  • Most of flated scanners and digital cameras in prepress process utilize CCD technology. Device calibration and characterization process is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. ICC profiles for digital input devices encapsulated information relating the device values to CIELAB or CIEXYZ coordinates. The main purposes of this article is to evaluate some of the transformation methods based on ICC proposed device profiles and to propose optimal color transformation method for accurate color imaging in printing process.

  • In this paper, we studied fire sensing and position tracing system in fire region. The coordinates of fire position is communicated to fire suppression system immediately. And the fire is suppressed by this system effectively. For the purpose, the fire occurrence region images are extracted with two different CCD surveillance cameras and fire occurrence are sensed, I suggested a method to measure the fire occurrence position. It was able to be sensed early experiment result fire outbreak and, I was able to understand a fire outbreak position coordinate at the moment when a fire occurred and, I confirmed that I could accomplish warning official announcement and fire suppression in an auto.

  • Since recent production system becomes that of the small quantity, large volume with high quality production, accurate and high speed inspection system is required. In such situation, noncontact 3D measurement system which utilized CCD cameras is useful technique in terms of system cost, speed of data acquisition, measuring accuracy and application. However, it has low accuracy compared with contact 3D measurement system because of the camera distortion, non uniformity of laser distribution and so on. For those reasons, in this paper precision enhancement method is studied considering radial camera distortion, and laser distribution. A distortion correction method is applied even to the standard lens. The laser slit beam trajectory is determined by 3 method: based of the Gaussian function signal approximation, the median method, the center of gravity method and the peak point of the Gaussian function method.

The performance of the technique has been evaluated in the experiment carried out at Wolsung nuclear power plant in the overhaul period. The results show that localizations of thermal abnormalities on calandria reactor face can be estimated accurately.

  • It is very difficult to mechanize tomato harvesting because identifying a tomato partly covered with leaves and stalks is not easy. This research was conducted to develop tomato harvesting robot which can identify a target tomato, determine its three dimensional position, and harvest it in a limited time. Followings were major findings in this study. The first visual system of the harvesting robot was composed of two CCD cameras, however, this could not detect tomatoes which are not seen on the view finder of the camera especially those partly covered by leaves or stalks. The second visual device, combined with two CCD cameras and pan/tilt procedures was designed to minimize the positioning errors within ${\pm}10mm$, but this is still not enough to detect tomatoes partly covered with leaves etc. Finally, laser distance detector was added to the visual system that could reduce the position detecting errors within 10mm in X-Y direction and 5mm in Z direction for the partly covered tomatoes.

  • This study aims to design and implement the finger gesture recognizing system that automatically recognizes finger gestures input through a camera and controls the computer. Common CCD cameras were redesigned as infrared light cameras to acquire the images. The recorded images go through the pre-process to find the hand features, the finger gestures are read accordingly, and an event takes place for the follow-up mouse controlling and presentation, and finally the way to control computers is suggested. The finger gesture recognizing system presented in this study has been verified as the next-generation interface to replace the mouse and keyboard for the future information-based units.

  • The development of still video CCD cameras has simplified dramatically the digital imaging process. Still video cameras have flexibility that allows digital image acquisition and on-board image storage without being connected to a computer. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the performance of digital close-range photogrammetric system using the still video camera for dimensional inspection and structural monitoring being required in various industries. Some sub-pixel measurement techniques, which is indispensable for digital image measurement, were suggested. The author carried out the self-calibration of a high resolution DCS420 still video camera and then test application of a structure. The self-calibrating bundle adjustments resulted in object space accuracies which exceed 1 :46,000. It is ascertained that this digital close-range photogrammetric system has high accuracy potential and task effectiveness for industrial applications.

  • The needs of 3-D data have been increasing for various applications like visualization, 3-D modeling, planning and management as well as entertainment. Mobile mapping has become a quick and practical means for acquiring necessary 3-D data for above-mentioned applications. A mobile mapping system mainly consists of two main components, viz. data acquisition devices and positioning devices. The data acquisition devices consist of CCD cameras or/and laser scanners. The positioning devices consist of GPS, INS, Odometer (shaft encoder) and some other referencing devices. The overall accuracy of mobile mapping system depends on the accuracy of positioning devices and their integrated output. Though, GPS is the main input device for the position information, the signal is not available for the computation of position all the times in urban area. The GPS satellites are normally obstructed by high-rise buildings. Thus it is very important to understand the accuracy of such a system in different environments and means to solve such problems. We have developed a mobile mapping system called VLMS (Vehicle-borne Laser Mapping System), which consists of CCD Cameras, Laser scanners, GPS, INS and Odometer. In this paper, we will present and discuss the accuracy of this system with data acquired in different environments (open area, urban area, tunnel, express way etc) by analyzing the data with respect to other existing digital data.

  • Zoom lenses CCD(Charge Coupled Device) cameras have many desirable features but appear to be geometrically unstable and diffcult to calibrate. It is well blown that the zooming camera parameters change with zoom lens position. This paper presents a comparative study of two approaches, namely, DLT(Direct Linear Transformation) introduced by Abdel-Aziz and Karara and the model proposed by Tsai, to evaluate the camera parameters of zoom lenses CCD camera and 3D positioning accuracy. As a result, the accuracy for 3D positioning using Tsai and DLT model is similar in both methods when the set of GCPs and the object are arranged in the same space. However, Tsai model is more stable than DLT in the case that the object is apart from the set of GCPs. Also, the further study for the parameters optimization of conventional DLT is needed to improve accuracy for 3D positioning.
