  • Context-aware computing systems require real-time context reasoning process for context awareness. Context reasoning can be done by comparing input information from sensors with knowledge-base within system. This method is identical with it of rule-based systems. In this paper, we propose hardware rule-based system architecture which can process context reasoning in real-time. Compared to previous architecture, hardware rule-based system architecture can reduce the number of constraints on rule representations and combinations of condition terms in rules. The modified content addressable memory, crossbar switch network and pre-processing module are used for reducing constraints. Using SystemC for description can provide easy modification of system configuration later.

  • In Seoul, skyscrapers are built in commercial zones known as residential-commercial complexes, which cause such environmental problems as urban heat islands(UHI) and air pollution. To investigate air temperature differences in areas near skyscrapers at Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea, fixed air temperature observation and traverse observations were performed from March 16, 2008 to March 15, 2009. The annual mean air temperature at Tower Palace(TPL) was higher than that at Sookmyung Girls' High School(SMG) by $0.7^{\circ}C$, although the distance between the two observation positions is only 200m. The number of tropical nights at TPL was 13, while that at SMG was 5. The higher air temperature at TPL was due to a significantly lower sky view factor(SVF), which prevented long-wave radiation from emitting into the sky. The highest air temperature increases near TPL occurred on summer nights because of the high-electricity consumption value of $70.22Wh/m^2$ for the TPL block in August due to air conditioning for cooling. It is concluded that the warm air pocket centered on TPL.

  • Compared to terrestrial RF communications, underwater acoustic communications have several limitations such as limited bandwidth, high level of fading effects, and a large underwater propagation delay. In this paper, in order to tackle those limitations of underwater communications and to make it possible to form a large underwater monitoring systems, we propose a hierarchical underwater network architecture, which consists of underwater sensors, clusterheads, underwater/surface sink nodes, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). In the proposed architecture, for the maximization of packet delivery ratio and the minimization of underwater sensor's energy consumption, a hybrid routing protocol is used. More specifically, cluster members use Tree based routing to transmit sensing data to clusterheads. AUVs on optimal trajectory movements collect the aggregated data from clusterhead and finally forward the data to the sink node. Also, in order to minimize the maximum travel distance of AUVs, an Integer Linear Programming based algorithm is employed. Performance analysis through simulations shows that the proposed architecture can achieve a higher data delivery ratio and lower energy consumption than existing routing schemes such as gradient based routing and geographical forwarding. • This study investigated the changes of indoor thermal environment by Ardisia species planted in indoor space. Three Ardisia species (Ardisia japonica, Ardisia crenata and Ardisia pusilla) were used in this study and differences of temperature and relative humidity were ascertained in an empty chamber with and without plants. In high temperatures over $24^{\circ}C$, Ardisia species cooled down chamber more as compared to the control without plants, but there were no significant differences among Ardisia species. Ardisia crenata showed high relative humidity of $57.3{\pm}3.1%$ during most of the day time and $60.8{\pm}2.5%$ at low temperatures. However, Ardisia japonica and Ardisia pusilla showed $54.7{\pm}1.18%$ and $52.5{\pm}2.4%$, respectively, on the average, and they maintained comfortable relative humidity during most of the day time. When the setting temperature was decreased from 28 to $26^{\circ}C$, Ardisia species showed 7.5~13.6 times greater cooling efficiency as compared to the control without plants, and at low temperatures the chamber without plants showed higher themal energy than the chamber with plants. Ardisia species were effective on cooling down the temperature at high temperatures and they showed a tendency to maintain proper temperatures at low temperatures.

  • The present paper presents a study on the behavior and design of corrugated web steel beams with and without web openings. In the literature, the web opening problem in steel beams was dealt with mostly for steel beams with plane web plates and research on the effect of an opening on a corrugated web was found out to be very limited. The present study deals mainly with the effect of web openings on the transverse load carrying capacity of steel beams with sinusoidally corrugated webs. A general purpose finite element program (ABAQUS) was used. Simply supported corrugated web beams of 2 m length and with circular web openings at quarter span points were considered. These points are generally considered to be the optimum locations of web openings for steel beams. Various cases were analyzed including the size of the openings and the corrugation density which is a function of the magnitude and length of the sine wave. Models without web holes were also analyzed and compared with other cases which were all together examined in terms of load-deformation characteristics and ultimate web shear resistance.

  • In this paper, 18 single-sized pervious concrete mixtures were tested. The mixtures were prepared by altering: the amount and type of binder, type of aggregate, and the method of compaction. Concrete was compacted in layers in one of five different consolidation techniques: with standard tamping rod, wooden lath, concrete cylinder, or vibration of 12 and 40 s. Tests carried out on the specimens were: slump, density, porosity, coefficients of permeability, compressive strength and splitting strength. The relationships between porosity-density and porosity-strength were established. Two mixtures were selected for the preparation of test slabs on different subgrades and their permeability was tested according to ASTM C 1701-09 Standard. By comparing laboratory and field tests of permeability, it was concluded that the subgrade affects the test results. Measurements on the test slabs were repeated after 1 and 2 years of installation.

  • In this paper, bond-slip behavior of high strength concrete filled circular steel tube (HSCFCST) after elevated temperatures treatment was studied. 17 specimens were designed for push-out test. The influence was discussed as following parameters: (a) concrete strength, (b) constant temperature, and (c) bond length. The results showed that (1) after elevated temperatures treatment, the bond strength of the HSCFCST specimens increased first and then decreased with temperature rising; (2) the bond strength increased with the increase of concrete strength at room temperature, while the influence subsided after elevated temperatures treatment; (3) the strain of the circular steel tube was distributed exponentially along its length, the stress changed from exponential distribution to uniform distribution with the increase of load; (4) the bond damage process was postponed with the increase of constant temperature; and (5) the energy consumption capacity of the bonding interface increased with the rise of concrete strength and constant temperature. Moreover, computational formulas of ultimate and residual bond strength were obtained by regression, and the bond-slip constitutive models of HSCFCSTs after elevated temperatures was established.

  • This thesis proposes a sigma-delta modulator architecture with 2 Ms/s data rate and 12 bit resolution. A sigma-delta modulate has the features of oversampling and noise shaping. With these features, it can be connected with low resolution A/D converter to achieve higher resolution A/D converter. Most previous researches have been concentrated on high resolution but low data rate applications, e.g. audio applications. But, in order to be applied to various applications such as wireless data communication, researches on sigma-delta modulator architecture for higher data rate are required. The proposed sigma-delta modulator architecture has the sampling rate of 16 times Nyquist rate to achieve high data rate, and consists of a cascade of two 2nd order sigma-delta modulator to get relatively high resolution. The experimental result shows that the proposed architecture achieves 12-bit resolution at 2 Ms/s data rate.

  • An experiment was made in order to analyze the growth characteristics and productivity of Zoysia japonica under control, mowing and TIBA treatment conditions at the experimental farm of Kyung Hee univ. from May 26 to Oct. 1 in 1985. The field was planned by the randomized block design method and each treatment was given to three plots (2${\times}$2, 4${\times}$4 and 10${\times}$10 cm) and was replicated three times. Each plot was 1$m^2$ for Zoysia japonica. The sampling of each plot was taken once a week after sowing. In order to know the dry matter of total standing crops, kept 9$0^{\circ}C$ and weighted each organ of the plants. Total leaf area of a plant was measured by drawing method. The author adopted the growth analysis of English School. The increasing rates of numbers of leaf and stem were remarkably high in each plot between 10th and 12th weak after sowing and it was highest in TIBA treated plot. The increasin rate of leaf area in each plot was remarkably high beween 10th and 12th week and the maximum value of leaf area was 274.00c$m^2$ in TIBA treated plot of 100 plants/$m^2$. The increasing rate of standing crop was remarkably high between 10th and 12th week and the high increasing tendency in TIBA plot resulted from TIBA. The positive correlationship was founded between standing crop and leaf area. The evaporation rather than temperature acted as a main factor of negative correlation with standing crop during the experiment period. Solar radiation had a high positive correlation in the lower density of plot. C/F ratio was low, during the growth period, from 10th to 12th week after sowing and was low in the higher density under each treated plot. T/R ratio was not constant during the sampling period but was high in the lower density. The increasing rates of RGR and NAR were high between 11th and 12th week after sowing. Leaf area ratio was high in higher density in each plot and not constant in all treated plot.

  • Outdoor design temperature is important for selecting proper capacity of heating and cooling systems of a building to implement indoor thermal comfort and save energy consumption. The purpose of this study is to investigate the change of South Korea outdoor design temperature according to the assigned period. When outdoor design temperature of 8 locations calculated with the latest weather data during 2008~2015 years using ASHRAE Bin method are compared to the standard temperature of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport which is widely used for designing South Korea air-conditioning system at present, the maximum temperature difference becomes $0.97^{\circ}C$ for cooling, and $1.94^{\circ}C$ for heating. Due to wide outdoor temperature variation, update of outdoor design temperature based on recent weather data is recommended.
