  • In general, the dynamic analysis with FEM(Finite Element Method) of large structures requires large computer memory space and long computational time. For the purpose of economical dynamic analysis of large structures, most of engineers want to use an efficient solution algorithm. This paper reports the modified CMS(Component Mode Synthesis) method which uses more efficient algorithm than the classical CMS method. In this paper, it is shown that Ritz vector sets can play the role of normal mode vector sets of substurctures in the CMS algorithm. The modified CMS method has good convergence performance compared with that of the classical CMS method.

  • The method of substructure synthesis o. component mode synthesis(CMS) provides an effective means of dynamic analysis of very large and/or complex structures. In this study, residual dynamic flexibility attachment modes in hybrid component mode synthesis are considered for the purpose of exactly compensating the effect of higher order truncated modes. Following this way, the analysis accuracy of the synthesized structure can be improved effectively with less computational effort. In order to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid component mode synthesis(HCMS), numerical experiments were carried out for the models of a clamped-clamped beam. The results verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The component mode synthesis method(CMS) used for vibration analysis has demerit that error becomes larger, as degree of natural frequency grows higher. The reason of error occurrence is that Guyan's static reduction is used and the number of modes taken in each component is deficient. This paper proposes the substructure synthesis method using dynamic reduction to solve the problem from the component mode synthesis method. Computer simulation for the proposed method. FEM and the component mode synthesis method(CMS) on a rectrangular plate has been carried out to prove the avilability of the proposed method.

  • The Component Mode Synthesis Method for the -vibration analysis can be applied to the large-scaled structures, which have difficulty in modeling because of their intricate shapes and boundary conditions and need much time in computational calculations. This paper uses the Component Mode Synthesis Method to analyze the free vibration for the steel box bridge having the large number of D.O.F as an example of the large structural system. By comparing the CMS method to the other method (FEM), this paper proves the accuracy of the solution in techniques and the efficiency in time.

  • In the authors' preceeding paper, an improved component mode synthesis (CMS) technique in which experimental data as well as finite-element data are available in sub-systems has been proposed. Thi s technique, called an improved experimental free-interface method (IEFIM), has been proved to be more accurate and more efficient than the conventional experimental CMS method based on McNeal's formulation. It is due to the facts that dynamic residual terms as well as static ones are compensated from experimentally obtained FRFs and that FRFs measured on any frequencies can be used for the compensation. In this paper, the technique is applied to the component mode synthesis of a car body structure. As a result, the applicability of the technique to a large structure is demonstrated.

  • Component mode synthesis (CMS) method can be divided into free, fixed and hybrid interface method according to each component's connecting conditions. In this paper, major mode synthesis methods were reviewed and their accuracies were examined by comparing the calculated eigenvalues with those from full finite element (FE) model. Also, CMS is expanded into the coupling between finite element (FE) and experimental model. Since the assumed experimental data seldom have slope information, the slope information at the interface points is prepared by curve-fitting of the calculated values. A simple beam structure to show the effectiveness of the above method, and we found that it can improve the accuracy of the synthesis method in calculation, expecially in the low modes.

  • An efficient vibration analysis method, Component Mode Synthesis(CMS), for an exhaust system with bellows is presented. Analyses are performed for two types of bellows, where characteristics of vibration modes affecting idle shake and interior noise of a vehicle are examined. Also analyzed are the contributions of an exhaust and engine mounting system to the idle shake and interios noise. Comparison between the analysis and test is in good agreement, hence the CMS method is shown to be efficient and valid.

  • This paper discuss about structure modification method of the reciprocating compressor to reduce its vibration and noise in small refrigeration system. The structure modification is applied using analytic FE models and then applying suggested Component Mode Synthesis(CMS) algorithms. The efficient CMS algorithms to a compressor's fixed base design problem are analytically tried and verified from some experiments.

  • The substructure synthesis method is used for making it easy to analyze vibration systems generally in vibration field. In the past, this method has been to be used mainly because of shortage of computer memory and CPU time. But recently this method is used for analyzing complex structure or identifying the characteristics of systems precisely. The purpose of this study is to develop acoustic substructure synthesis method that can be applied to acoustic modal analysis of complex acoustic systems. Acoustic modal analysis method to be introduced here is a method that analyze acoustic natural mode shape of the complex acoustic system by the principle of CMS(component mode synthesis method). This paper describes the acoustic modal analysis of the acoustic finite element model of simple expansion pipe by acoustic substructure synthesis method. The resutls of acoustic modal analysis analyzed by Acoustic substructure synthesis method and the results by FEM(finite element method) shows good agreement.

  • In these days. the finite element method(FEM) is a very common method for not only a simple vibration analysis but also the optimization of structures. Since the finite element model may contain thousands of degree of freedom, the eigensolutions require extreme computing power, which will result in a serious time-consuming problem. Thus, many researchers have challenged to find more improved modeling techniques and calculating methods to overcome such problems. The Guyan reduction method and the substructure synthesis method are typical examples of such methods. Of the substructure synthesis method, the component mode synthesis method (CMS) is widely used for dynamic analysis of structure. In this study. for the efficient analysis of jet loom structure. Component Mode Synthesis was carried out. The results of the finite element program developed are compared with those of the commercial package program ANSYS for the validation of the program. The results obtained by the program showed a good agreement with those of ANSYS. The program will be further refined and verified by test to yield more accurate results.
