To study the effects of the age and the dietary protein content on Ca metabolism male rats of 1 month 6 month 12 month of age were fed experimental diets containing 5%, 15% or 50% casein for 4 weeks. Food and ca intake were higher in old rats and in high protein groups. The weight ash and Ca contents of femur and tibia were higher in old rats. The higher dietary protein level resulted in higher skeletal weigh ash and Ca contents. But high protein diet(50% casein) lead to reduced bone mineral density(ash/dry bone weight) and Ca density(Ca/dry bone weight) in 1 month old rats. Low protein diet(5% casein) on the other hand reduced the bone growth even though the bone density was higher in this group. The ill effect of low protein diet was not evident in 12 month old rats. Glomerular filteration rate(GFR) and urinary Ca excretionincreased with age and with dietary protein level especially in 12 month old rats. Serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone(iPTH) level tended to be higher in aged rats but was not affected by dietary protein level except 1 month old rats where 50% protein group showed significantly higher value. This study showed that the dietary protein level seemed to have different effect on Ca metabo-lism in rats of different age., The low bone density in the high protein group of growing rats may be due to the higher iPTH level and increased urinary Ca. The dietary protein level however had no effects on the bone composition in aged rats even though the higher urinary Ca excretion. In conclusion this study suggests that high protein intake from young may lead to less peak bone mass and to increase the bone loss in later years, which would increase the risk for osteporosis.
Using the current-applied pressure-assisted (CAPk) process, we could obtain fully dense isotropic and anisotropic NdFeB magnets from rapidly quenched MQP-A powder. The Nd content is found to play an important role during the current applied (CA)-pressing and CA-deformation processes. The $(BH)_max$ of CA-pressed and CA-deformed magnets are 131 kJ/$m^3$ (16.5 MGOe) and 352 kJ/$m^3$(44.2 MGOe), respectively. The change in texture of CA-deformed anisotropic NdFeB magnets with thickness reduction was investigated by pole figures and the (006) texture was found to increase with greater thickness reductions. As the thickness reduction increases from 50% to 60% to 80%, $W_50$ (the average angle of the contour with 50% intensity) decreases from $76^\circ$to $62.5^\circ$to $17^\circ$.
The solubility and the physicochemical property (refractive index) in the NaCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2$-$H_2O$ systems were determined at $50^{\circ}C$ and the phase diagrams and the diagrams of physicochemical property vs composition were plotted. One invariant point, two univariant curves, and two crystallization zones, corresponding to sodium Chloride (or potassium chloride), dihydrate ($CaCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$) showed up in the phase diagrams of the ternary systems. The mixing parameters ${\theta}_{M,Ca}$ and ${\Psi}_{M,Ca,Cl}$ (M = Na or K) and equilibrium constant $K_{sp}$ were evaluated in NaCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ and KCl-$CaCl_2-H_2O$ systems by least-squares optimization procedure, in which the single-salt Pitzer parameters of NaCl, KCl and $CaCl_2$${\beta}^{(0)}$, ${\beta}^{(1)}$, ${\beta}^{(2)}$ and $C^{\Phi}$ were directly calculated from the literature. The results obtained were in good agreement with the experimental data.

We synthesized a series of $CaS_{1-x}Se_x:Eu$ red-emitting phosphors for application in phosphor-converted three-band white light emitting diode(LED). The photoluminescence and structural properties of $CaS_{1-x}Se_x:Eu$ were examined. The $CaS_{1-x}Se_x:Eu$ phosphors have a strong absorption at 455 nm, which is the emission wavelength of a blue LED. CaS:Eu has a red omission peak at 651 nm due to the $4f^65d^1(T_{2g}){\rightarrow}4f^7(^8S_{7/2})$ transition of the $Eu^{2+}$. The emission peak of $CaS_{1-x}Se_x:Eu$ is shifted from 651 to 598 nm with increasing Se content. $CaS_{1-x}Se_x:Eu$ can be used as wavelength-tunable red-emitting phosphors pumped by a blue LED. We also fabricated a three-band white LED by doping $SrGa_2S_4:Eu$ and $CaS_{0.50}Se_{0.50}:Eu$ phosphors onto a blue LED chip.
Calumenin, a multiple EF-hand $Ca^{2+}$ binding protein is located in the SR of mammalian heart, but the functional role of the protein in the heart is unknown. In the present study, an adenovirus gene transfer system was employed for neonatal rat heart to examine the effects of calumenin over-expression (Calu-OE) on $Ca^{2+}$ transients. Calu-OE (8 folds) did not alter the expression levels of DHPR, RyR2, NCX, SERCA2, CSQ and PLN. However, Calu-OE affected several parameters of $Ca^{2+}$ transients. Among them, prolongation of time to 50% baseline ($T_{50}$) was the most outstanding change in electrically-evoked $Ca^{2+}$ transients. The higher $T_{50}$ was due to an inhibition of SERCA2-mediated $Ca^{2+}$ uptake into SR, as tested by oxalate-supported $Ca^{2+}$ uptake. Furthermore, co-IP study showed a direct interaction between calumenin and SERCA2. Taken together, calumenin in the cardiac SR may play an important role in the regulation of $Ca^{2+}$ uptake during the EC coupling process.
The present study was performed to investigate the effect of calcium ion on the mesophyll protoplast culture of Arabidopsis thaliana. The mesophyll protoplase were isolated and cultured on an IMH medium supplemented with CaCl$_2$of various concentrations. When the protoplasts were cultured on the medium containing 0 to 12.5 mM CaCl$_2$, extreme vacuolization occurred without cell division. When the protoplasts were cultured with higher levels of CaCl$_2$ up to 50 mM, vacuolization decreased dose-dependent): and the number of plasma-rich cells increased. Cell division was induced when the protoplast were cultured on the medium with CaCl$_2$ higher than 25 mM. The highest plating efficiency (5-6%) was obtained with 50 mM CaCl$_2$. However the plating efficiency was markedly inhibited by 100mM CaCl$_2$ or above. These resole suggest that the relatively high concentration (50 mM) of calcium ion may be required for the culture of protoplasts.
There is evidence that the effect of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ on heart rate is temperature-dependent: at $38^{\circ}C$ excess $Ca^{2+}$ induces positive chronotropic response, whereas at $30^{\circ}C$ there is no significant chronotropic effect of $Ca^{2+}$. The cause of this temperature-dependency, however, remains still unclear. Therefore, this study was undertaken to investigate the chronotropic effect of external $Ca^{2+}$ at different temperature in the isolated rabbit atria and in the small strips of SA node cut perpendicularly to crista terminalis. In the isolated atria, the $Ca^{2+}$ effect was temperature-dependent: at $35^{\circ}C$ excess $Ca^{2+}$ evoked positive chronotropic response, while at $30^{\circ}C$ there was no significant changes in sinus rate. On the contrary, in the small SA strips external $Ca^{2+}$ induced negative chronotropic effect. At $35^{\circ}C$ changes in $Ca^{2+}$ concentration from 2 to 4, 6, and 10 mM decreased the sinus rate by $2.7{\pm}1.6%$, $11.2{\pm}3.7%$ and $23.2{\pm}8.1%$ respectively. Lowering the temperature to $30^{\circ}C$, the negative chronotropic effect of $Ca^{2+}$ became greater. With intracellular microelectrodes transmembrane potential was recorded in the small SA strips at $30^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$ and $38^{\circ}C$. As temperature increased from 30 to $38^{\circ}C$, sinus rate was accelerated by $13/min/^{\circ}C$, $APD_{50}$(action ptential duration from peak to 50% repolarization) decreased by $5\;msec/^{\circ}C$, and amplitude of action potential was slightly decreased. With an increase in $Ca^{2+}$ concentrations from 0.5 to 6 mM, overshoot increased and MDP decreased. These $Ca^{2+}$ effects on the overshoot and MDP of action potentials were not altered by temperature. But the $Ca^{2+}$ effects on the rates of diastolic depolarization, systolic depolarization and repolarization were modified by temperature. Discrpancy of the chronotropic effects of $Ca^{2+}$ between isolated atria and small SA strips was discussed.

This study was conducted to investigate the antler induction rate and production by artificial induction of antlerogenesis using $CaCl_2$ injection on both periosteum around area of horn development for the frontal bone of a female elk deer which do not have an antler. The results obtained from eleven deers for verifying effect of the female's antler induction on reproduction are as follows: The antler development induction by $CaCl_2$injection is higher on the treatments of 30 and 50% of $CaCl_2$ injection than those on the treatments of 15 %. The antler production is higher on the 30 % $CaCl_2$ injection than those of 15 and 50 % $CaCl_2$ injection. For 30 % $CaCl_2$ injection, the antler production is higher in 1.5 and 2.0 ml of % $CaCl_2$ injection than the other injection level. After the induction of antler development, the birth rate is not changed as of 75~100 %, while the regeneration rate of the antler which was not constant in approximately 45 % for five among eleven female deer. With these results, we assume that the injection concentration and amount of $CaCl_2$ injection are around 30 % and 1.5 and 2.0 ml level which can be not only most effective conditions for the antler induction rate and production, but also these conditions do not influence the reproduction during the period of the female elk's antler development induction.

Anoctamin 6/TMEM16F (ANO6) is a dual-function protein with Ca2+-activated ion channel and Ca2+-activated phospholipid scramblase activities, requiring a high intracellular Ca2+ concentration (e.g., half-maximal effective Ca2+ concentration [EC50] of [Ca2+]i > 10 μM), and strong and sustained depolarization above 0 mV. Structural comparison with Anoctamin 1/TMEM16A (ANO1), a canonical Ca2+-activated chloride channel exhibiting higher Ca2+ sensitivity (EC50 of 1 μM) than ANO6, suggested that a homologous Ca2+-transferring site in the N-terminal domain (Nt) might be responsible for the differential Ca2+ sensitivity and kinetics of activation between ANO6 and ANO1. To elucidate the role of the putative Ca2+-transferring reservoir in the Nt (Nt-CaRes), we constructed an ANO6-1-6 chimera in which Nt-CaRes was replaced with the corresponding domain of ANO1. ANO6-1-6 showed higher sensitivity to Ca2+ than ANO6. However, neither the speed of activation nor the voltage-dependence differed between ANO6 and ANO6-1-6. Molecular dynamics simulation revealed a reduced Ca2+ interaction with Nt-CaRes in ANO6 than ANO6-1-6. Moreover, mutations on potentially Ca2+-interacting acidic amino acids in ANO6 Nt-CaRes resulted in reduced Ca2+ sensitivity, implying direct interactions of Ca2+ with these residues. Based on these results, we cautiously suggest that the net charge of Nt-CaRes is responsible for the difference in Ca2+ sensitivity between ANO1 and ANO6.
The relationship between storage stability and calcium contents extracted from anchovy according to particle sizes was investigated in this paper. The results are as follows; 1. The acid value (A Y) and the peroxide value (POY) of anchovy were in the rank order of whole anchovy<35<50<80 mesh by particle sizes and 6<12<18<30 months by storage term. 2. The Calcium (Ca) and Phosphorus (P) contents extracted from anchovy were in the rank order of whole anchovy<35<50<80 mesh by particle sizes and 10<20<30 minutes by heating time. The extracted amount of Ca was the largest when anchovy particles with 80 mesh were heated for 30 minutes. In that case the amount of Ca in the anchovy stocks was 52.54 mg. 3. The amount ratio between Ca and P was in the rank order of 30<20<10 minutes by boiling time and indicated 1:3.99~5.16 by each part. The lowest ratio of Ca to P was 1:3.99 when anchovy particles with 80 mesh were heated for 30 minutes.
