An Efficient Architecture of Transform & Quantization Module in MPEG-4 Video Codec

  • In this paper, a VLSI architecture for transform and quantization module, which consists of 2D-DCT, quantization, AC/DC prediction block, scan conversion, inverse quantization and 2D-IDCT, is presented. The architecture of the module is designed to handle a macroblock data within 1064 cycles and suitable for MPEG-4 video codec handling CIF image formats. Only single 1-D DCT/IDCT cores are used for the design instead of 2-D DCT/IDCT, respectively. 1-bit serial distributed arithmetic architecture is adopted for 1-D DCT/IDCT to reduce the hardware area in this architecture. As the result, the maximum utilization of hardware can be achieved, and power consumption can be minimized. The proposed design is operated on 27MHz clock. The experimental results show that the accuracy of DCT and IDCT meet the IEEE specification.

  • In this paper, we implemented a speaker-independent speech recognizer using the TMS320F28335 DSP which is optimized for control applications. For this implementation, we used a small-sized commercial DSP module and developed a peripheral board including a codec, signal conditioning circuits and I/O interfaces. The speech signal digitized by the TLV320AIC23 codec is analyzed based on MFCC feature extraction methed and recognized using the continuous-density HMM. Thanks to the internal SRAM and flash memory on the TMS320F28335 DSP, we did not need any external memory devices. The internal flash memory contains ADPCM data for voice response as well as HMM data. Since the TMS320F28335 DSP is optimized for control applications, the recognizer may play a good role in the voice-activated control areas in aspect that it can integrate speech recognition capability and inherent control functions into the single DSP.

  • A sequential recursive Kalman filtering algorithm, using causal image model, which is designed to operate in real time in the scanning mode is developed to enhance quality of 64Kbps videocodec images via function of suppression of various noises and optimum restoration. In order to improve its performance, adapted an averaging of pixel values between processing lines and adaptive filtering strategy based on the local spatial variance. Effecttiveness of the Kalman filtering algorithm proposed has been proved in the processed test kalman filtering algorithm proposed has been proved in the processed test images and the NMSE, LOGMSE measured, therefore, it may proposes possibility of the usage in videocodec for pre- and post- processing.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel bitrate control, using both Kalman and FIR filters, based on a Hamiltonian analysis with respect to the amount of bits from each macroblock, in an encoding of a general video codec such as H.264/AVC. Since the proposed bitrate control is based on the simple computation of an optimal control method based on the Hamiltonian analysis, it is not necessary to use additional computation, such as a DCT or quantization, to estimate the bits for bitrate control. As a result, the proposed algorithm can be applied to single-pass encoding and can provide sufficient encoding speed with respect to various applications, even those requiring real-time control.

  • By using the cyclic properties of symmetric balance incomplete block design(BIBD) codes and arrayed-waveguide grating(AWG) routers, a compact optical CDMA network coder-decoder(codec) can be constructed. It can be observed that the various code families obtained by BIBD improve the BER performance compared to M-sequence code.

  • This paper describes a study on developing an insert and detect system of digital watermark to the MPEG-2 coder and decoder. Digital watermark inserting system substitutes a coefficient among the DCT coefficients for new one. This replacement performs in MPEG-2 PS format. Watermark detecting system analyzes the input data stream of MPEG-2 and detect the probability of occurrence of a specific code or watermarking code. Our inserting system had very high invisibility and the PSNR of the results was 130 dB around. And our detection rate of watermark was over 99% in digital format and over 85% in analog captured format according to the quality of contents.

  • VVC(Versatile Video Coding)는 YUV 입력 영상에 대하여 Luma 성분과 Chroma 성분에 대하여 각각 다른 최적의 방법으로 블록분할 후 해당 블록에 대해서 화면 내 예측 또는 화면 간 예측을 수행하고, 예측영상과 원본영상의 차이를 변환, 양자화하여 압축한다. 이 과정에서 복원영상에는 블록화 노이즈, 링잉 노이즈, 블러링 노이즈 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 인코더에서 원본영상과 복원영상의 잔차신호에 대한 MAE(Mean Absolute Error)를 추가정보로 전송하여 이 추가정보와 복원영상을 이용하여 Deep Learning 기반의 신경망 네트워크로 영상의 품질을 높이는 방법을 제안한다. 복원영상의 노이즈를 감소시키기 위하여 영상을 $32{\times}32$블록의 임의로 분할하고, DenseNet기반의 UNet 구조로 네트워크를 구성하였다.

A 3D Audio Codec Employing a Revised Noise Filling Method (수정된 잡음 채움 기법을 적용한 3D 오디오 부호기)

  • In this paper, a new noise filling method is proposed for improving the performance of the 3D audio codec. In the new method, the core band is limited up to MAX_SFB, not up to the IGF start frequency. And the noise filling is applied to all frequency range of the IGF source patches. We conduct the MUSHRA test and find that the proposed noise filling method demonstrates better performance than the conventional method.

  • 디지털 비디오 압축기술은 대용량의 영상을 화질 손실을 최소화하면서 압축률을 높이는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 모바일 디바이스에서 인코딩/디코딩시에는 프로세싱 오버헤드를 최소화 시켜야 할 필요성이 있다. 또한 특정 동영상을 압축할 시 불필요한 영상을 줄여 압축률을 높이고 타겟 오브젝트에 집중할 수 있도록 하기 위해서 Hierarchical Temporal Memory 를 사용해 오브젝트를 인식하고 타겟 오브젝트만 선택 압축하는 기술을 제안하고자 한다.

  • 모바일 환경 상에서 영상통화는 제한된 대역폭 및 손떨림 현상 등의 문제로 인하여 저품질의 서비스가 제공되고 있다. 기존의 영상통화 환경에서 향상된 품질의 영상통화 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 중요 객체와 비중요 객체를 구분하여 분리하며, 중요 객체에 대해서는 고화질을 갖도록 하는 비디오 압축 방법을 제안한다. 매 프레임 마다 중요 객체와 비중요 객체를 분리하며, 분리된 객체는 다른 비트율과 화질을 갖도록 각 객체에 적합한 변환 커널을 적용하여 부호화 절차를 달리한다. 중요 객체는 저압축, 고화질을 가지도록 부호화하며, 비중요 객체에 대해서는 고압축, 저화질을 가지도록 부호화함으로써 제한된 대역폭 내에서 비트율을 유지하도록 한다.
