  • In order to support a cell-independent traffic asymmetry, the conventional TDD system cannot avoid crossed time slot (CTS) interference. Moreover, the TDD/FDD hierarchical overlay cellular systems is taken into account as a generally accepted cell model in a heterogeneous radio environment. In this paper, we propose an interference resolving radio resource allocation technique in a TDD-OFDMA cellular system that overlays a FDD-CDMA cell. In our proposed scheme, we exploit under-used FDD-CDMA uplink resource by TDD mobile abiding by a region based time slot(TS) allocation which in turn mitigates CTS interference considerably. It is demonstrated that combined with under-used resource utilization scheme based on mobile's location, the proposed technique can reduce CTS interference considerably and support the asymmetric traffic in TDD system.

  • The CDMA system with time division duplex mode (CDMA/TDD system) is a highly attractive solution to support the next generation cellular mobile systems providing multimedia services where the traffic unbalance between downlink and uplink exists. In this paper, the capacity of the CDMA/TDD system is analyzed in general multicell environments. For this analysis, the interference for a time slot is analyzed, and a time slot and channel allocation problem is mathematically formulated and solved using simulated annealing technique. Computational experiments provide a promising result.

  • Most of CDMA system algorithm must be verified by simulating the cellular system consisted of many other tier cells. But it takes long time to simulate such a huge CDMA cellular system. In this paper, we propose an effective time saving simulation scheme based on wraparound technique. And we study that how our remaining cell interference compensation method works on calculating of the total interference, SIR, outage probability, and cell capacity. We made a conclusion that by using proposed scheme, we can get the same result of maximum configuration cells with only one tier real cells and that we can minimize the simulation time.

  • This paper presents design and development of a simulator evaluates the performance of a hierarchical cellular system. The proposed hierarchical cellular simulator, consisting of macro, micro, and pico cells, applies the wrap-around technique to reduce simulation time. The simulator is implemented as object oriented class models by using the C++ language in a PC environment. The resulting application can evaluate the interference, SIR(Signal to Interference Ratio), and capacity of a hierarchical cellular system in various configurations. Moreover, it can be used in other applications such as power control, call admission control, hand over scheme.

  • In this paper, we analyze capacities of spectrum sharing scheme for both reverse link and forward link in hierachical CDMA cellular systems with Hot-spot microcell. Capacity analysis is performed through Monte-Carlo simulation by considering microcell radius, location of microcell. and transmission power ratio of microoell to macrocell. From simulation results, we analyzed these effects and derived a general design approach. In addition, the performance of spectrum sharing scheme for each link is analyzed in the capacity plane.

  • In this paper, a computer simulation approach is proposed to analyze the performance of reverse traffic channels in a base station serving voice and data calls in CDMA cellular systems. It is assumed that multiple traffic channels simultaneously serve a data call and a voice call is served by one traffic channel in a base station. The numerical examples will be presented to derive the capacity of traffic channels from the parameters such as the arrival rates and mean durations of voice and data calls, the soft handoff area ratio, etc..

  • The current paper proposes fast distributed constrained power control (FDCPC) with a non stationary relaxation factor as the next power update for CDMA cellular power control systems. A review is also given of unconstrained control algorithms: distributed power control (DPC), unconstrained second order power control (USOPC), and DPC with a stationary relaxation factor (DPCSRF) To improve the performance of outage probability convergence, DCPC with a non stationary relaxation factor (FDCPC) is proposed. Under constrained conditions, the convergence rate of FDCPC is shown to outperform that of DCPC and constrained second order power control(CSOPC).

  • Communication systems, including cell-based mobile communication systems, multiple satellite communication systems of multi-beam satellite systems, require reliable handoff methods between cell-to-cell, satellite-to-satellite of beam-to-team, respectively. Recent measurement of a CDMA cellular system indicates that the system is in handoff at about 35% to 70% of an average call period. Therefore, system reliability during handoff is one of the major system performance parameters and eventually becomes a factor in the overall system capacity. This paper presents novel and improved techniques for handoff in cellular communications, multi-beam and multi-satellite systems that require handoff during a session. this new handoff system combines the soft handoff mechanism currently implemented in the IS-95 CDMA with code and packet diversity combining techniques and an iterative decoding algorithm (Turbo Coding). the Turbo code introduced by Berrou et all. has been demonstrated its remarkable performance achieving the near Shannon channel capacity [1]. Recently. Turbo codes have been adapted as the coding scheme for the data transmission of the third generation international cellular communication standards : UTRA and CDMA 2000. Our proposed encoder and decoder schemes modified from the original Turbo code is suitable for the code and packet diversity combining techniques. this proposed system provides not only an unprecedented coding gain from the Turbo code and it iterative decoding, but also gain induced by the code and packet diversity combining technique which is similar to the hybrid Type II ARQ. We demonstrate performance improvements in AWGN channel and Rayleigh fading channel with perfect channel state information (CSI) through simulations for at low signal to noise ratio and analysis using exact upper bounding techniques for medium to high signal to noise ratio.

  • This paper proposes a transient (predictive) connection admission control (CAC) scheme using the transient quality of service (QoS) measure for CDMA cellular systems with bursts On-Off sources. We need an approximate and bounded approach for real-time CAC applications. We derive the transient outage probability as the QoS measure using the Chernoff bound and the refuted large deviation approximation. Numerical results show that the predictive CAC is a promising approach for the multicell CDMA systems.

  • Mobile communication systems are required not only to support high-data-rate transmissions in favorable channel conditions but also to be able to tolerate hostile environments possibly encountered by cellular communications. This paper compares CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access), OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), and MC-CDMA(Multi-Carrier CDMA)with inaccurate channel estimates and low SNR environments. The equations and simulation results show that the performance losses in CDMA systems due to imprecise channel estimates are not considerable while frequency-hopping of OFDM systems can result in more than l0dB SNR losses. Also, this paper show that frequency-spreading of MC-CDMA can be very helpful for channel compensation performances than frequency-hopping or time-spreading of OFDM.
