  • There have been proposed two types of low bit rate vocoder upto now : One is MBE type using the spectrum modeling and another is CELP type using the hybrid coding method. CELP type vocoder has mainly studied between them. Specially, much of intensity is concentrated in CELP vocoder due to the emergence of Internet Phone and PCS in a domestic. In order to improve the speech quality in CELP vocoder, in this paper, we proposed a new spectrum analysis algorithm with variable window, In CELP vocoder, the spectrum of the synthesised speech signal is distorted because the fixed size windows is used for spectrum analysis. So we have measured the spectral leakage and in order to minimize the spectral leakage have adjusted the window size. Applying this method G.723.1 ACELP, we can get SD(Spectral Distortion) reduction 0.084(dB), residual energy reduction 6.3% and MOS(Mean Opinion Score) improvement 0.1.

  • Code excited linear prediction speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates as low as 4800 bps. The major drawback to CELP type coders is their large computational requirements. In this paper, we propose a new codebook search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reduced complexity. The basic idea is to restrict the searching range of the random codebook by using a searching technique of the regular pulse excitation. Applying the proposed method to the CELP vocoder, we can get approximately 48% complexity reduction in the codebook search.

In this paper, we propose a new pitch search method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder with reduced complexity. The basic idea is to restrict the pitch searching range by estimating the preliminary pitches. Applying the proposed method to the CELP vocoder, we can get approximately 87% complexity reduction in the pitch search.

  • Code Excited Linear Prediction(CELP) vocoder exhibits good performance at data rates below 8 kbps. The major drawback of CELP type coders is a large amount of computation. In this paper, we propose a new pitch searching method that preserves the quality of the CELP vocoder reducing computational complexity. The basic idea is that grasps preliminary pitches using the first formant of speech signal and performs pitch search only about the preliminary pitches. As applying the proposed method to the CELP vocoder, we can reduce complexity by 64% in the pitch search.

  • Code Excited Linear Prediction(CELP) speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates as low as 4800bps. The major drawback to CELP type paper, a comparative performance study of three pitch searching algorithms for the CELP vocoder was conducted. For each of the algorithms, a standard pitch searching algorithm was used by the sequential pitch searching algorithm that was implimented in the QCELP vocoder. The algorithms used in this study were 1) using the skip table(TABLE), 2) using the symmetrical property of the autocorrelation(SYMMT), and 3) using the preprocessing autocorrelation(PREPC). Performance scores are presented for each of the three pitch searching algorithms based on computation speed and on pitch prediction error.

  • The conventional CELP(code excited linear prediction) type vocoder has no V/UV(voiced/unvoiced) classifier. So, the unvoiced speech is processed like the voiced speech. In this paper, to reduce the bit rate, we propose a new V/UV decision algorithm minimized error rate and preprocessing computation. This V/UV classifier use the LSP(line spectrum pair) parameter which is acquired spectrum analysis process in CELP vocoders. Applying this method to the 5.3kbps ACELP(algebraic code excited linear prediction) in the G.723.1, we can get the transmission bits rate reduction of 6% approximately without degradation of speech quality.

  • In general CELP(Code Excited Linear Prediction) type vocoders provide good speech qualify around 4.8kbps. Among them, G.723.1 developed for Internet Phone and video-conferencing includes two vocoders, 5.3kbps ACELP(Algebraic-CELP) and 6.3kbps MP-MLQ(Multi-Pulse Maximum Likelihood Quantization) In order to improve the speech qualify in CELP vocoder, in this paper. we proposed a new spectrum analysis algorithm with variable window In CELP vocoder, the spectrum of the synthesised speech signal is distorted because the fixed size windows is used for spectrum analysis. • Code excited linear prediction speech coders exhibit good performance at data rates as low as 4800bps. But the major drawback to CELP type coders is their large computational requirements. Therefore, in this paper a comparative performance study of three pitch searching algorithms for the CELP vocoder was conducted. For each of the algorithms, a standard pitch searching algorithm was used by the full pitch searching algorithm that was implimented in the QCELP vocoder. The algorithms used in this study is to reduce the pitch searching time 1) using the skip table, 2) using the symmetrical property of the autocorrelation , and 3) using the preprocessing autocorrelation, 4) using the positive autocorrelation, 5) using the preliminary pitch. Performance scores are presented for each of the five pitch searching algorithms based on computation speed and on pitch prediction error.
