  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of two types of coloring agents and the number of application on the color of zirconia. Materials and methods: Monolithic zirconia specimens ($15.7mm{\times}15.7mm{\times}2.0mm$) (n = 33) was prepared and divided into 11 groups. Each experimental group was coded as a1-a5, w1-w5 according to the type of coloring agent and number of application. Specimens with no coloring agent applied were set as control group. The color difference of specimen was measured by using double-beam spectrophotometer, and calculated color difference (${{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$), translucency parameter (TP). All data was analyzed with two-way ANOVA, multiple comparison $Sch{\acute{e}}ffe$ test, Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis. Results: As the number of application increased, values of $CIE\;L^*$ was decreased, but values of $CIE\;b^*$ was increased in both coloring agents. However, there was no significant difference on values of translucency parameter. The color difference range of each group was ${0.87{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$ to ${9.43{\Delta}E^*}_{ab}$. Conclusion: In this study, type of coloring agent and the number of application did not affect the color difference of zirconia.

  • Recently, the need for esthetic results has increased the interest for all-ceramic crown prosthesis. Furthermore, the development of zirconium core via CAD/CAM system has allowed the all ceramic restorations to be applied to almost all fixed prosthesis situations. But, the increased strength has been reported to increase in proportion with the bond strength of cement, and recently, the tribochemical system which increases the bond strength through, silica coating and silanization has been introduced. The purpose of this study was to compare the $Rocatec^{TM}$ system and $CoJet^{TM}$ system with the traditional acid etching and silanization method of the irconium based ceramic. The surface character was observed via SEM(X2000), and the bond strength with the resin cement were measured. 50 In-Ceram Zirconia (Adens, Korea) discs were fabricated and embedded in resin, group 1 was treated with glass-bead blasting and cleaning, group 2 was treated with 20% HF for 10 minutes and silanized, group 3 was treated with the $Rocatec^{TM}$ system, and group 4 was treated with the $CoJet^{TM}$ system. Each group was comprised of 10 specimens. The specimens were cemented to a $3mm{\times}5mm$ resin block with Super-Bond C&B. The shear bond strength was measured with the $Instron^{(R)}$ 8871 at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The results were as follows. 1. According to SEM results, there were little difference between group 1 & group 2, but in group 3 and 4, silica coating was detected and there was increase in surface roughness. 2. The shear bond strength decreased in the order of group 3(46.28MPa), group 4(42.04MPa), group 2(31.56MPa), and group 1(27.46MPa). 3. There was significant differnce between group 1&2 and group 3&4(p<0.05). From the results above, it can be considered that the conventional method of acid etching and silane treatment cannot increase the bond strength with resin cements, and that by applying the tribochemical system of $Rocatec^{TM}$ system and $CoJet^{TM}$ system, we can achieve a stronger all ceramic restoration. Further studies on surface treatments to increase the bond strength are thought to be needed.

  • This study was to evaluate the stress distributions of prefabricated, customized abutments and fixtures according to their material and shape by three-dimensional finite element analysis. And to investigate the fatigue life and fracture characteristics. Mandibular models were fabricated by reconstruction of the CT scan of patients with normal occlusion. A total of six finite element models were designed, a load of 100 N was applied on the buccal cusps vertically, and 30 degree obliquely. 10 specimens each were fabricated for the more clinically widely used 4 type abutments and were loaded according to ISO 14801. Differences in stress distribution patterns were not found according to the materials of the abutments and fixtures. But a slight difference in the stress level was detected. Customized abutment groups showed lower crown stress levels. One-piece zirconia implant showed the lowest bone stress levels. In the fatigue test, highest values were measured in group 7. Prefabricated abutments showed less variation of fatigue life (P<0.05). Use of customized abutments can improve the fracture resistance of restorations. Especially, use of customized zirconia abutments reinforced by titanium screw connecting parts is recommended.

  • The present study investigated the influences of various abutment teeth shapes (maxillary right canine, pre-molar, molar) on the marginal adaptation of computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing-fabricated zirconia core. In vitro adaptation of zirconia cores manufactured by three different abutments were evaluated. Thirty zirconia cores were made per each models and the adaptation was evaluated through a silicone replica technique. The measurement of the adaptation was carried out using digital microscope. The mean and standard deviation of each reference point were analyzed using the one-way (ANOVA) and Tukey's honestly significant difference tests (${\alpha}=0.05$). The overall marginal fits of the zirconia cores were as follows: canine: $47.59{\mu}m$, pre-molar: $43.74{\mu}m$, molar: $40.36{\mu}m$. They were no statistically significant differences between groups for adaptation (p>0.05). This confirmed that the type of abutment teeth used does not determine the precision of fit of zirconia core.

  • Nowadays the widely used media in architecture include visualizations, animations and three-dimensional models. 3D digital methods using active CAM(Computer Aided Manufacturing) and CNC(Computerized Numerical Control) imaging have been developed for accurate shape and 3D measurements in freeform buildings. In contrast to a conventional building using auto CAD system and others, the proposed digital optimization method is based on a combination of 3D numerical data and parametric 3D model for design and construction. The objective of this paper is therefore to present digital optimization process for constructability of freeform building. The method can be useful in the effective implementation of an error-proofing process of freeform building during design and construction phase. 3D digital coordinate data can be used effectively to identify correct size of structural and finish members and installation location of each members in construction field. In addition, architects, engineers and contractors can evaluate design, materials, constructability and identify error-proofing opportunities. Other project participants can also include representatives from all levels of management, departments as well as workers and key subcontractors' personnel, if necessary. The 3D digital optimization process is therefore appropriate to serious variations in freeform shape. For future study, the developed digital optimization method is necessary to be carried out to verify the robustness and accuracy for constructability in construction field.

  • Statement of problem: The titanium has advantages of a high biocompatibility, a corrosion resistence, low density, and cheep price, so it is focused as a substituted alloy But it is quite difficult to cast with the tranditional method due to the high melting point, reacivity with element at, elevated temperature. By using the CAD-CAM system for the crown construction, it is possible to reduce the errors while proceeding the wax-up, investing, and casting procedure Purpose: The purposes of this study were to measure the marginal adaptation of the casting titanium coping and machine-milled titanium coping according to the casting methods and the marginal configurations. Material and method: The marginal configurations were used chamfer shoulder, and beveled shoulder. The total 30 copings were used, and these are divided into 6 groups according to the manufacturing method and marginal configuration. The gap between margin of the model and the restoration was measured with 3-dimensional measuring microscope. Results: The following results were obtained; 1. casting gold coping demonstrated the best marginal seal, followed by casting titanium coping finally machine-milled titanium copings. 2. In casting titanium coping, chamfer demonstrated the best marginal seal, followed by shoulder and beveled shoulder. There was no significantly difference in shoulder and beveled shoulder. But all margin form has clinically acceptable 3. In machine-milled titanium copings, chamfer demonstrated the best marginal seal, followed by shoulder and beveled shoulder. Beveled shoulder show large and uneven marginal gap Conclusions: Above result revealed that marginal adaptation of the titanim coping is avail able in the clinical range, it can be used as an alternative metal and it is prefered especially in chamfer or shoulder margin during implant superstructure fabrication. But there should be more research on machine-milled titanium in order to use it in the clinics.

  • With the breakthrough development of computing environment, the design phases have been changed a lot nowadays. In the case of prior phases of transportation design such as cars and forklift-trucks design, designers have depended on surveys and 2D line drawings for fixing a product layout and extracting ergonomic data. In this method, designers don't meet only the problem of reliability of measuring data but also, the problems of unknown situation of operators' fatigue and comfort in work situation. In these methods, it has much less creditability to have a 2D human model to check the real world motion due to the limitation of the 3 Dimension. Even though with a 2D human model, perfect layout is determined, it is still difficult to measure about comfort and fatigue for a user because it measuring an analysing method is static. The development of computer hardware and software have not only changed the flow in the social-wide range but also immerged design into Virtual Environment. In conventional design method, visualization and data transferring have been the main issues but, in virtual environment, determining of design layout and analysing ergonomic data with sophisticated feeling about comfort and fatigue are possible by using 3D virtual human. In this study, the general characteristics of virtual environment was discussed and the possibility of digital process of design was treated. For these studies, layout design for forklift-trucks was tested. Eventually, the merits of each design phase applied virtual environment are discussed.

  • This study was performed to measure the accuracy of different gypsum materials by a white light dental scanner. A master model with the prepared lower full arch tooth was used. The type IV and scannable stone were used for 20 stone casts (10 casts each) duplicated a master model of mandible. The distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed by the Delcam $Copycad^{(R)}$ (Delcam Plc, UK) 3D graphic software. The t-student test for paired samples were used for statistical analysis. The mean differences to master model for type IV stone and scannable stone model were 0.29~0.56 mm, and 0.17~0.35 mm, respectively. There were statistical differences in dimensional accuracy for full arch impression between the master model and type IV/scannable stone (p<0.05). Two different gypsum materials showed clinically acceptable accuracies of full arch digital impression produced by them. Besides, in both gypsum materials, the differences to the master model detected appear to provide enough accuracy for clinical application.
