A new efficient intelligent machining strategy named the Steepest Directed Tree method is presented in this study, which makes surface model discrete with triangulation meshes and the cutter paths track along the tree directions. In order to formulate these algorithms practically, it is deduced the multi-stage machining approach of uncut volume caused by cutter gouging in the course of milling using flat end mill. It is systematized the checking process the cutter interference by grouping the 6 kinds of gouging types, which yields the environment of connectivity data lists including CL-data, and then the multi-stage machining strategy, that minimizes uncut area by continuously sequencing the generative subsequent CL-paths, is shamed to determine the second tool path for the next uncut area and to compose the operating multi-stage cutting processes. The completed machining system of curved surfaces is evaluated by testing the practical machining experiments which have various kinds of shape conditions.
The gas phase identity nucleophilic substitution reactions of halide anions (X = F, Cl, Br) with cyclopentadienyl halides (1) are investigated at the B3LYP/6-311+G**, MP2/6-311+G** and G2(+)MP2 levels involving five reaction pathways: σ-attack $S_N2$, β-$S_N$2'-syn, β-$S_N$2'-anti, γ-$S_N$2'-syn and γ-$S_N$2'-anti paths. In addition, the halide exchange reactions at the saturated analogue, cyclopentyl halides (2), and the monohapto circumambulatory halide rearrangements in 1 are also studied at the same three levels of theory. In the σ-attack $S_N2$ transition state for 1 weak positive charge develops in the ring with X = F while negative charge develops with X = Cl and Br leading to a higher energy barrier with X = F but to lower energy barriers with X = Cl and Br than for the corresponding reactions of 2. The π-attack β-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\pi}^{*}_{C=C}$ charge transfer interactions, whereas the π-attack γ-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\sigma}^{*}_{C-X}$ interactions. For all types of reaction paths, the energy barriers are lower with X = F than Cl and Br due to the greater bond energy gain in the partial C-X bond formation with X = F. The β-$S_N$2' paths are favored over the γ-$S_N$2' paths only with X = F and the reverse holds with X = Cl and Br. The σ-attack $S_N2$ reaction provides the lowest energy barrier with X = Cl and Br, but that with X = F is the highest energy barrier path. Activation energies for the circumambulatory rearrangement processes are much higher (by more than 18 kcal $mol^{-1}$) than those for the corresponding $S_N2$ reaction path. Overall the gas-phase halide exchanges are predicted to proceed by the σ-attack $S_N2$ path with X = Cl and Br but by the β-$S_N$2'-anti path with X = F. The barriers to the gas-phase halide exchanges increase in the order X = F < Br < Cl, which is the same as that found for the gas-phase identity methyl transfer reactions.
This paper describes an interpolation method for a parametric surface. A parametric surface is approximated to triangular mesh surfaces and then the basic paths are achieved. As the generated path is a series of linear segments, this algorithm can be easily adapted to general NC controllers. The generated paths have minimal transfer length and are gouge-free within the approximation tolerance. The problems, induced when the paths are represented by linear segments, are overcome without making any path deviation by this algorithm. This algorithm saves machining time by eliminating overdetermined tool paths and keeping the desired average feedrate, which improve productivity and lead to lower production costs.
In this paper, an integrated approach is proposed to generate gouging-free Cartesian tool paths for machining sculptured surfaces from 3D measurement data. The integrated CAD/CAM system consists of two modules : offset surface module an Carteian tool path module. The offset surface module generates an offset surface of an object from its 3D measurement data, using an offsetting method and a surface fitting method. The offsetting is based on the idea that the envelope of an inversed tool generates an offset surface without self-intersection as the center of the inversed tool moves along on the surface of an object. The surface-fitting is the process of constructing a compact representation to model the surface of an object based on a fairly large number of data points. The resulting offset surtace is a composite Bezier surface without self-intersection. When an appropriate tool-approach direction is selected, the tool path module generates the Cartesian tool paths while the deviation of the tool paths from the surface stays within the user-specified tolerance. The tool path module is a two-step process. The first step adaptively subdivides the offset surface into subpatches until the thickness of each subpatch is small enough to satisfy the user-defined tolerance. The second step generates the Cartesian tool paths by calculating the intersection of the slicing planes and the adaptively subdivided subpatches. This tool path generation approach generates the gouging-free Cartesian CL tool paths, and optimizes the cutter movements by minimizing the number of interpolated points.
Using solid inorganic peroxides (including Li2O2, Na2O2, SrO2 and BaO2) as starting materials, three reaction paths for singlet oxygen (1O2) production were developed and studied. Their 1O2 emission spectra in the near- IR region and visible region from these reaction paths were simultaneously recorded by a near-IR sensitive Optical Multichannel Analyzer and a visible sensitive Optical Spectrum Analyzer, respectively. The comparison of their 1O2 emission spectra indicated that: (1) in term of the efficiency for 1O2 production, the gasliquid- solid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl and H2O reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides suspension in CCl4) was prior to the gas-solid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides suspension in CCl4), but was inferior to the gas-liquid reaction path (in which Cl2 or HCl reacted with the solid inorganic peroxides solution in H2O or D2O); (2) the alkali metal peroxides (such as Li2O2 and Na2O2) was prior to the alkaline earth metal peroxides (such as SrO2 and BaO2) as the solid reactants, and Cl2 was favorable than HCl as the gas reactant in efficiency for 1O2 production in these reaction paths.
In this paper, in order to investigate the effects of marco and microscopic observations of fatigue crack growth in friction stir welded (FSWed) 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plates, fatigue crack growth tests were performed under constant amplitude loading condition at room temperature with three different pre-cack locations, namely base metal (BM-CL) and two kinds of pre-crack locations in welded joints, weld metal (WM-CL) and heat affected zone (HAZ-CL) specimens. The fatigue crack growth behavior of FSWed 7075-T651 aluminum alloy plates were discussed based on the marco and microscopic fractographic observations. The marcoscopic aspects of surface crack growth path for BM-CL and HAZ-CL specimens indicate relatively straight lines, however, the crack growth paths of WM-CL specimens grow first straight and by followed toward the TMAZ and HAZ. The microscopic aspects of fatigue fracture for BM-CL and HAZ-CL specimens indicate typical fatigue striation, but WM-CL showed intergranular fracture pattern by micro structural changes of FSW process.
During the homolytic reactions of $CCl_4$ or $Cl_3CBr with ${\beta}-halo^1$-styrenes,$\beta$-haloradicals are key intermediates. They are to be stabilized via three pathways; $\beta$-cleavage, halogen transfer and telomerization. The three reaction paths are delicately controlled by the energetics of their formation and stabilization. When the formation of a $\beta$-haloradical is accompanied by considerable excess of energy from an exothermic reaction, $\beta$ -cleavage is often dominant over the halogen transfer. On the other hand, if the radical forms via a reversible reaction, two processes become competitive. $\beta$-Eliminated bromine atoms from ${\beta}$ -bromoradicals generate $Br_2$ via $Cl_3CBr + {\cdot}Br {\leftrightarrow} Br_2 + {CCl_3}{\cdot}{Br_2}$ may act as a better scavenger than Cl3CBr for the ${\beta}$-bromoradicals. Different reactivities of chlorine, bromine and trichloromethyl radicals towards olefinic pi-bond are clarified in terms of the beat content of the addition reactions.
This paper presents a new paradigm for 3-axis tool path generation based on an incomplete 2-manifold mesh model, namely, an inexact polyhedron. When geometric data is transferred from one system to another system and tessellated for tool path generation, the model does not have any topological data between meshes and facets. In contrast to the existing polyhedral machining approach, the proposed method generates tool paths from an incomplete 2-manifold mesh model. In order to generate gouge-free tool paths, CL-meshes are generated by offsetting boundary edges, boundary vertices, and facets. The CL-meshes are sliced by machining planes and the calculated intersections are sorted, trimmed, and linked. The grid method is used to reduce the computing time when range searching problems arise. The method is fully implemented and verified by machining an incomplete 2-manifold mesh model.
5-axis NC machining of sculptured surface using non-ballendmill cutters (eg. facemilling cutters) is widely used in the machining of turbine blades and marine propellers. Since there are more degrees of freedom in 5-axis machining than in 3-axis machining, generating "optimum" cutter paths and finding desirable cutter positions become very important in order for an efficient use of 5-axis NC machines. Also critical in 5-axis NC machining are collision avoidance, gouging checking, and efficient kinematic solutions. In this paper we discuss the above issues in generating 5-axis CL data. They are : kinematics modeling of NC machine; inverse kinematics solution; interference between machine component and surface; cutter gouging. A unique search method for obtaining optimal CL data is proposed. The proposed method has been successfully implemented in the machining of marine propellers on a dual 5-axis (ie, 9-axis) NC machine.C machine.
