This paper shows a new kind of push-pull switching converter for fuel-cell system and analyses the connected characteristics of it. In these characteristics, we are concerned about the high harmonic rate of output current, we also have designed the filter system for the inverter. Besides, the characteristics should be certified better if the ripple of the fuel-cell output current has been eliminated.
A 20 wt % Pt/C is fabricated and characterized for use as the cathode catalyst in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). By using the polyol method, the fabrication process is optimized by modifying the carbon addition sequence and precursor mixing conditions. The crystallographic structure, particle size, dispersion, and activity toward oxygen reduction of the as-prepared catalysts are compared with those of commercial Pt/C catalysts. The most effective catalyst is obtained by ultrasonic treatment of ethylene glycol-carbon mixture and immediate mixing of this mixture with a Pt precursor at the beginning of the synthesis. The catalyst exhibits very uniform particle size distribution without agglomeration. The mass activities of the as-prepared catalyst are 13.4 mA/$mg_{Pt}$ and 51.0 mA/$mg_{Pt}$ at 0.9 V and 0.85 V, respectively, which are about 1.7 times higher than those of commercial catalysts.
The simulation program for solar cells, PC1D, was briefly reviewed and the device modeling of a multicrystalline Si solar cell using the program was carried out to understand the internal operating principles. The effects of design parameters on the light absorption and the quantum efficiency were investigated and strategies to reduce carrier recombination, such as back surface field and surface passivation, were also characterized with the numerical simulation. In every step of the process, efficiency improvements for the key performance characteristics of the model device were determined and compared with the properties of the solar cell, whose efficiency (20.3%) has been confirmed as the highest in multicrystalline Si devices. In this simulation work, it was found that the conversion efficiency of the prototype model (13.6%) can be increased up to 20.7% after the optimization of design parameters.
The dye decolorization rate in a cell-free culture broth of the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor CBR43 was studied, including the effects of inhibitors of NaCl, Zn(II), and Cd(II) on dye decolorization activity. The maximum rates of dye decolorization in cell-free culture broth were 1,410, 44.7, 41.2, and $0.19{\mu}mol{\cdot}l^{-1}{\cdot}min^{-1}$ for Acid Blue 62, Acid Black 175, Reactive Blue 4, and Acid Red 114, respectively. The inhibition effects of NaCl, Zn(II), and Cd(II) on dye decolorization were quantitatively compared using the half maximal inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$), which indicates the concentration of an inhibitor required for 50% inhibition. Based on $IC_{50}$ values, dye decolorization in the cell-free culture broth of CBR43 was most potently inhibited by Cd(II), whereas the inhibitory effect of NaCl was relatively low. The dye decolorization rates and $IC_{50}$ data can be used in the design and development of a dye-wastewater treatment process using T. versicolor CBR43 and its operating factors.

Activation of hepatic stellate cell has been identified as a critical step in hepatic fibrogenesis and is regulated by several factors including cytokines and oxidative stress. In this study, we assayed effects of saponin (CKS), inulin (CKI) and oligo-sugars (CKO) isolated from Platycodon grandiflorum A. DC, changkil (CK) on experimental cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in hepatic stellate cell line (HSC-T6). CKS induced cell arrest at G$_1$. CKS also reduced intercellular reactive oxygen species and collagen synthesis in hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress and acetaldehyde-stimulated collagen synthesis, respectively, in HSC-T6 cells. The effectiveness of noninfectious recombinant adenovirus encoding murine granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (mGM-CSF) for the treatment of Meth A fibrosarcoma was investigated in syngeneic BALB/C model. Meth A and HeLa cells transduced with the recombinant adenovirus (Ad.mGM-CSF) produced substantial amounts of mGM-CSF, while WEH1164 cells transduced with the virus did not produce mGM-CSF. Mice inoculated subcutaneously with $1{\times}10^6$ Meth A cells, followed by injection of Ad.dE1 as a control, developed large tumors that reached a mean tumor size of 22 mm by day 30. However, tumor development and tumorigenicity were significantly inhibited in mice with a single intratumoral injection of Ad.mGM-CSF at $1{\times}10^8\;pfu$. Histological examination of the tumors injected with Ad.mGM-CSF revealed dense infiltrates of neutrophils, histiocytes, lymphocytes, and eosinophils associated with apoptotic cell death. The results suggest that the recombinant adenovirus encoding GM-CSF have a potential use for cancer gene therapy.

Glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) is a serine/threonine protein kinase that is known to mediate cancer cell death. Here, we show that B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), an anti-apoptotic protein, is regulated by GSK-3β and that GSK-3β-mediated regulation of Bcl-2 is crucial for mitochondrial-dependent cell death in paclitaxel-stimulated cells. We demonstrate that MCF7 GSK-3β siRNA cells are more sensitive to cell death than MCF7 GFP control cells and that in the absence of GSK-3β, Bcl-2 levels are reduced, a result enhanced by paclitaxel. Paclitaxel-induced JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase) activation is critical for Bcl-2 modulation. In the absence of GSK-3β, Bcl-2 was unstable in an ubiquitination-dependent manner in both basal- and paclitaxel-treated cells. Furthermore, we demonstrate that GSK-3β-mediated regulation of Bcl-2 influences cytochrome C release and mitochondrial membrane potential. Taken together, our data suggest that GSK-3β-dependent regulation of Bcl-2 is crucial for mitochondria-dependent cell death in paclitaxel-mediated breast cancer therapy. The current solar cell industry is experiencing a temporary plateau due to a sluggish economy and oversupply. It is expected that the solar industry can see similar growth to that of the recent past by overcoming the current situation, as there is growing demand globally for solar energy. The current situation led to restructuring of the world's solar industry, and domestic firms will need to have competitiveness through strategic approaches and proprietary technology to survive in the global solar market. Crystalline and amorphous silicon based solar cells have led the solar industry and occupied half or more of the market thus far. They will do so in the future PV market as well by playing a pivotal role in the solar industry. In this paper, the current status and prospects of silicon based solar cells, from materials to comprehensive and high efficiency technology that can emerge in the future, are discussed.
Recombinant polioviruses have been developed by many research groups for use as vaccine vector because poliovirus induces mucosal immunity as well as humoral immunity through oral uptake. We assessed the potential use of poliovirus as a T-cell epitope carrier. Recombinant poliovirus V129 5L was constructed to have a substituted T-helper epitope from the core protein of Hepatitis B virus at neutralization antigenic site 1 on its VP1 capsid protein. The recombinant virus replicated less efficiently than type 1 poliovirus Mahoney strain. The V129 5L formed a little smaller plaques than the Mahoney strain and showed some 1.25 log unit lower titer at the peak in the one-step growth kinetics though it had similar growth profile to that of the Mahoney strain. Since V129 5L recombinant virus was genetically stable even after 24 successive passages in HeLa cells, the antigenic site 1 on VP1 capsid protein was confirmed for its ability of carrying T cell epitope. The genetic stability of V129 5L also indicated that recombinant poliovirus can be successfully utilized for the development of the multivalent vaccines.
A miniaturized lab-scale Cu plating cell for the metallization of electronic devices was fabricated and its deposit uniformity and profile were investigated. The plating cell was composed of a polypropylene bath, an electrolyte ejection nozzle which is connected to a circulation pump. In deposit uniformity evaluation, thicker deposit was found on the bottom and sides of substrate, indicating the spatial variation of deposit thickness was governed by the tertiary current distribution which is related to $Cu^{2+}$ transport. The surface morphology of Cu deposit inside photo-resist pattern was controlled by organic additives in the electrolyte as it led to the flatter top surface compared to convex surface which was observed in the deposit grown without organic additives.
