  • Numerical simulations of closed-type and open-type single injectors were conducted to investigate the flow characteristics of a swirl-coaxial injector used in a liquid rocket engine. Numerical analysis was conducted using a commercial program ANSYS FLUENT. The injectors has three models with different recess length. Numerical analysis was conducted to investigate the variation of the flow characteristics of the injector when the flow condition were changed. It was also compare and analyzed with experimental results. The results obtained from the numerical simulation show that the difference between the inlet pressure and the discharge coefficient is not significant.

  • In this study, we conducted study on the confirmation of thermal-hydraulic safety for Mast assembly with Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) analysis. Before performing the natural convection analysis for the Mast assembly by using CFD code, we validated the CFD code against two benchmark natural convection data for the evaluation of turbulence models and confirmation of its applicability to the natural convection flow. From the first benchmark test which was performed by Betts et al. in the simple rectangular channel, we selected standard k-omega turbulence model for natural convection. And then, calculation performance of CFD code was also investigated in the sub-channel of rod bundle by comparing with PNL(Pacific Northwest Laboratory) experimental data and prediction results by MATRA and Fluent 12.0 which were performed by Kwon et al.. Finally, we performed main natural convection analysis for fuel assembly inside the Mast assembly by using validated turbulence model. From the calculation, we observed stable natural circulation flow between the mast assembly and pool side and evaluated the thermal-hydraulic safety by calculating the departure from nucleate boiling ratio.

  • In this paper, commercial CFD program FLUENT v5.3 is used for simulation of MCFC stack. Besides using conservation equations included in FLUENT by default, mass change, mole fraction change and heat added or removed due to electrochemical reactions and water gas shift reaction are considered by adding several equations using user defined function. The stacks calculated are 6 and 25 kW class coflow stack which are composed of 20 and 40 unit cells respectively. Simulation results showed that pressure drop took place in the direction of gas flow, and the pressure drop of cathode side is more larger than that of anode side. And the velocity of cathode gas decreased along with the gas flow direction, but the velocity of anode gas increased because of the mass and volume changes by the chemical reactions in each electrodes. Simulated temperature profile of the stack tended to increase along with the gas flow direction and it showed similar results with the experimental data. Water gas shift reaction was endothermic at the gas inlet side but it was exothermic at the outlet side of electrode respectively. Therefore water gas shift reaction played a role in increasing temperature difference between inlet and outlet side of stack. This results suggests that the simulation of large scale commercial stacks need to consider water gas shift reaction.

  • In this study, three Dimensional CFD simulations were carried out to investigate the effective smoke extraction system in bi-directional road tunnel fires using FLUENT. Characteristics of transverse system with big size extraction port or with uniform extraction port, semi-transverse system and longitudinal system for smoke extraction system were analyzed. Air velocity, port size, and operating method were used with variable. Distributions of smoke spread, CO was analyzed. As a result, the transverse ventilation system with big size port was found to be more effective than the uniform ports for bi-directional road tunnel.

  • This study, the reliability of weapon systems acquisition and research and development in order to increase the effect of the modeling and simulation method has been studied using computational fluid dynamics. Weapon system acquisition, Test & Evaluation for use in the modeling and simulation can reduce the reliability of the time and cost savings and possible predictions and verification, and can provide useful data. However, the current weapon system acquisition and active use of modeling and simulation and verification do not even use the software are restricted. In this study, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling and simulation using the GAMBIT and FLUENT modeling and simulation was performed. The result is better than previous research results were confirmed in future weapon systems acquisition and research and development are expected to be actively used.
