DESIGN SCOPE AND LEVEL FOR STANDARD DESIGN CERTIFICATION UNDER A TWO STEP LICENSING PROCESS

  • A small integral reactor SMART (System Integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor), being developed in Korea since late 1990s and targeted to obtaining a standard design approval by the end of 2011, is introduced. The design scope and level for design certification (DC) is well described in the U.S. NRC SECY documents published the early 1990s. However, the documents are valid for a one-step licensing process called a combined operating license (COL) by the U.S. NRC, while Korea still uses a two-step licensing process. Thus, referencing the concept of the SECY documents, we have established the design scope and level for the SMART DC using the contexts of the standard review plan (SRP). Some examples of the results and issues raised during our review are briefly presented in this paper. The same methodology will be applied to other types of reactor under development in Korea, such as future VHTR reactors.

  • In this paper, $TiO_2-V_2O_5$ thin films are fabricated by Sol-Gel method and their humidity-sensing characteristics have been investigated. The microstructure of specimen is porous. The humidity-sensing characteristics of thin films are good according to increasing heat treatment temperature and decreasing measurement frequency.

  • The dielectric and electrical properties of $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-PbTiO_3-BaTiO_3$ have been investigated. Perovskite crystalline phase of the specimens is confimed by XRD. The curie temperature decrease with increasing $BaTiO_3$ and hysteresis phenomena decrease with increasement of $BaTiO_3$. The strain vs. applied voltage characteristics exhibit nonlinear relationship and the specimen. of 0.9PMN-0.08PT-0.02BT shows the largest strain.

  • In this paper Dielectric and strain properties of (1-x-y)PMN-yPT-xST Ceramics have been investigated as a function of the amount of $SrTiO_3(ST)$. The $SrTiO_3$ content is ranged from 0.01-0.06(wt%). As the amount of ST is increased, dielectric constant has a maximum value at 0.05 mol composition. The Curie temperature is decreased linearly with increasing ST composition and Polarization properties have been investigated. Coercive field and ramnant polarization has a maximum value at 0.01mol composition.

  • When the magnetic levitation system(MAGLEV) initially rise, The MAGLEV has a weak point that is very large variation of the electric current. In this paper, The author applied the multi-loop-control to stably control the magnetic levitation system(MAGLEV). The gains of the control algorithm were selected based on pole locations formulated from a prototype Bessel transfer function model. The design incorporate tradeoffs in DC-to-DC converter hard-ware para-meters and pole locations. In order to confirm the superiority of the proposed pole selection and controller, MATLAB simulation and experiment results are presented.

  • In this paper, We found the thermal characterstic of impulsed magnetizing fixture system through the SPICE modeling and investigated the applied possibility in application aspects. As the detailed thermal characteristic of magnetizing fixure can be obtained, the efficient design of the magnetizing fixture which produce desired magnet will be possible using our thermal modeling. The purpose of this work is to compute the temperature increasing for different magnetizing conditions. The method uses multi-lumped model with equivalent thermal resistance and thermal capacitance. The model ing and experimental results are in close agreement.

$BaTiO_3$ 세라믹스의 PTC특성에 미치는 $La_2O_3$의 영향 (The Effects of $La_2O_3$ on PTC characteristics of $BaTiO_3$ Ceramics)

  • $({Ba}_{1-x}La_x)TiO_3,\;x=0{\sim}0.005$ specimens were fabricated by solid stste reaction method, and their PTC characteristics were examined. The gain growth is inhibited by La substitution, and it is confirmed that the specimens are crystallized at $900^{\circ}C$ from DTA analysis. The 0.003mol La substituded specimens show lowest resistivity and best PTC effects. Furthermore, the electrode sintered-specimens exhibite better PTC effects than no sintered-specimens.

  • The PSN-PT-PZ ceramics doped with the Mn-oxide(0.5wt%) were fabricated by the mixed oxide method at 1250($^{\circ}C$) for 2(hr) and then the dielectric and pyroelectric properties were investigated with the compositions. In the 0.05PSN-0.4PT-0.55PZ specimen with 0.5(wt%) $MnO_2$, the pyroelectric coefficient was $6.6{\times}10^{-8}(C/Cm^2^{\circ}C)$, and the figure of merits for pyroelectric current and voltage were $27{\times}10^{-9},\;45{\times}10^{-12}$(C.Cm/J), respectibly.

  • 유기발광소자의 발광층의 전압에 따른 임피던스의 변화를 살펴보았다. 임피던스는 전압의 변화에 따른 의존성을 보이며, 그에 따른 임피던스와 Cole-Cole 반원의 변화를 전기전도기구와 비교하여 살펴보았다. 소자의 구조는 ITO/$Alq_3$/Al의 구조로 발광층의 두께는 60 nm로 열증착하여 실험하였다. 실험에서 전기전도기구의 Ohmic 영역, SCLC 영역, 부성저항영역, TCLC 영역에서 각각 임피던스를 측정하였고, 전압의 증가에 따라 임피던스의 크기가 감소하고, 위상각은 0V에서 용량성을 보이다가 발광영역에서 저항성을 나타내는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 전압에 따른 Cole-Cole 반원을 살며보면 전압이 증가할수록 반원의 크기가 감소하는 것을 알 수 있으며, 이를 통해 간단한 등가회로를 예측할 수 있었다.

Ventricular Septal Defect Closure in a Neonate with Osteogenesis Imperfecta

  • A male patient weighing 2.5 kg was admitted for respiratory difficulty, and a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) was diagnosed. During care, sudden right leg swelling with a femur shaft fracture occurred. The patient's father had a history of recurrent lower extremity fractures; thus, osteogenesis imperfecta was considered. The patient's respiratory difficulty became aggravated, and VSD repair in the neonatal period was therefore performed with gentle sternal traction and great vessel manipulation under total intravenous anesthesia to prevent malignant hyperthermia. The patient was discharged without notable problems, except minor wound dehiscence. Outpatient genetic testing revealed that the patient had a COL1A1/COL1A2 mutation.
