This study explored the effect of dietary levels of Na and Ca on spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). SHR were randomly divided into 5 groups and fed a high fat/cholesterol diet containing three levels of Na (0.05, 0.1, 1.5%) and Ca (0.1, 0.5, 1.5%) for 9 weeks. Body weight gain was not influenced by dietary intake but water intake significantly increased in high Na supplementation. Systolic blood pressure was not influenced by dietary Na and Ca levels but was decreased by dietary low Na/high Ca levels at 9 weeks. Angiotensin-II level was affected by dietary Na level but not by Ca levels. Plasma Ca, Mg, K and Na levels were in the normal range regardless of dietary Na and Ca levels. Weight, and K and Na contents of the heart and kidney were not significantly different among those with different dietary Na and Ca levels. Ca and Mg contents of the heart and kidney were significantly higher in the normal Na/normal Ca group. Ca and Mg in the feces were higher in those with high Ca intake. Na in the feces was higher in those with high Na intake. Therefore, Na and Ca had different mechanisms in the hypertension/hyperlipidemia models, respectively. And we suggested that Mg must be supplemented when Ca intake was high because Mg excretion was increased by Ca supplementation.

One-dimensional 3-neighborhood Cellular Automata (CA)-based pseudo-random number generators are widely applied in generating test patterns to evaluate system performance and generating key sequence generators in cryptographic systems. In this paper, in order to design a CA-based key sequence generator that can generate more complex and confusing sequences, we study a one-dimensional symmetric 5-neighborhood CA that expands to five neighbors affecting the state transition of each cell. In particular, we propose an n-cell one-dimensional symmetric 5-neighborhood CA synthesis algorithm using the algebraic method that uses the Krylov matrix and the one-dimensional 90/150 CA synthesis algorithm proposed by Cho et al. [6].
IQ motif-containing GTPase-activating proteins (IQGAPs), which are well-known $Ca^{2+}$-independent calmodulin (CaM) binding proteins, are involved in various cellular functions such as cell proliferation, carcinogenesis and cell migration. The IQGAP3 similar to IQGAP1 has four repeated IQ motifs, which are crucial for CaM binding. It has been recently shown that all four IQ motifs of the IQGAP1 could bind to CaM, while not clear the binding of four IQ motifs of the IQGAP3. In this study, we examined the binding between CaM and each IQ motif of IQGAP3. As a result, we found that IQ2 and IQ3, but not IQ1 and IQ4, have a $Ca^{2+}$-independent CaM binding activity. We also found that IQ(3.5-4.4) on the IQGAP3 has $Ca^{2+}$-dependent CaM binding activity as similar with that of IQGAP1. This finding indicates that IQ motifs of the IQGAP3 plays a dynamic role via different interaction of IQ motifs with $Ca^{2+}$/CaM or apoCaM.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of calcium (Ca) levels in weanling pigs (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc). In experiment 1, one hundred and eighty weanling pigs were randomly allotted to one of the three treatments. The treatments were low (Ca 0.60% in phase 1 and 0.50% in phase 2), standard (Ca 0.72% in phase 1 and 0.66% in phase 2), and high (Ca 0.84% in phase 1 and 0.72% in phase 2). In experiment 2, hundred and forty weanling pigs were randomly assigned to one of four treatments differing in Ca levels (high and low) and sources (CaCl2 and CaCO3) in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement. There were 10 pigs per replicate in both experiments, with 6 replicates in each treatment, and they were conducted in two phases (phase 1, days 0-14; phase 2, days 15-28). In experiment 1, body weight (BW), average daily gain (ADG), and growth to feed ratio (G/F) increased as the Ca level decreased (p < 0.05). P digestibility was higher in the low-Ca diet group than in the high-Ca diet group (p <0.05). In experiment 2, the final BW, ADG, and G/F increased in the CaCl2 diet group compared with the case in the CaCO3 diet group (p < 0.05). The digestibility of crude protein (CP), Ca, and P was higher in the CaCl2 diet group than in the CaCO3 diet group (p < 0.05). Cl- levels were higher in the CaCl2 diet group than in the CaCO3 diet group (p < 0.05). The bicarbonate (HCO3-), base excess (BE), and electrolyte balance (EB) levels were lower in the CaCl2 diet group than in the CaCO3 diet group (p < 0.05). Hematocrit increased as the Ca level decreased (p < 0.05). The HCO3- interacted with the Ca sources and thus, affected the Ca levels (p < 0.05). Bone ash, Ca, and P were downregulated in the low-Ca diet group compared with the case in the high-Ca diet group. Overall, the low dietary Ca supplementation led to greater growth performance. Furthermore, CaCl2 appeared to be a better Ca source than CaCO3 because of the greater digestibility of CP, Ca, and P, and improved EB.

Cellular automata (CA) have been applied to effective cryptographic system design. CA is superior in randomness to LFSR due to the fact that its state is updated simultaneously by local interaction. To apply these CAs to the cryptosystem, a study has been performed how to synthesize CA corresponding to given polynomials. In this paper, we analyze the recurrence relations of the characteristic polynomial of the 90 UCA and the characteristic polynomial of the 90/150 CA whose transition rule is <$00{\cdots}001$>. And we synthesize the 90/150 CA corresponding to the trinomials $x^{2^n}+x+1(n{\geq}2)$ satisfying f(x)=f(x+1) using the 90 UCA transition rule blocks and the special transition rule block. We also analyze the properties of the irreducible factors of trinomials $x^{2^n}+x+1$ and propose a 90/150 CA synthesis algorithm corresponding to $x^{2^n}+x^{2^m}+1(n{\geq}2,n-m{\geq}2)$.

CaO was prepared by calcining for oyster shells using a microwave kiln. It was analyzed to Ca(OH)2 synthed on hydration reaction from prepared CaO. The synthesized Ca(OH)2 was formulated as an external water paint. Oyster shells (325 mesh, 43 ㎛) were decarbonized for (a) 950 ℃/1 hr and (b) 1,150 ℃/1 hr to prepare CaO. In the calcination condition of (a), CaO was 56.7 wt%, and in the calcination condition of (b), CaO was 100 wt%. To compare CaO by calcination of oyster shells with that of limestone, limestone (25~30 mm) was decarbonized at 950 ℃/1 hr to prepare CaO, and as a result of the analysis(XRD), it was analyzed as CaO 100 wt%. CaO was prepared under the calcining conditions of oyster shells (b) 1,150 ℃/1 hr, and Ca(OH)2 was synthesized through hydration. Hydration conditions of the prepared CaO were (a) CaO : H2O(100 g : 200 g) and (b) CaO : H2O(100 g : 400 g). As a result of the hydration reaction, it was confirmed as low reactivity. 100 wt% of Ca(OH)2 was synthesized. In particular, Ca(OH)2 synthesized under the hydration condition of (a) was analyzed in a plate shape. An external water paint was formulated with Ca(OH)2 synthesized from oyster shells as the main component. When 15 items of the external water paint standard specification (KS M 6010) were analyzed, it was confirmed that all other criteria were satisfied except for freezing stability.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ concentration in fusion medium on the fusion, nuclear morphology and the development of bovine somatic cell nuclear transfer embryos. Bovine skin cells were transferred into an enucleated oocyte and fused with cytoplasm in the fusion medium containing with 0.05 to 1.0 mM Cacl$_2$. Nuclear transfer embryos were activated with a combination of A23187 and cycloheximide. Nuclear transfer embryos were fixed at 3 h after fusion or cultured for 7 ~8 days. Fusion rate was significantly (P<0.01) increased by increasing the $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations in the fusion medium from 0.05 mM (56.6%) to 0.5 mM (50.1%) and 1.0 mM (84.3%). More than 80% of reconstituted embryos underwent premature chromosome condensation (PCC) with 0.05, 0.1 mM CaCl$_2$, whereas 54.5% and 59.3% of embryos formed pronucleus (PN) directly without PCC in the 0.5 and 1.0 mM CaCl$_2$, groups. Blastocyst formation rates were significantly (P<0.05) different between 0.1 mM and 1.0 mM CaCl$_2$groups. From the present result, it is suggested that the elevated $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations in fusion medium can enhance the fusion and blastocyst formation rates of bovine nuclear transfer embryos.bryos.
This study was conducted to investigate the bioavailability of calcium derived from starfish as a new calcium source. Four-week old Sprague-Dawley female rats were divided 6 groups. The rats were received experimental diets containing two kinds of Ca sources, CaCO₃ or starfish, and three levels of Ca, low (0.1 %), medium (0.5%) and high (1.0%), respectively, for 6 weeks. The parameters which related to Ca bioavailability were measured : Serum Ca concentration, Alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and GOT activities ; tissue Ca contents, bone dimension and Ca, P, Mg contents; Ca retention and apparent absorption. Starfish Ca-fed rats did not show any difference from CaCO₃-fed rats in terms of growth, food intake and FER. Serum Ca, ALP and GOT activities as well as tissue Ca contents were not different between CaCO₃- and starfish Ca-fed groups. Although dimension of femur and lumbar was not different between CaCO₃- and starfish Ca-fed rats, ash content was high in starfish Ca-fed rats. Ca and P contents of femur and lumbar were not different between both groups. Starfish Ca-fed groups showed higher Mg contents than CaCO₃-fed groups in both femur and lumbar. Ca absorption rate and retention rate were significantly higher in starfish Ca-fed rats. These results indicate that Ca derived starfish did not show any negative effect on growth and Ca metabolism of rats compared to calcium carbonate. Starfish Ca can be recommended as a good Ca source on the basis of higher Ca absorption and bioavailability.
We characterized a full-length cDNA of CaCOP1 from pepper. Phylogenetic analysis based on the deduced amino acid sequence of CaCOP1 cDNA revealed high sequence similarity to the COP1 gene in Oryza sativa (84% identity). CaCOP1 shares high sequence identity with regulatory protein in Arabidopsis (84%), constitutively photomorphogenic 1 protein in Pisum sativum (81%) and COP1 homolog in Lycopersicon esculentum (79%). CaCOP1 gene exists single copy in the chili pepper genome. Expression of CaCOP1 was reduced in response to inoculation of non-host pathogens. The expression of this gene under abiotic and oxidative stresses was investigated, including 200 mM NaCl, 200 mM mannitol, cold ($4^{\circ}C$), 100 ${\mu}M$ abscisic acid (ABA), and 10 mM hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$). CaCOP1 was induced significantly 3 h after low temperature treatment but not by dehydration or high salinity. Moreover, CaCOP1 was not induced by plant hormone ABA. These observations suggest that CaCOP1 gene plays a role in abiotic stress and may be belong to ABA-independent regulation system.
