  • South Korea has many landslides caused by heavy rains during summer time recently and the landslides continue to cause damages in many places. These landslides occur repeatedly each year, and the frequency of landslides is expected to increase in the coming future due to dramatic global climate change. In Korea, 81.5% of the population is living in urban areas and about 1,055 million people are living in Seoul. In 2011, the landslide that occurred in Seocho-dong killed 18 people and about 9% of Seoul's area is under the same land conditions as Seocho-dong. Even the size of landslide occurred in a city is small, but it is more likely to cause a big disaster because of a greater population density in the city. So far, the effort has been made to identify landslide vulnerability and causes, but now, the new dem and arises for the prediction study about the areal extent of disaster area in case of landslides. In this study, the diffusion model of the landslide disaster area was established based on Cellular Automata(CA) to analyze the physical diffusion forms of landslide. This study compared the accuracy with the Seocho-dong landslide case, which occurred in July 2011, applying the SCIDDICA model and the CAESAR model. The SCIDDICA model involves the following variables, such as the movement rules and the topographical obstacles, and the CAESAR model is also applied to this process to simulate the changes of deposition and erosion.

  • The artificial rain (pH 4.0, pH 5.6 and pH 6.85) and weathering simulation test are applied in dolomitic marble for the prediction of deterioration of the stone monuments constructed with carbonate rock by acid rain. pH of the applied rain all increase to about neutral pH after reaction of marble. The contents of $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ have increased more than twofold in two acid rain and deionized neutral rain after reaction of marble. The weight of marble is expected to decrease $0.00037kg/m^2$ each test cycle by pH 4.0 rain. This weight reduction rate of marble is 1.4 and 3.1 times more in pH 5.6 and pH 6.85 rain respectively, and 3.7 times more in only artificial weathering test. The compressive strength of marble is expected to decrease 0.2468, 0.1791 and $0.1280kg/m^2$ per test cycle with pH 4.0, pH 5.6 and pH 6.85 rain, respectively. These results mean that more acidic rain more enfeeble the strength of marble. Dolomite and small amount of calcite are precipitated in the rains after reaction of marble.

  • The interest on the recovery of thermal energy using the waste has been rising to solve the problems of continuous increase of waste generation and the depletion of the fossil fuel recently. The incineration has been used most popularly as a treatment process of the waste for the energy recovery. However, it is expected that incineration and design cost will increase in the treatment of air contaminant emitted from incinerator. This research has simulated the actual incinerator and the flue gas treatment system using the Aspen plus which is the software to simulate the chemical process. The incineration process is composed of the 1st and 2nd combustor to burn the waste, SNCR process to reduce the $NO_x$ using the urea, and the steam generation process to save the energy during incineration. The $Ca(OH)_2$ slurry was used as an acid gas (HCl, $SO_2$) treatment materials and the removal efficiency for the products from the neutralization of acid gas in SDA and combustion ash was simulated at the bag filter. The simulation result has been corresponded with the treatment efficiency of emitted gas from the actual industrial waste incinerator and it is presumed to be used to forecast the efficiencies of flue gas treatment system in the future.

  • This driving simulation study examined the effect of driver's state driving anger(SDA) on collision avoidance(CA) and situation awareness(SA), as well as the moderating effect of driver's positive and negative affect(PA and NA) on the relationship between the driver's SDA and SA. The results showed the followings. First, high SDA group collided with the leading vehicle more frequently than low SDA group. Second, neither the driver's trait driving anger(TDA) nor PA/NA yielded significant changes in SA after SDA was induced. Third, high SDA tended to lower SA but this tendency was observed only when the driver's NA was high. These results suggested that SDA than TDA is a significant deteriorating factor of the driver's SA, and more importantly, SDA should be considered with other affect-relating variable such as NA in explaining the effect of SDA on driver's SA and CA.

  • When Handoff occurs at wireless network, existing AP search chooses one of various APs according to signal strength information. However, IEEE 802.11 uses Medium Access method with CSMA/CA that competes to obtain a channel by sharing medium. Therefore, network performance is heavily affected by the number of nodes and network congestion aside from signal strength. This scheme presented an additional AP selection indicator and a new handoff algorithm to realize handoff guaranteeing the network performance of mobile node in a process selecting new AP. This indicator is includes a handoff cost function reflecting the network information of mobile node, and the mobile node made handoff guaranteeing the network performance using network information possible by using this. also we classified the nodes into high-speed node and low-speed node. Then, when Handoff occurs, high-speed node was made itself choose AP by signal strength information. We also made the low-speed node choose its AP by using AP network information which is applied area. Hence, we demonstrate through simulation that gets an improvement in performance, even in the wireless network which many users concurrently access to, and it has considerable effects on aspects of resources and network management by distribution of users.

  • In this paper, we consider a WDM based metro ring connecting broadband access networks by using FT-TR (Fixed Transmitter-Tunable Receiver) type access nodes and a new MAC protocol for fair transmission is proposed. The basic channel access scheme is CSMA/CA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance) and the transferred optical slot is changed to be empty slot by SS(Source-Stripping) which drops a packet from ring-rotated slot. This empty slot can be either used to send head-of-line packet in buffer or transmitted to next access node. In former cases, there is the improvement of network throughput, but latter case leads unfairness problem of transmission. Thus the proposed MAC protocol exploits the advantages form tow cases. It gives downstream access nodes chance to use empty slots and limits the unconditional usage of empty slots at upstream access nodes with probability as called p-Persistent MAC protocol. We use a numerical analysis to evaluate bandwidth efficiency and maximum node throughput and compares simulation results in terms of node throughput, fairness factor, transfer delay depending on probability. Under two different FT-TR type architectures for metro ring network the proposed MAC protocol is evaluated and compared.

  • The adsorption characteristics of H$_2$S, NH$_3$and $CH_3$SH on the graphite carbon have been investigated using Grand Canonical Monte Carlo(GCMC) method with universal force field (UFF) and dreiding force field. Most of the activated carbons used in vapor phase adsorption have the micropore of 6$\AA$ to 20$\AA$ and the specific surface area of ca. 1000 m$^2$/g, as the result of $N_2$ adsorption by BET method. For the more efficient comparison, the activated carbons have been manipulated with different pore sizes. The adsorption characteristics of H$_2$S, NH$_3$and $CH_3$SH have been considered at various temperatures and pressures. The adsorption amount using Dreiding force field is predicted to be lower than that using UFF. As the temperature is going to high, the adsorption amount of adsorbates is decreased due to their vaporization. Considering the pore size effect, the adsorption characteristic depends on the adsorbate size, polarity and interaction between adsorbates, etc. At all cases employed in this study, NH$_3$ is barely adsorbed and $CH_3$SH is preferentially adsorbed on the graphite carbon. Our theoretical result is qualitatively good agreement with the experimental observation. However, there are some quantitative discrepancies depending on the functional groups and pore size distribution on the real activated carbons used in experiment.

  • This study aims to suggest a methodology of localizing and calibrating parameters, such as acceleration, deceleration, and lane changing which are the basis of car following model in interrupted traffic flow to overcome the limitation of origin and destination based transportation simulation and to verify the application of activity-based model for use in Korean roadway condition in a large scale area or a city. Especially, we figured out that a proper cell size reflecting Korean traffic conditions is 1.0m rather than 7.5m which is default size and a methodology of tracking vehicle behavior characteristics through tracking vehicle ID is suggested on this study. In addition, vehicle running characteristics in real interrupted traffic flow is analyzed through subdividing vehicle types and updating vehicle type ratio. For verification of suggested model, some portion of Dalgubyul-ro in the Daegu city is tested, and the possibility of realization of interrupted traffic flow in simulation is studied.

  • Soil aggregation begins with flocculation of clay particles triggered by interfacial reactions of polyvalent cation such as Ca2+ and Fe3+, and they are also known as important elements to control the mobility of arsenic in soil environment. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of CMDS (coal mine drainage sludge) for soil loss reduction and stabilization of arsenic-contaminated soil in a 37% sloped farmland under rainfall simulation. The amount of soil loss decreased by 43% when CMDS was applied, and this result was not significantly different from the case of limestone application, which yielded 46% decrease of soil loss. However, the relative amount of dispersed clay particles in the sediment CMDS-applied soil was 10% lower than that of limestone-applied soil, suggesting CMDS is more effective than limestone in inducing soil aggregation. The concentrations of bioavailable arsenic in CMDS amended soil decreased by 46%~78%, which was lower than the amount in limestone amended soil. Therefore, CMDS can be used as an effective amendment material to reduce soil loss and stabilize arsenic in sloped farmland areas.

  • In the present work, untreated Iraqi sand with grain sizes varied between 100 and 200 ㎛ was used to produce a colored glass sample that has shielding features against the low gamma-ray energy. Therefore, a weight of 70-60 wt % sand was mixed with 9-14 wt% B2O3, 8-10 wt% Na2O, 4-6 wt% of CaO, 3-6 wt% Al2O3, in addition to 0.3% of Co2O3. After melting and annealing the glass sample, the X-ray diffraction spectrometry was applied to affirm the amorphous phase of the fabricated glass samples. Moreover, the X-ray dispersive energy spectrometry was used to measure the chemical composition, and the MH-300A densimeter was applied to measure the fabricated sample's density. The Makishima-Makinzie model was applied to predict the mechanical properties of the fabricated glass. Besides, the Monte Carlo simulation was used to estimate the fabricated glass sample's radiation shielding capacity in the low-energy region between 22.1 and 160.6 keV. Therefore, the simulated linear attenuation coefficient changed between 10.725 and 0.484 cm-1, raising the gamma-ray energy between 22.1 and 160.6 keV. Also, other shielding parameters such as a half-value layer, pure lead equivalent thickness, and buildup factors were calculated.
