prepared by electrostatic-assenbly could be applied to anode materials for high-performance LIBs.

Heat Shield Property of Nanostructural-regulated Fe2O3/TiO2 Composites Filled with Polyacrylate Paint (나노구조 변화에 의한 Fe2O3/TiO2 복합재료를 충전한 Poly Acrylate 도료의 열차단 특성)

  • Fe2O3 nanoparticles with the mixed structure of cubic and nanorod were synthesized by precipitation, hydrothermal, sol-gel method, etching process and heat treatment. Fe2O3/TiO2 core-shell (CS) of type Fe2O3@TiO2 composite was fabricated on a 20 nm nanolayer of TiO2 coated on the surface of Fe2O3 nanoparticles. Fe2O3/TiO2 yolk-shell (YS) composite was prepared by chemical etching and heat treatment of Fe2O3/TiO2 CS nanoparticles. Physical properties of Fe2O3, Fe2O3@TiO2 CS and Fe2O3@TiO2 YS nanoparticles were characterized by FE-SEM, HR-TEM and X-ray diffraction. The solar reflectance, commission internationale de l'Elcairage (CIE) color coordinate and heat shield temperatures of Fe2O3, CS and YS type Fe2O3@TiO2 pigments filled with poly acrylate (PA) paints were investigated by UV-Vis-NIR spectrometer and homemade heat shield temperature measuring device. The Fe2O3@TiO2 YS red pigment filled PA composite exhibited excellent near infrared light reflecting performance and also reduced the heat shield temperature of 13 ℃ than that of Fe2O3 filled counterparts.

Physiological Activity of Five Kinds of Medicinal Plant Extracts with Various Solvents and Their Composites (약용식물 5종의 용매별 추출물 및 조성물의 생리활성)

  • This study was performed to investigate the antioxidative activity of solvent (water, 50% ethanol, and 100% ethanol) extracts from five kinds of medicinal herbs Cutellaria baicalensis Georgi; SB, Paeonia lactiflora Pall.; PA, Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge; SM, Phellinus linteus; PH, Morus alba L.; MA). The total content of phenolic compounds was highest in the 50% ethanol extract from PH (280.05 mg/g), the 100% ethanol extract from PH (308.88 mg/g), and the water extract from SM (80.27 mg/g). The total content of flavonoids was highest in the 50% ethanol extract from SB (62.71 mg/ml), the 100% ethanol extract from SB (64.59 mg/ml), and the water extract from SM (35.85 mg/ml). ACE inhibitory activity only occurred in the water extracts, and it was highest in the water extract from SB (45.33%). Cholesterol adsorption activity was higher in the SB and PA extracts than in the other extracts. In water extracts, SM showed the highest antioxidative activity. Among the 50% and 100% ethanol extracts, DPPH radical scavenging activity and FRAP were highest in the PH extract, and ABTS radical scavenging activity was significantly higher in the PA extracts. Seven types of compositions were prepared with different mixing ratios of 0.2 to 2.0 from relatively high-activity medicinal herbs, such as PH, SM and PA. The total phenolic and flavonoid compound contents of the compositions were 50.53-61.96 and 16.91-33.81 mg/ml, respectively. Cholesterol adsorption activity was 46.27-70.03%.

Effect of Temperature on the Deposition Rate and Bending Strength Characteristics of Chemical Vapor Deposited Silicon Carbide Using Methyltrichlorosilane (메틸트리클로로실란을 이용한 화학증착 탄화규소의 증착율 및 굽힘강도 특성에 미치는 온도의 영향)

  • The effects of deposition temperature on chemical vapor deposited silicon carbide (CVD-SiC) were studied to obtain high deposition rates and excellent bending strength characteristics. Silicon carbide prepared at $1250{\sim}1400^{\circ}C$ using methyltrichlorosilane(MTS : $CH_3SiCl_3$) by hot-wall CVD showed deposition rates of $95.7{\sim}117.2{\mu}m/hr$. The rate-limiting reaction showed the surface reaction at less than $1300^{\circ}C$, and the mass transfer dominant region at higher temperature. The activation energies calculated by Arrhenius plot were 11.26 kcal/mole and 4.47 kcal/mole, respectively. The surface morphology by the deposition temperature changed from $1250^{\circ}C$ pebble to $1300^{\circ}C$ facet structure and multi-facet structure at above $1350^{\circ}C$. The cross sectional microstructures were columnar at below $1300^{\circ}C$ and isometric at above $1350^{\circ}C$. The crystal phases were all identified as ${\beta}$-SiC, but (220) peak was observed from $1300^{\circ}C$ or higher at $1250^{\circ}C$ (111) and completely changed to (220) at $1400^{\circ}C$. The bending strength showed the maximum value at $1350^{\circ}C$ as densification increased at high temperatures and the microstructure changed from columnar to isometric. On the other hand, at $1400^{\circ}C$, the increasing of grain size and the direction of crystal growth were completely changed from (111) to (220), which is the closest packing face, so the bending strength value seems to have decreased.

Development of an ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composite) Designed with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (고로슬래그미분말이 혼입된 ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composite)의 개발)

  • This paper presents both experimental and analytical studies for the development of an ECC(Engineered Cementitious Composites) using ground granulated blast furnace slag(slag). This material has been focused on achieving moderately high composite strength while maintaining high ductility, represented by strain-hardening behavior in uniaxial tension. In the material development, micromechanics was adopted to properly select optimized range of the composition based on steady-state cracking theory and experimental studies on matrix, and interfacial properties. A single fiber pullout test and a wedge splitting test were employed to measure the bond properties of the fiber in a matrix and the fracture toughness of mortar matrix. The addition of the slag resulted in slight increases in the frictional bond strength and the fracture toughness. Subsequent direct tensile tests demonstrate that the fiber reinforced mortar exhibited high ductile uniaxial tension behavior with a maximum strain capacity of 3.6%. Both ductility and tensile strength(~5.3 MPa) of the composite produced with slag were measured to be significantly higher than those of the composite without slag. The slag particles contribute to improving matrix strength and fiber dispersion, which is incorporated with enhanced workability attributed to the oxidized grain surface. This result suggests that, within the limited slag dosage employed in the present study, the contribution of slag particles to the workability overwhelms the side-effect of decreased potential of saturated multiple cracking.
