Effects of the mosture and thermal annealing on CLBO crystal

  • The effects of the moisture and thermal annealing on CLBO crystal have been investigated. CLBO has hydrated at high humidity condition, resulting in 5B$_2$O$_3$$.$Cs$_2$O$.$8H$_2$O. The surface hydration seems to induce the cracking and the refractive index change in CLBO. The thermal annealing is effective to restore the changed index.

  • CsLiB$_{6}$O$_{10}$(CLBO) 단결정은 넓은 광투과 영역, 극자외선 영역에서의 광투과성, 비교적 큰 비선형 광학계수, 높은 레이저 광손상 문턱값 등의 우수한 특성으로 인해 극자외선 영역에서의 파장변환과 고출력 레이저의 파장변환에 매우 활발한 응용이 시도되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 CLBO 단결정을 이용하여 Nd:YAG 레이저의 1064 nm 파장을 4차 조화파인 266 nm 파장으로 변환시키고 광변환 특성을 조사하였다. (중략)

Advanced surface processing of NLO borate crystals for UV generation

  • Recent advances in NLO Borate Crystals for UV Generation are reviewed with the particular emphasis on the technique to improve the life time of UV optics. The laser-damage resistance of CLBO and fused silica surfaces was successfully improved after removing polishing compound by ion beam etching. The polishing compound embedded in the CLBO and fused silica surfaces were to a depth of less than 100nm. We were able to remove polishing compound without degrading the surface condition when the applied ion beam voltage was less than 200 V. The laser-induced surface damage threshold of CLBO was improved up to 15J/$\textrm{cm}^2$(wavelength: 355 nm, pulse width: 0.85 ns)as compared with that of the as-polished surface (11 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$). The laser-induced surface damage of fused silica also increased from 7.5J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 15J/$\textrm{cm}^2$. For the irradiation of a 266 nm high-intensity and high-repetition laser light, the surface lifetime of CLBO and fused silica could be more doubled compared with that of the as-polished surface.

UV light generation by CsLiB6O10 and effect of doping on crystal properties

  • We report on the fourth and fifth harmonics generations of Nd:YAG laser radiation realized in CsLiB6O10(CLBO). The values of 500 mJ and 230 mJ at 266 nm and 213 nm were obtained from 2200 mJ of fundamental energy. Doping of CLBO has been carried out and the Al doping was found to give rise to an enhancement of mechanical and chemical properties.

  • 3차 비선형 광학 현상을 이용한 파장변환에 대한 연구는 1960년대 초 비선형 광학 연구가 시작된 이래 최근까지 연구자들로부터 큰 관심을 끌지 못하였다. 1963년 Terhune 등이 방해석을 이용한 3차 조화파 발생의 첫 연구결과를 보고하였으나, 일반적으로 직접적인 3차 파장변환 효율은 2차의 경우에 비해 현저히 낮기 때문에, 2차 파장변환 과정을 두 번 이용하여 3차에 해당하는 파장변환을 얻는 방법이 널리 활용되어 왔다. (중략)

  • All solid-state UV lasers provide efficient, clean and semipermanent light sources for various applications, such as eye surgery, microchip lithography. $CsLiB_{6}O_{10}$ (CLBO) is one of the most suitable crystals for UV generation because of its small walk-off, large effective nonlinear susceptibility in UV region and high damage threshold. We produced fourth (266 nm) and fifth (213 nm) harmonic generation of an Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm) with $LiB_{3}O_{5}$ as a second harmonic generation medium and CLBO as a fourth harmonic and fifth harmonic mediums. Physical Properties of PNN-PMN-PZT Doped with Zinc Oxide and CLBO for Ultrasonic Transducer

  • In this paper, to develop the ceramics with high $d_{33}$ and high $Q_m$ for ultrasonic transducer applications, $0.10Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.07Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.83Pb(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})_{0.83}O_3$ (PNN-PMN-PZT) ceramics were sintered at $940^{\circ}C$ using $CuO-Li_2CO_3-Bi_2O_3$ (CLBO) as a sintering aid by a traditional solid-state technique. The influence of zinc oxide additive on the physical properties of the prepared ceramics were systematically investigated. The R-T (rhombohedral-tetragonal) phase coexistence was found in the ceramics without zinc oxide additive and with increasing amounts of ZnO additive, the specimens showed a tetragonal phase. The formation of a liquid phase between ZnO and $Bi_2O_3$ contributed significantly to the grain growth of specimens. For the 0.1 wt% ZnO ceramics, the optimal physical properties of $d_{33}=370pC/N$, ${\varepsilon}_r=1,344$, $k_p=0.621$, and $Q_m=1,523$ were obtained.

  • The interest in the use of borate crystals in ultraviolet(UV) nonlinear optics(NLO) has increased because all solid-stste UV lasers obtained with NLO are in highly demand. Much effort has been spent on developing borates series, such as{{{{ { beta -BaB }_{2 } {O }_{4 }(BBO), {LiB }_{ 3}{O }_{5 }(LBO)}}}} and{{{{{ CsKiB}_{6 }{O }_{10 }(CLBO)}}}} in this decade. Recently another new borate crystals, {{{{{ YCa}_{4 }O({BO }_{3 })_{3}}}}} and{{{{{Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }{Ca }_{4 }O({BO }_{ 3})({Gd }_{x }{Y }_{1-x }COB)}}}} have been developed by the present authors. Here, the growth and NLO properties of YCOB and {{{{ {Gd }_{ x} {Y }_{ 1-x} }}}}CO B crystal are reported and their properties discussed in relation to those of other nonlinear optical crystals, such as LBO.
