  • Polyester polyols were synthesized by using each one mole of sebacic acid, isophthalic acid, ethylene glycol, and neopentyl glycol. The synthesized polyol had 56.6 mg KOH/g of hydroxy value and 1980 g/mole of molecular weight. From FT-IR structure analysis of polyester polyol, Hydroxy group(-OH) was observed around 3600 $cm^{-1}$, -CH shoulder of sebacic acid at 2950 $cm^{-1}$, carbony group of ester around 1730 $cm^{-1}$, and benzene ring of isophthalic ring was represented at 1600 $cm^{-1}$, 740 $cm^{-1}$. In case of polyurethane, hydroxy peak was showed at 3600 $cm^{-1}$, and -NH group around 3300 $cm^{-1}$, 1530 $cm^{-1}$. From $^1H$ NMR measurement of polyester polyol, it was found that sebacic acid was represented at 1.3, 1.5, 2.1 ppm, isophthalic acid at 7.3, 8.1, 8.7 ppm, ethylene glycol at 4.2 ppm, and neopentyl glycol at 0.8, 3.2, 3.9 ppm, respectively. In the polyurethane, it is almost the same as spectrum of polyester polyol, but showed very week peak at 7 ppm by benzene ring of toluene diisocyanate.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the plant growth of several Carex L. plants according to light intensity and soil depth planted on a green wall and roof, and to show basic data for the use of Carex L. plants in various forms. The temperature was dropt more in the green container compared to the normal especially during the genial weather from August to September. The plant growth of Carex testaceae, Carex oshimensis Evergold, and Carex ciliatomarginata Nakai was excellent at light intensity from 0 to $1799\;{\mu}M{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$, and that of Carex siderosticta Hance, Carex flagellifera Bronzita, Carex ornithopoda Variegata, and Carex morrowii Ice Dance were best in lower light intensity from 0 to $786\;{\mu}M{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$. The leaf color of the plants changed vividly as the light intensity grew lower and the visible value of the plants increased. There must be more considerations about the pattern changes in additory experiments. The water content in the soil depth of 10 cm was maintained higher than the other treatments because of no drainage layer. Most Carex L. plants grew excellent in the soil depth of 10 cm. However, Carex oshimensis Evergold, Carex siderosticta Hance, and Carex testaceae showed the best plant growth in soil depth 20 cm, and Carex morrowii Ice Dance and Carex ciliatomarginata Nakai in soil depth of 40 cm. Therefore, Carex L. plants could be recommended as materials for green roof because they also grew well in light soil depth of 10~20 cm.

  • The feeding habits of Largehead hairtail Trichiurus japonicus was studied using 377 specimens collected in the Yellow Sea of Korea. The specimens ranged from 4.5 to 33.7 cm in Anal length (AL). T. japonicus consumed mainly a piscivore, such as Engraulis japonicus [percent index of relative importance (%IRI) =74.1%]. We calculated the trophic level as 3.84 for T. japonicus. Fishes were the main prey items for all seasons. The main fish prey during autumn and winter was E. japonicus, whereas those during spring and summer was Larimichthys polyactis. Fishes were the main prey items for all size groups (<15 cm, 15~20 cm, 20~25 cm, ≥25 cm). T. japonicus also showed size-related dietary shift from Spratelloides gracilis and E. japonicus to L. polyactis and T. japonicus. As the anal length of T. japonicus increased, the mean number of preys per stomach (mN/ST) and the mean weight of preys per stomach (mW/ST) tended to increased (One-way ANOVA, P<0.05). Seasonal and size-related shifts in dietary composition were investigated by PERMANOVA analysis, which showed significant variations among size classes and seasons.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to assess defibrillator pad positioning by the general public and healthcare providers during basic life support (BLS) renewal education (RE). Methods: A total 130 subjects performed defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED) equipped with electrode pads developed by the researchers and male resuscitation manikins, in order to assess electrode pad placement (EPP) before BLS RE. Subjects included 54 Healthcare providers (HP) and 76 members of the general public (GP). Results: The apex EPP was positioned in the risk area (RA), more than 5 cm distant from the area recommended, by 63.2% of the GP (n = 48). The apex EPP was positioned in the RA by 44.4% of the HP (n = 23). The distance from the apex (GP $5.27{\pm}2.21cm$, HP $4.18{\pm}1.71cm$) was statistically significant, using Student's t-test. Conclusion: For both GP and HP, apex EPP was significantly in error. Thus, to prevent defibrillation failures, EPP education and practice for GP and HP in all BLS education programs should be improved, and incorrect Korean cardiopulmonary resuscitation guidelines and related literature should be revised and corrected.

  • Effects of dimethipin on ${\alpha}$-amylase activity of barley seeds were investigated. In the treatments of $1{\mu}M\;and\;10{\mu}M$ dimethipin, the indexes of germination were reduced to 17% and 24 % respectively. After seed germination, dimethipin was added to germinated seedlings and then the seedlings were kept to measure seedling length under illumination for 7 days. In control, the length of seedling was 5.7 cm, but in the treatments of $1{\mu}M$ dimethipin and $10{\mu}M$ dimethipin, seedling lengths were 5.5 cm and 1.2 cm respectively. In the relationship between dimethipin concentrations and ${\alpha}$-amylase activities, there was a linear curve. The more dimethipin was added to the seeds, the more ${\alpha}$-amylase activities were inhibited. In the treatments of $1{\mu}M$ dimethipin and $10{\mu}M$ dimethipin, ${\alpha}$-amylase activities were reduced to 33% and 71% respectively. Dimethipin also inhibited ${\alpha}$-amylase activities increased by gibberellin and the content of soluble protein. Therefore, it could be suggested that dimethipin might inhibit directly the activities of hydrolysis enzymes including ${\alpha}$-amylase or the expression of ${\alpha}$-amylase genes as germination and seedling growth were severely disturbed.

  • Larvae of pandalid shrimp Pandalopsis japonica are benthic, and may prefer bottom to planktonic food items. Three diets, enriched Artemia meta-nauplii (AR), clam meat (CM), and crumbled shrimp (CD), were evaluated as food for early larvae in terms of biometric growth R:D ratios. Larvae fed AR and CM had significantly greater total length and dry weight than did larvae fed CD (P<0.05). Survival was significantly greater in larvae fed CM than in those fed AR and CD (P<0.05). R:D ratios were also significantly higher in larvae fed AR and CM than in those fed CD (P<0.05). Planktonic Artemia meta-nauplii containing high levels of fatty acids and amino acids were not suitable for either normal somatic growth or survival at early benthic larval stages. Furthermore, it is necessary to determine the optimal feeding duration to increase digestibility of AD. Thus, we propose that clam meat is the best diet for pandalid shrimp larvae.

  • Scaffolds are the structures that safely protect sensors in various parts of the body. Because of scaffolds must protect sensors from load, the tensile strength of the scaffolds must be higher than 750 kgf/cm2. Currently, the tensile strength of scaffolds made with the 3d printer is 714 kgf/cm2. We confirm that the tensile strength of the scaffolds increase using air with high nitrogen concentration. In this study, we conducted experiments to find nitrogen concentrations in which the tensile strength of the specimen is higher than 750 kgf/cm2. The nitrogen control device and the nitrogen concentration sensor were installed in the chamber type 3d printer. The nitrogen concentration inside the 3d printer was changed by 5 % from 80 % to 100 %. Specimens of ASTM D 638 standard were produced under changed nitrogen concentration. We measured the tensile strength of specimens. We compared the tensile strength of specimens produced under each nitrogen concentration. We confirmed that when air with nitrogen concentration of 90 % was used, the tensile strength of scaffolds were 762 kgf/cm2.
