As(V) adsorption on aluminum oxide powder which was recycled from industrial wastes containing aluminum hydroxide was evaluated. Aluminum oxide powder in this study was prepared by calcinating aluminum hydroxide wastes at$550^{\circ}C$. Spectroscopic analysis indicated that the aluminum hydroxide wastes were changed to aluminum oxide by calcination. Arsenic adsorption isotherm was conducted with variation of ionic strength and multiple-ion systems using Ca(II) and Cu(II). As(V) removal showed typical anionic adsorption characteristics that the removal efficiency decreased with increasing pH in single As(V) system as well as in binary and ternary system. More than 80% of As(V) at an initial concentration of $5{\times}10^{-5}$ M was removed from aluminum oxide powder in As(V) single system. The effect of ionic strength on As(V) adsorption was negligible, which indicated the strong bonding between aluminum oxide powder and As(V). The removal efficiency of As(V) was higher in a binary system with Cu(II) than in a binary system with Ca(II).
The objective of the study, to develop adsorbent based purifier for removal of radiological and nuclear contaminants from contaminated water. In this regard, 3-aminopropyl silica functionalized with ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (APS-EDTA) adsorbent prepared and characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). Prepared APS-EDTA used for adsorptive studies of Cs(I), Co(II), Sr(II), Ni(II) and Cd(II) from contaminated water. The effect on adsorption of various parameters viz. contact time, initial concentration of metal ions and pH were also analyzed. The batch method has been employed using metal ions in solution from 1000-10000 ㎍/L, contact time 5-60 min., pH 4-10 and material quantities 50-200 mg at room temperature. The obtained adsorption data were used for drawing Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms model and both models were found suitable for explaining the metal ions adsorption on APS-EDTA. The adsorption data were followed pseudo second order reaction kinetics. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained 1.3037-1.4974 mg/g for above said metal ions. The results show that APS-EDTA have great potential to remove Cd(II), Co(II), Cs(I), Ni(II) and Sr(II) from aqueous solutions through chemisorption and physio-sorption.

CO2 is known as one of the causes of global warming, and various studies are being conducted to capture it. In this study, a tetrafluoromethane (CF4) plasma reaction was performed to improve the CO2 adsorption of activated carbons (ACs) through changes in surface characteristics, and the adsorption characteristics according to the reaction time were considered. After the reaction, the micropore volume increased up to 1.03 cm3/g. In addition, as the reaction time increased, the fluorine content on the surface increased to 0.88%. It was possible to simultaneously control the pore properties and surface functional groups of the ACs through this experiment. Also, the CO2 uptake of surface-treated ACs improved up to 7.44% compared to untreated ACs, showing the best performance at 3.90 mmol/g when the reaction time was 60 s. This is due to the synergy effect of the fluorine functional groups introduced on the surface of the ACs and the increased micropore volume caused by the etching effect. It was found that the micropore volume had a greater effect on CO2 adsorption in the region where the CO2 uptake was less than 3.67 mmol/g, while the added fluorine content had a greater effect in the region above that.

Adsorpdon behaviors ofNi(II), Co(II), Sr(II), and(I) ions were nvestigated on amorphous alumina with varying pH at three different etalion concentrations under the condition of 0.I M ionlc strength. With increasingmctalion concentration, the percentage of adsorption decreased and the adsorption edge was shifted to a higher pH value. The adsorption data obtained usingthe metal ion concentration of $1.0{\times}10^{-4}$M were quantitatively analyzed by surfacecomplexation modelingof Ni(II) and Co(II) ions adsorbed at high pH (>8)were found to be in hydrolyzed forms.
The adsorption and desorption behaviors of NO and $N_2O$ over two mixed oxide catalysts, AlCoPd (1/1/0.05) and AlCoFe (1/1/2), have been investigated for the lean $NO_x$ trap applications. The catalysts showed good adsorption capabilities for NO and $N_2O$ without needing oxidation step. The adsorption decreased a lot when they are co-adsorbed with oxygen. While NO kept high adsorbability and selectivity with respect to oxygen, those of $N_2O$ decreased sharply. From the TPD results, NO and $N_2O$ are considered to decompose into nitrogen and oxygen in the higher temperature range and the oxygen seems to be strongly attached to the catalysts even at high temperature.
In this study, zeolites were synthesized by a fusion and a hydrothermal methods using a coal fly ash and a waste catalyst. The recovery performance of metal ions on the structure property of synthetic zeolites was evaluated as comparing the adsorption kinetics (Lagergen 2nd order model) and isotherm (Langmuir model) of $Co^{2+},\;Ni^{2+}$, and $Cu^{2+}$ ions. The synthetic zeolites (Z-C1 and Z-W5) were similarly assigned to XRD peaks in a reagent grade Na-A zeolite (Z-WK : $Na_{12}Al_{12}Si_{12}O_{48}\;27.4H_2O$). Adsorption rates of Z-W5 and Z-C1 were in the order of $Cu^{2+}\;>\;Co^{2+}\;>\;Ni^{2+}\;and\;Ni^{2+}\;>\;Cu^{2+}\;>\;Co^{2+}$, respectively. They had influenced upon structure properties of zeolite. Selectivities of metal ions and maximum equilibrium adsorption capacities, $q_{max}$, in Z-C1 and Z-W5 were in the order of $Ni^{2+}$ (127.9 mg/g) > $Cu^{2+}$ (94.7 mg/g) > $Co^{2+}$ (82.6 mg/g) and $Cu^{2+}$ (141.3 mg/g) > $Co^{2+}$ (122.2 mg/g) > $Ni^{2+}$ (87.6 mg/g), respectively. The results show that the synthetic zeolites, Z-C1 and Z-W5, are able to recover metal ions selectively in wastewater.
Poly(butylene succiate) (PBS), poly(butylene succinate-co-L-lactate) (PBSL), and poly(butylene succinate-co-6-hydroxycaproate) (PBSCL) polymers were degraded by lipase $PS^{(R)}$, and the enzymatic degradation mechanism of PBS was analyzed in detail. The enzymatic degradation of PBS gave 4-hydroxybutyl succinate (4HBS) as the main product. An exo-type hydrolysis mechanism was proposed based on this observation. The terminal chain of PBS had conformational similarity to ordinary tri- and diglycerides and could be incorporated as a substrate in the active site of this lipase. The surface adsorption of the lipase was much larger on PBS and its copolymer films than on the other polyester films because the lipase adhered quite strongly to the polymer terminal through a specific adsorption mechanism. Kinetic analysis showed that the total number of surface adsorption points per unit area of PBSL and PBSCL copolymers was larger than that of the PBS homopolymer.
Hydrocarbon gases generated from the gasification of waste could be converted into $CO_2$ and $H_2$ using reforming catalysts and then $CO_2$ was selectively adsorbed and removed to obtain pure hydrogen. To optimize adsorption efficiency for $CO_2$ removal, $Na_2CO_3$ was supported on nanoporous alumina and the efficiency was compared with commercial alumina(Degussa). Nanoporous adsorbents formed more uniform pores and larger surface area compared to adsorbents using commercial alumina. The increase of $Na_2CO_3$ loading improved adsorption of $CO_2$. Finally, the highest adsorption capacity per unit mass of $Na_2CO_3$ could be achieved when the loading of $Na_2CO_3$ reached up to 20wt%. When the content of $Na_2CO_3$ increased above 20 wt%, it aggregated on the surface, and the pore volume was decreased. Used adsorbents could be recycled by the thermal treatment.
In this study, the method of adsorption by activated carbon in the removal of Hg(II) ion in waste water was treated. The influence of kinds of activated carbon and effect of temperature and the influence of coexistent salt on adsorption rates, the influence of pH in the adsorption, equilibrium and adsorption of mercury from activated carbon were investigated. From the adsorption on activated carbon of mercury(II) ion in the presence of cyanide or thiocyanate ion was found that mercury(II) was easily adsorved onto the activated carbon in the form of complex artion such as Hg(CN)$_4^{2-}$, Hg(SCN)$_4^{2-}$ respectively. ZnCl$_2$ activation method had a higher adsorptive ability than steam activation method in adsorption of Hg on activated carbon. Activated carbon adsorbed iodide ion is very effective on adsorption of Hg.
The oxidation of carbon monoxide has been investigated on Ni-doped ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ catalyst at 300 to $450^{\circ}$. The oxidation rates have been correlated with 1.5-order kinetics; first with respect to CO and 1/2 with respect to $O_2$. Carbon monoxide is adsorbed on lattice oxygen of Ni-doped ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$, while oxygen appears to be adsorbed on oxygen vacancy formed by Ni-doping. The conductivities show that adsorption of CO on O-lattice produces conduction electron and adsorption of $O_2$ on O-vacancy withdraws the conduction electron from vacancy. The adsorption process of CO on O-lattice is rate-determining step and dominant defect of Ni-doped ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ is suggested from the agreement between kinetic and conductivity data.
