I use a common educational spectrographic device (SV2100R) in order to obtain astronomical spectra after inventing a new adaptor for telescopes. Experimental classes and learning projects in schools and public outreach are well established regarding imaging and photometry observations. However, experiments using astronomical spectrographs are rather hard to find because the procedures of spectral extraction and wavelength calibration is less convenient. SV2100R is a 1D CCD array and thus has the advantage of not requiring spectral extraction. In addition, basic wavelength calibration is preformed by the the provided software. It was adapted to a 12-inch reflecting telescope in the Korea Science Academy of KAIST in Busan and a spectrum of the bright object, Arcturus, was successfully obtained. This means one can provide educational programs on the topic of astronomical spectra. A few suggested projects are presented.
Since its installation on March 27th, 2018, the SAO 1-m telescope has been operating for about 5 months. We report first results of these observations in this presentation. Sample images were taken with a $4096{\times}4096$ CCD camera (Field of view of ${\sim}21{\times}21arcmin^2$) and their characteristics such as seeing value, and limiting magnitudes are presented. The best seeing value is 0.85 arcsecond on July $16^{th}$, 2018. We find that the 5 sigma detection limit is about 20 magnitude AB in B, V, R, I bands with about 10-20 min exposures. We will also briefly introduce the spectrum of a faint transient taken with the spectrograph also installed on the SAO 1-m telescope.

The results of the Crab pulsar observations with the photometrical MANIA (Multichannel Analysis of Nanosecond Intensity Alterations) complex at the 6-m telescope are presented. More than 12 millions photons in UBVR-bands simultaneously with time resolution of $10^{-7}s$ were detected. Using the original software for search for optical pulsar period, we obtained the light curves of the object with time resolution of about 3.3 ${\mu}s$. Their detailed analysis gives the spectral change during pulse and subpulse, the shape of the pulse peaks, which are plateaus (with the duration of about 50${\mu}s$ for the main pulse), limits for an amplitude of fine temporal (stochastic and regular) structure of pulse and sub pulse and the interpulse space intensity. The results of CCD-spectroscopy of the Crab pulsar show that its summarized spectrum is flat. There are no lines, neither emission nor absorbtion ones. Upper limit for line intensity or depth is $3.5\%$ with the confidence probability of $95\%$.
The 2001 Leonid meteor storm has been observed all over the world, and its most intense flux since the last few decades has caused great interest among both laymen and experts. Especially, its maximum hours occurred at dawn hours of Nov. 19 in the east Asia, during which moonless clear night at the Mt. Bohyun allowed us near perfect condition of observation. Observation was carried out in the period of 01:00∼05:40(KST), which include the predicted maximum hours, with all-sky camera installed for upper atmospheric airglow research. Tn this paper we analyze 68 all-sky images obtained in this period, which contain records of 172 meteors. Utilizing the zenith hourly rate(ZHR) of 3000 and magnitude distribution index of 2, which were reported to International Meteor Organization by visible observers in the east Asia, we estimate the limiting magnitude of about 3 for meteors detected in our all-sky images. We then derive magnitudes of 83 meteors with clear pixel brightness outlines among the initially detected 172 meteors by comparing with neighbor standard stars. Angular velocities of meteors needed for computing their passing times over an all-sky image are expressed with a simple formula of an angle between a meteor head and the Leonid radiant point. The derived magnitudes of 83 meteors are in the range of -6∼-1 magnitude, and its distribution shows a maximum new -3mag. The derived magnitudes are much smaller than the limiting magnitude inferred from the comparison with the result of naked-eye observations. The difference may be due to the characteristic difference between nearly instantaneuous naked-eye observations and CCD observations with a long exposure. We redetermine magnitudes of the meteors by adjusting a meteor lasting time to be consistent with the naked-eye observations. The relative distribution of the redetermined magnitudes, which has a maximum at 0 mag., resembles that of the magnitudes determined with the in-principle method. The relative distribution is quite different from ones that decrease monotonically with decreasing magnitudes for meteors(1∼6) sensitive to naked-eye observations. We conclude from the magnitude distribution of our all-sky observation that meteors brighter than about 0 mag., appeared more frequently during the 2001 Leonid maximum hours. The frequent appearance of bright meteors has significantly important implication for meteor research. We noted, however, considerably large uncertainties in magnitudes determined only by comparing standard stars due to the unknown lasting time of meteors and the non-linear sensitivity of all-sky camera.

Results of 7 nights of CCD VR photometry of the intermediate polar 1RXS J062518.2+733433 obtained at the Korean 1.8m telescope are reported. The corrected ephemeris for the orbital minimum is BJD (Orb.min) = 2453023.6159(42)+0.1966431(33) (E-1735). The corrected ephemeris for the spin maximum is BJD (spin max) = 2452893 78477 (10)+0.01374116815 (17) (E-15382) (cycle numbering corresponds to that of Staude et al.2003). The variations of the shape of the individual spin variations are highly correlated in V and R. The phase of the spin maximum is found to be dependent on the orbital phase. The corresponding semi-amplitude of sinusoidal variations of phase is $0.11{\pm}0.03.$ This new phenomenon is explained by the changing viewing conditions of the accreting magnetic white dwarf, and should be checked in further observations this star and for other intermediate polars. To avoid influence of this effect on the analysis of the long-term spin period variations, the runs of at least one orbital period are recommended. Results of time series analysis are presented in tables.

We present a by-product of our long term photometric monitoring of cataclysmic variables. 2MASS J18024395 +4003309 = VSX J180243.9 +400331 was discovered in the field of the intermediate polar V1323 Her observed using the Korean 1-m telescope located at Mt. Lemmon, USA. An analysis of the two-color VR CCD observations of this variable covers all the phase intervals for the first time. The light curves show this object can be classified as an Algol-type variable with tidally distorted components, and an asymmetry of the maxima (the O'Connell effect). The periodogram analysis confirms the cycle numbering of Andronov et al. (2012) and for the initial approximation, the ephemeris is used as follows: Min I. BJD = 2456074.4904+0.3348837E. For phenomenological modeling, we used the trigonometric polynomial approximation of statistically optimal degree, and a recent method "NAV" ("New Algol Variable") using local specific shapes for the eclipse. Methodological aspects and estimates of the physical parameters based on analysis of phenomenological parameters are presented. As results of our phenomenological model, we obtained for the inclination $i=90^{\circ}$, $M_1=0.745M_{\odot}$, $M_2=0.854M_{\odot}$, $M=M_1+M_2=1.599M_{\odot}$, the orbital separation $a=1.65{\cdot}10^9m=2.37R_{\odot}$ and relative radii $r_1=R_1/a=0.314$ and $r_2=R_2/a=0.360$. These estimates may be used as preliminary starting values for further modeling using extended physical models based on the Wilson & Devinney (1971) code and it's extensions

We present the characteristics of the Seoul National University 4k Camera (SNUCAM) and report its performance on the 1.5m telescope at the Maidanak observatory in Uzbekistan. SNUCAM is a CCD camera with a pixel scale of 0.266" in $4096{\times}4096$ format, covering $18.1'{\times}18.1'$ field of view on the 1.5m. The camera is currently equipped with Bessell UBVRI, $H{\alpha}$, SDSS ugriz, and Y-band filters, allowing us to carry out a variety of scientific programs ranging from exoplanet studies to survey of quasars at high redshift. We examine properties of SNUCAM such as the bias level and its temporal variation, the dark current, the readout noise, the gain, the linearity, the fringe patterns, the amplifier bias, and the bad pixels. From our observations, we also constructed the master fringe frames in I-, z-, and Y-band. We outline some of the current scientific programs being carried out with SNUCAM, and demonstrate that SNUCAM on the 1.5m can deliver excellent images that reach to the $5-{\sigma}$ detection limits of R~25.5 mag and z~22.7 mag in 1 hour total integration.

McDonald 2.1m Otto Struve Telescope is located in the Davis Mountains, 450 miles west of Austin, Texas. The telescope was built in 1938, but it is still in demand today. CQUEAN (Camera for QUasar in Early uNiverse) will be attached on this telescope and perform Y-band imaging observations. Dynamics study of the telescope shows that tracking errors are 0.1 arcsec/100sec in declination direction and 0.4 arcsec/100sec in R.A. direction. In order to allow a long exposure (> a few minutes) of a target field, we are making auto-guiding system for the 2.1m telescope. The auto-guiding system of CQUEAN will be connected with TCS of the telescope. The expected number of stars on the CCD field (2.97 square arcminutes) is about 1.2 stars which are brighter than magnitude 17.5 in 2.97 square arcminutes. For more effective observation, we plan to implement moving mechanism in guiding system so that guide CCD camera can see wider off-axis fields.

Enhancement effect of ultrasonification process on UV-protection and skin-whitening activities using Centella asiatica L. Urban extract was investigated. Cytotoxicity of the extracts measured on human skin fibroblast cells, CCD-986sk, and then, ultrasonification associated extracts showed 5~9% lower cytotoxicity then normal crude extracts on 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ of highest sample concentration. The associated extrats showed highest inhibition activity of hyaluronidase on 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ of concentration as 54.2%. Also, the associated extract reduced expression of MMP-1 on UV-irradiated CCD-986sk cells down to 100.2% from 136.1%, and revealed high inhibitory potency on tyrosinase as 74.6% by adding 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ of concentration. Ultrasonification associated extract showed strong inhibition effect of melanin production on Clone M-3 cells as 84.2% by adding 1.0 mg/$m{\ell}$ of concentration. From the preliminary observations, we considered that the extracts from C. asiatica could be potent natural materials for skin-whitening and anti-aging agent, and could enhance the activities by ultrasonification process.
To develop a whitening agent, cytotoxicity of the soluble collagen isolated from Todarodes pacificus (CIT) was evaluated. CIT tested for cytotoxicity on human dermal fibroblast (CCD-986sk) was exhibited very low cytotoxicity. Because tyrosinase is the key enzyme for melanin biosynthesis, the use of various tyrosinase inhibitors is a common practice for whitening purpose in cosmetics. Tyrosinase inhibitory activity and melanin production assay were measured to confirm the whitening effect. The inhibitory effect of MMP-1 in UV-irradiated human dermal fibroblast was also performed. CIT showed strong inhibition potency on tyrosinase by 51.5% at 0.2 mg/mL which increased the inhibition by increasing the concentration of CIT, and showed 69.1% inhibition at 1.0 mg/mL. CIT showed strong inhibition effect on melanin production with 82% at 1.0 mg/mL. The CIT also reduced about 76% expression of MMP-1 in UV-irradiated CCD-986sk cell at 1.0 mg/mL. From the preliminary observations, we suggest that the collagen isolated from CIT could be a potential source of natural skin-whitening and anti-aging agents for the photo-damaged skin.
