  • Monitoring through Synthesis Aperture Radar (SAR) is responsible for marine safety from floating icebergs. However, there are limits to distinguishing between icebergs and ships in SAR images. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used to distinguish the iceberg from the ship. The goal of this paper is to increase the accuracy of identifying icebergs from SAR images. The metrics for performance evaluation uses the log loss. The two-layer CNN model proposed in research of C.Bentes et al.[1] is used as a benchmark model and compared with the four-layer CNN model using data augmentation. Finally, the performance of the final CNN model using the VGG-16 pre-trained model is compared with the previous model. This paper shows how to improve the benchmark model and propose the final CNN model.

  • Individual mental fatigue not only reduces cognitive ability and work performance, but also becomes a major factor in large and small accidents occurring in daily life. In this paper, a CNN model for EEG-based mental fatigue discrimination was proposed. To this end, EEG in the resting state and task state were collected and applied to the proposed CNN model, and then the model performance was analyzed. All subjects who participated in the experiment were right-handed male students attending university, with and average age of 25.5 years. Spectral analysis was performed on the measured EEG in each state, and the performance of the CNN model was compared and analyzed using the raw EEG, absolute power, and relative power as input data of the CNN model. As a result, the relative power of the occipital lobe position in the alpha band showed the best performance. The model accuracy is 85.6% for training data, 78.5% for validation, and 95.7% for test data. The proposed model can be applied to the development of an automated system for mental fatigue detection.

  • Most accidents caused by road icing in winter lead to major accidents. Because it is difficult for the driver to detect the road icing in advance. In this work, we study how to accurately detect road traffic emerging risk using AutoML and CNN's ensemble model that use both structured and unstructured data. We train CNN-based road traffic emerging risk classification model using images that are unstructured data and AutoML-based road traffic emerging risk classification model using weather data that is structured data, respectively. After that the ensemble model is designed to complement the CNN-based classification model by inputting probability values derived from of each models. Through this, improves road traffic emerging risk classification performance and alerts drivers more accurately and quickly to enable safe driving.

  • The COI gene is a sequence of approximately 650 bp at the 5' terminal of the mitochondrial Cytochrome c Oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. As an effective DeoxyriboNucleic Acid (DNA) barcode, it is widely used for the taxonomic identification and evolutionary analysis of species. We created a CNN-LSTM hybrid model by combining the gene features partially extracted by the Long Short-Term Memory ( LSTM ) network with the feature maps obtained by the CNN. Compared to K-Means Clustering, Support Vector Machines (SVM), and a single CNN classification model, after training 278 samples in a training set that included 15 genera from two orders, the CNN-LSTM hybrid model achieved 94% accuracy in the test set, which contained 118 samples. We augmented the training set samples and four genera into four orders, and the classification accuracy of the test set reached 100%. This study also proposes calculating the cosine similarity between the training and test sets to initially assess the reliability of the predicted results and discover new species.

  • Click-through rate (CTR) prediction is an estimate of the probability that a user will click on a given item and plays an important role in determining strategies for maximizing online ad revenue. Recently, research has been performed to utilize CNN for CTR prediction. Since the CTR data does not have a meaningful order in terms of correlation, the CTR data may be arranged in any order. However, because CNN only learns local information limited by filter size, data arrays can have a significant impact on performance. In this paper, we propose a multi-array CNN model that generates a data array set that can extract all local feature information that CNN can collect, and learns features through individual CNN modules. Experimental results for large data sets show that the proposed model achieves a 22.6% synergy with RI in AUC compared to the existing CNN, and the proposed array generation method achieves 3.87% performance improvement over the random generation method.

  • Brain tumor classification is an important process that allows doctors to plan treatment for patients based on the stages of the tumor. To improve classification performance, various CNN-based architectures are used for brain tumor classification. Existing methods for brain tumor segmentation suffer from overfitting and poor efficiency when dealing with large datasets. The enhanced CNN architecture proposed in this study is based on U-Net for brain tumor segmentation, RefineNet for pattern analysis, and SegNet architecture for brain tumor classification. The brain tumor benchmark dataset was used to evaluate the enhanced CNN model's efficiency. Based on the local and context information of the MRI image, the U-Net provides good segmentation. SegNet selects the most important features for classification while also reducing the trainable parameters. In the classification of brain tumors, the enhanced CNN method outperforms the existing methods. The enhanced CNN model has an accuracy of 96.85 percent, while the existing CNN with transfer learning has an accuracy of 94.82 percent.

  • Concrete structures occupy the largest proportion of modern infrastructure, and concrete structures often have cracking problems. Existing concrete crack diagnosis methods have limitations in crack evaluation because they rely on expert visual inspection. Therefore, in this study, we design a deep learning model that detects, visualizes, and outputs cracks on the surface of RC structures based on image data by using a CNN (Convolution Neural Networks) model that can process two- and three-dimensional data such as video and image data. do. An experimental study was conducted on an algorithm to automatically detect concrete cracks and visualize them using a CNN model. For the three deep learning models used for algorithm learning in this study, the concrete crack prediction accuracy satisfies 90%, and in particular, the 'InceptionV3'-based CNN model showed the highest accuracy. In the case of the crack detection visualization model, it showed high crack detection prediction accuracy of more than 95% on average for data with crack width of 0.2 mm or more.

  • This paper considers the concept of analog computing based on a cellular neural network (CNN) paradigm to simulate nuclear reactor dynamics using a time-dependent second order form of the neutron transport equation. Instead of solving nuclear reactor dynamic equations numerically, which is time-consuming and suffers from such weaknesses as vulnerability to transient phenomena, accumulation of round-off errors and floating-point overflows, use is made of a new method based on a cellular neural network. The state-of-the-art shows the CNN as being an alternative solution to the conventional numerical computation method. Indeed CNN is an analog computing paradigm that performs ultra-fast calculations and provides accurate results. In this study use is made of the CNN model to simulate the space-time response of scalar flux distribution in steady state and transient conditions. The CNN model also is used to simulate step perturbation in the core. The accuracy and capability of the CNN model are examined in 2D Cartesian geometry for two fixed source problems, a mini-BWR assembly, and a TWIGL Seed/Blanket problem. We also use the CNN model concurrently for a typical small PWR assembly to simulate the effect of temperature feedback, poisons, and control rods on the scalar flux distribution.

  • This study focuses on the prediction and factors of apartment prices in Seoul using a convolutional neural networks (CNN) model that has shown excellent performance as a predictive model of image data. To do this, we consider natural environmental factors, infrastructure factors, and social economic factors of the apartments as input variables of the CNN model. The natural environmental factors include rivers, green areas, and altitudes of apartments. The infrastructure factors have bus stops, subway stations, commercial districts, schools, and the social economic factors are the number of jobs and criminal rates, etc. We predict apartment prices and interpret the factors for the prices by converting the values of these input variables to play the same role as pixel values of image channels for the input layer in the CNN model. In addition, the CNN model used in this study takes into account the spatial characteristics of each apartment by describing the natural environmental and infrastructure factors variables as binary images centered on each apartment in each input layer.
