Final R=0.0580 for 1637[F>3σ(F)]unique refledtions. α,β-diphenylsuccinic acid, C16H14O4, are connedted with the solvent actone by hydrogen bond O(4)-H˙˙˙O(5), forming a dimer related by related by centrosymmentry thorough intermolecualr carboxylic hydrogen bond O(1)-H˙˙˙O(2)(-x,-y,-z). The nearest distance 3.288A[O(2)˙˙˙O(2)(-x,-y,-z)] between the dimers shows that the packing of the dimer is govermed by van der Waals'force.

THE EFFECT OF SURFACE TREATMENTS ON THE SHEAR BOND STRENGTH OF REPAIRED COMPOSITES (광중합형 복합레진 수리시 표면처리가 전단결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatments on the shear bond strength between new and old composites. Circular cavities prepared on the center of acrylic resin mold and the prepared cavities were filled with composite resin. They randomly assigned into control group and 8 groups according to the difference in surface treatments of old composites; Control group: no surface treatment, Group 1: surface treated with #120 SiC paper & bonding agent, Group 2: surface treated with #400 SiC paper & bonding agent, Group 3: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$ & bonding agent, Group 4: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$ & bonding agent, Group 5: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, primer & bonding agent, Group 6: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, primer & bonding agent, Group 7: surface treated with #120 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$, primer & bonding agent, Group 8: surface treated with #400 SiC paper, 32% $H_3PO_4$, primer & bonding agent. New composites were applicated on the old composites of experimental groups. The shear bond strengths for the experimental specimen were measured and the results were analyzed by using one way ANOVA. The observations of surface morphology after SiC paper roughening and debonded surface morphology after shear bond strength test were done by SEM. The results were as follows; 1. Shear bond strengths for specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper matching with the particle size of coarse diamond bur were significantly higher than those for the specimens with #400 SiC paper(P<0.05). By SEM, the surface of the specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper was more irregular than the specimens with #400 SiC paper. 2. Shear bond strengths for specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ etchant, primer, bonding resin were significantly higher than those for specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ and bonding resin(P<0.05). 3. Shear bond strengths for the specimens treated with 32% $H_3PO_4$ etchant and bonding resin were significantly higher than those for specimens treated with only bonding resin(P<0.05). There was no remarkable change of surface morphology after 32% $H_3PO_4$ etching. 4. It was possible to observe mixed fracture patterns (the cohesive fracture of old composite and the adhesive fracture between old and new composite) in the specimens roughened with #120 SiC paper, but almost adhesive fracture in the specimens roughened with #400 SiC paper.

  • $BaTiO_3$ particles were prepared using $Ba(OH)_2{\cdot}8H_2O$ and $Ti(OC_2H_5)O_4$ by the hydrothermal method and their characteristics treated at the various temperatures have been investigated. This prepared $BaTiO_3$ powder includes a very small amount of $H_2O$ and $OH^-$. By increasing the treated temperature from $200^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$, the mean particle size was accordingly increased from $0.022{\mu}m$ to $0.072{\mu}m$ and the tetrogonality(c/a)was increased from 1.02 to 1.2 so that the phase transition to tetroganal takes place. $BaTiO_3$ sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ after heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 3 hrs showed a specific dielectric constant of 8120 and surface activation energy was 9680 kcal/mol.

Disposal Possibility of Raw Food Wastes Using Earthworm, Eisenia andrei (지렁이를 이용한 생 음식물쓰레기 체리 가능성)

  • Disposal possibility of raw food wastes which have various characters without any washing and composting process was tested directly using the earthworm, Eisenia andrei. The amount of feeding treatment a day by the earthworm was investigated according to input amount of 1.5 kg/m$^2$ or 3.0 kg/m$^2$ of fifteen food wastes with the different pH and EC. Earthworm disposed an average of 0.87 kg/m$^2$/day of food wastes at the constant temperature of 15$^{\circ}C$ and 1.01 kg/m$^2$/day at 2$0^{\circ}C$. The most disposal among fifteen food wastes was the food waste with pH 5.3 and EC 17.7 as 1.59 kg/m$^2$/day at 15$^{\circ}C$ and as 1.63 kg/m$^2$/day at 2$0^{\circ}C$. The least disposal was the food waste with pH 3.9 and EC 17.7 as 0.31 kg/m$^2$/day at 15$^{\circ}C$ and as 0.53 kg/m$^2$/day at 2$0^{\circ}C$. It took an average 4 days to dispose the amount of 3 kg raw food wastes at 15$^{\circ}C$ and 3.3 days at 2$0^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Dancheonhwan on Hydrogen Peroxide-induced Apoptosis of H9c2 Cardiomyoblasts (단천환이 Hydrogen Peroxide에 의한 심근세포 독성에 미치는 영향)

  • The water extract of Dancheonhwan (DCH) has been used to treat ischemic brain and heart damage in oriental medicine. However, little is known about the mechanism by which the water extract of DCH rescues cells from ischemic damage. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the protective mechanisms of DCH on the H₂O₂-induced toxicity in H9c2 cardiomyoblast cells. Treatment of H₂O₂ markedly decreased the viability of H9c2 cardiomyoblast in a dose-dependent and time-dependent manner. The nature of H₂O₂-induced toxicity of H9c2 cells resulted from apoptotic death confirmed with genomic DNA fragmentation. DCH increased the viability of H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells by about 23%, and partially suppressed the genomic DNA fragmentation and PARP cleavage. H₂O₂ also activated caspase-3 protease and -9 protease, but not both caspase-6 protease and -8 protease. H₂O₂ induced the mitochondria dysfunction, including mitochondria membrane permeability transition (MPT) and cytosolic release of cytochrome c from mitochondria, which was prevented in part by pretreatment of DCH. N-acetylcystein (NAC), a free-radical scavenger, alone increased the viability of H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the combination of NAC with DCH significantly increased the viability of the H₂O₂-treated H9c2 cells in a dose-dependent manner. These data indicate that DCH has the protective effect on ROS-induced apoptosis of cadiomyoblast H9c2 cells.

Ultrastructure of Cell Wall in the Suppressor Mutant of Null Pigmentation (SU-NPG) of Aspergillus nidulans (Aspergillus nidulans 색소결핍 억제돌연변이주의 세포벽 미세구조)

  • To investigate the effect of the cell wall on the pigmentation and branching in Aspergillus nidulans, ultrastructure of cell wall in suppressor mutant of the null pigmentation (SU-NPG, SU602) has been examined. Scanning electron microgrphs (SEM) revealed that the most outer layer of conidia wall peeled off in SU-NPG on day 6 from the complete conidiation. They also showed that hyphal growth and branching were not well developed in SU-NPG. Transmission electron micrographs (TEM) showed that the plasma membrane was not crenulated and the hyphal wall was thick in SU-NPG. These results indicated that the ultrastructure of cell wall in SU-NPC might be modified. Cytochemical analysis showed that the cell wall in SU-NPG was differentiated into Cl, C3, C2 and C4 layer in conidia and H1, H3, H2 and H4 layer in hyphae. C3 layer and H3 layer existed in SU-NPG. The increment of the diameter in SU-NPG hyphae might be caused by the thickness of H3 layer. These results suggest that SU-NPG may have an immature but the differentiated structure for the pigmentation in cell wall.

  • Reduction of Ti(Ⅳ)-oxalate complex on dropping mercury electrode has been studied as a function of oxalate concentration and of pH varied with HCl. Assuming there are equilibrium $TiO(C_2O_4)_2= \;+\;2H^+\;=\;Ti^{+4}\;+\;2C_2O_4\;=\;+\;H_2O,\;K_4$ in addition to $TiO(C_2O_4)_2\;^=\;=\;TiO^{++}\;+\;2C_2O_4=\;K_2\;Ti(C_2O_4)_2\;^-\;=\;Ti^{+3}\;+\;2C_2O_4=\;K_3$ in the system cathodic wave has been well explained for that pH is higher than 0.5. The equilibrium constants $K_2,\;K_3$ and $K_4$ have been to be $2{\times}10^{-12},\;5{\times}10^{-13}$ and $10^{-11}$, respectively. The reduction of Ti(Ⅳ)-oxalate system is $Ti^{+4}\;+\;e\;{\to}\;Ti^{+3}$ in the concentration of hydrochloric acid, higher than 3M.

Growth characteristics of pathogens isolated from surface of carcass (도체표면에서 분리한 병원성 미생물의 성장특성)

  • The growth characteristics of 5. coli O157:H7 CDFI, A. sobria CDF3 and S. aureus CDF2 isolated from surface of carcass were investigated to improve hygienic quality of beef. The total count of carcass surface before washing was higher than that of after washing. Total count of after cooling decreased about 10$^1$∼ 10$^2$/㎠ compare with before cooling. Total count of carcass surface after transfer increased regardless seasons. The growth E. coli O157:H7 CDF1 occurred at pH 4 and 6% NaCl but A. sobria CDF3 and S. aureus CDF2 did not grow at the same conditions. Although the growth of E. coli O157:H7 CDF1 and S. aureus CDF2 was inhibited by 0.3% lactic acid, but A sobria CDF3 did not grow in TSB containing 0.3% lactic acid. E. coli O157:H7 CDF1 grew rapidly after 3 days incubation at 10$\^{C}$ but did not grow at 4$\^{C}$. But A. sobria CDF3 grew rapidly after 3 days incubation at 4$\^{C}$. E. coli O157:H7 CDF1 and A. sobria CDF3 were destroyed by heat treatment for 3 min at 60$\^{C}$. S. aureus CDF2 did not detect after heat treatment for 2 min at 70$\^{C}$.

A Study for Kinetics and Oxidation Reaction of Substituted Benzyl Alcohols Using (C10H8N2H)2Cr2O7 ((C10H8N2H)2Cr2O7를 이용한 치환 벤질 알코올류의 산화반응과 반응속도에 관한 연구)

  • $(C_{10}H_8N_2H)_2Cr_2O_7$ was synthesized by reacting 4,4'-bipyridine and chromium (VI) trioxide. The structure of the product was characterized with FT-IR (infrared spectroscopy) and elemental analysis. The oxidation of benzyl alcohol using $(C_{10}H_8N_2H)_2Cr_2O_7$ in various solvents showed that the reactivity increased with the increase of the solvent dielectric constant, in the order of DMF (N,N'-dimethylformamide) > acetone > chloroform > cyclohexane. In the presence of DMF, an acidic catalyst such as $H_2SO_4$ $(C_{10}H_8N_2H)_2Cr_2O_7$ oxidized benzyl alcohol (H) and its derivatives ($p-OCH_3$, $m-CH_3$, $m-OCH_3$, m-Cl, $m-NO_2$). Electron donating substituents accelerated the reaction rate, whereas electron acceptor groups retarded the reaction rate. Hammett reaction constant (${\rho}$) was -0.70 (308 K). The observed experimental data were used to rationalize the hydride ion transfer in the rate determining step.

Oxidation Reaction of CO and $C_2H_4$ on Zinc Oxide (산화아연에서의 CO, $C_2H_4$의 산화반응)

  • The surface reactions of CO and $C_2H_4$ with adsorbed oxygen on ZnO were studied by means of EPR spectroscopy. The EPR spectra of $O_2$ adsorbed ZnO at various temperatures were compared, and the signal at g = 2.014 was characterized as trapped $O^-$ at oxygen vacancy. CO and $C_2H_4$ react with $O^-$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and desorbed as $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ above $200^{\circ}C$. $O_2^-$ species interact with $C_2H_4$ about $100^{\circ}C$, but desorption of partial oxidation products also was not observed until the temperature was raised to $200^{\circ}C$.
