Effect of Modification PP on the Physical Properties and CNF Dispersion of PP Powder/CNF 1 wt% Slurry Composite (PP 분말/CNF 1 wt% 슬러리 복합체의 CNF 분산 및 물성에 대한 개질 PP의 영향)

  • Polypropylene (PP) powder/cellulose nanofibers (CNF) 1 wt% slurry composites were prepared by filtering their suspension under reduced pressure and dried them in an oven followed by the use of a twin screw extruder. PP modified with side branches and polar groups was used. The side branches and polar groups were introduced into PP by using divinylbenzene and maleic anhydride (MAH), respectively. As a result of examining the dispersibility of CNF and the physical properties of the composite, it was confirmed that the composite prepared from PP powder/CNF 1 wt% slurry showed equal or higher levels in tensile and flexural strength as compared with those using the composite prepared from CNF powder.

Fabrication and Characterization of CNFs/Magnesium Composites Prepared by Liquid Pressing Process (액상가압공정을 이용한 CNF/Mg 복합재료의 제조 및 특성평가)

  • Carbon nano fibers (CNFs) reinforced magnesium alloy (AZ91) matrix composites have been fabricated by liquid pressing process. In order to improve the dispersibility of CNFs and the wettability with magnesium alloy melt, CNFs were mixed with submicron sized SiC particles ($SiC_p$). Also, the mixture of CNFs and $SiC_p$ were coated with Ni by electroless plating. In liquid pressing process, AZ91 melts have been pressed hydrostatically and infiltrated into three reinforcement preforms of only CNFs, the mixture of CNFs and $SiC_p$ (CNF+$SiC_p$), and Ni coated CNFs and $SiC_p$ ((CNF+$SiC_p$)/Ni). Some CNFs agglomerates were observed in only CNFs reinforced composite. In cases of the composites reinforce with CNF+$SiC_p$ and (CNF+$SiC_p$)/Ni, CNFs were dispersed homogeneously in the matrix, which resulted in the improvement of mechanical properties. The compressive strengths of CNF+$SiC_p$ and (CNF+$SiC_p$)/Ni reinforced composites were 38% and 28% higher than that of only CNFs composite.

  • The performance of fuel cell electrode depends on the characteristics of the catalyst support material. This paper deals with the use of CNF(carbon nanofibre) and CNT(carbon nanotube) as platinum catalyst support. The CNF and CNT were synthesized with catalyst treated by mechanochemical process and were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The platinum supported on CNF and CNT for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) application. In result, the best I-V characteristic was verified by the prepared MEA(membrane electrode assembly) from twisted CNF that had a diameter of 65 nm.

Synthesis and Electrochemical Characteristics of Mesoporous Silicon/Carbon/CNF Composite Anode (메조기공 Silicon/Carbon/CNF 음극소재 제조 및 전기화학적 특성)

  • Si/C/CNF composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were examined to improve the capacity and cycle performance. Si/C/CNF composites were prepared by the fabrication process including the synthesis and magnesiothermic reduction of SBA-15 to obtain Si/MgO by ball milling and the carbonization of phenol resin with CNF and HCl etching. Prepared Si/C/CNF composites were then analysed by BET, XRD, FE-SEM and TGA. Among SBA-15 samples synthesized at reaction temperatures between 50 and $70^{\circ}C$, the SBA-15 at $60^{\circ}C$ showed the largest specific surface area. Also the electrochemical performances of Si/C/CNF composites as an anode electrode were investigated by constant current charge/discharge test, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests in the electrolyte of LiPF6 dissolved in mixed organic solvents (EC : DMC : EMC = 1 : 1 : 1 vol%). The coin cell using Si/C/CNF composites (Si : CNF = 97 : 3 in weight) showed better capacity (1,947 mAh/g) than that of other composition coin cells. The capacity retention ratio decreased from 84% (Si : CNF = 97 : 3 in weight) to 77% (Si : CNF = 89 : 11 in weight). It was found that the Si/C/CNF composite electrode shows an improved cycling performance and electric conductivity.

  • CoNiFe(CNF)/$BaTiO_3(BTO)$/CoNiFe(CNF) multilayered thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates by using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) system. We fabricated three different thin films of BTO, BTO/CNF and CNF/BTO/CNF for magneto-capacitor and studied their crystalline structure, surface and interface morphology, and magnetic and electrical properties. When three different structures of multilayered thin film were compared, magnetization of CNF/BTO/CNF thin films was decreased by magnetic and dielectric interaction. Also we confirmed that capacitance of CNF/BTO/CNF multilayered thin film was enhanced as being near tetragonal structure with increasing of c/a ratio because of atomic bonding at interface between BTO dielectric and CNF magnetic materials. Finally, we studied the change of the capacitance of CNF/BTO/CNF multilayered thin film with magnetic field for emergence of magnetocapacitance and suggested a possibility of enhanced capacitance.

Surface Modification of Cellulose Nanofibrils by Carboxymethylation and TEMPO-Mediated Oxidation (카르복시메틸화 및 TEMPO 촉매 산화 처리에 의한 셀룰로오스 나노피브릴의 표면 개질)

  • In this study, cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) were modified through carboxymethylation or TEMPO-mediated oxidation and their effects on ionicity and characteristics of sheet, film, and foam were investigated. Carboxymethylation was carried out on pulp fibers as a pre-treatment before preparation of CNF. The gel-like and translucent CNF hydrogel was obtained by grinding of carboxymethylated cellulose fibers. Carboxymethylated CNF film and freeze dried sheet showed higher transparency than that of untreated CNF. The CNF sheet with high strength and the CNF foam without large ice crystals were obtained by using the carboxymethylated CNF. TEMPO-mediated oxidation was carried out as a post-treatment of CNF. The zeta potential and charge demand of TEMPO-oxidized CNF were increased with an increase in oxidation time and addition amount of NaClO. The density of sheet made of TEMPO oxidized CNF was increased with the amount of oxidizing agent. The TEMPO oxidized cellulose nanofiber (TOCN) which was obtained from supernatant after centrifugation could be converted to transparent film.

Effect of Master Batch and Compatibilizer on the Physical and Rheological Properties of PP/CNF Composite (PP/CNF 복합체의 물리적 성질 및 유변학적 특성에 대한 마스터배치와 상용화제의 영향)

  • Polypropylene (PP)/CNF composites containing 3, 7, and 10 phr of cellulose nanofibers (CNF) were manufactured using a twin-screw extruder. CNF was introduced in the form of powder or master batch (MB) into ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer (EEA), and maleic anhydride grafted PP (PP-g-MAH) was used as a compatibilizer. The results of measuring the tensile strength and flexural strength showed that the degree of improvement in the mechanical properties of the PP/CNF composites applied with the compatibilizer was the greatest. This was confirmed by the morphological analysis of SEM, which was due to the increased compatibility between PP and CNF. It was confirmed that the complex viscosity of the PP/CNF composite in the low frequency range was higher than that of pure PP, but there was no significant difference in processing characteristics due to the increase in shear thinning phenomenon.

Variations in Electrical Conductivity of CNF/PPy Films with the Ratio of CNF and Application to a Bending Sensor (탄소나노섬유의 함량에 따른 CNF/PPy 필름의 전기전도도 및 굽힘센서로 응용)

  • A new material, carbon-nanofiber/polypyrrole (CNF/PPy) composite films, with different CNF weight ratios were fabricated electrochemically. Compared to the fabrication process based on simple physical mixing, the flexibility of the new film has been improved much better than the previous similar material. Pure PPy films were also fabricated by the new electrochemical process for the comparison of difference. Several SEM images were taken at two locations (electrode-side and solution-side) and at the cross section of the samples. Electrical conductivity of the composite films was measured by the four-probe method. The conductivity of the pure PPy film 0.013cm thick was 79.33S/cm. The CNF/PPy composite film with 5% CNF showed a conductivity of 93S/cm. One with 10% CNF showed a conductivity of 126 S/cm. The conductivity of PPy improves, as the CNF weight ratio increases. The good conductivity of CNF/PPy composites makes them a candidate for a small bending actuator. A bending sensor consists of PPy and PVDF, which can be operated in the air, was designed and the bending deflection was calculated using FEM.

  • 공간 데이터베이스 시스템에서의 질의처리 과정 중 질의 재작성 과정에 의해 다중 블록 질의가 단일 블록으로 변환되면 공간 서술자와 비공간 서술자가 OR와 AND에 의해 연결되어있는 복잡한 CNF가 생성된다. CNF 내의 공간 서술자는 공간연산의 정제단계의 수행 비용이 비공간 연산에 비해 상당히 많이 들기 때문에 비공간 서술자와는 다른 최적화 기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 공간 서술자가 포함된 복잡한 CNF를 수평적으로 분리하여 질의를 재작성하고 수행순서를 재조정하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법은 원시 CNF를 수행 비용이 상대적으로 적은 전처리 단계의 CNF와 이에 비해 수행비용이 많이 드는 후처리 단계의 CNF로 분리하고 질의를 재작성 한 후 비용 모델에 의거해서 실행 트리를 최적화 한다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 기법은 질의 최적화 단계에서 공간연산의 단계별 실행특성을 감안한 효율적인 실행 계획 생성이 가능하다는 장점이 있다.

  • Since cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) has large specific surface area and high water holding capacity, it is very difficult task to remove water from the CNF suspension. However, dewatering of CNF suspension is a prerequisite of following processes such as mat forming and drying for the application of CNF. In this study, we evaluated the drainage of cellulose fibers suspension under vacuum and pressure conditions depending on the number of grinding passes. Also, the effect of the addition of cationic polyelectrolyte on dewatering ability of CNF suspension was investigated. Regardless of dewatering condition, the total drained water amount as well as the drainage rate were decreased with an increase in the number of grinding passes. Pressure dewatering equipment enables us to prepare wet CNF mat with relatively higher grammage. The cationic polyelectrolytes improved the dewatering ability of CNF suspension by controlling the zeta potential of CNF. The fast drainage was obtained when CNF suspension had around neutral zeta potential.
