Comparisons of Collection 5 and 6 Aqua MODIS07_L2 air and Dew Temperature Products with Ground-Based Observation Dataset (Collection 5와 Collection 6 Aqua MODIS07_L2 기온과 이슬점온도 산출물간의 비교 및 지상 관측 자료와의 비교)

  • Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) provides air temperature (Tair) and dew point temperature (Tdew) profiles at a spatial resolution of 5 km. New Collection 6 (C006) MODIS07_L2 atmospheric profile product has been produced since 2012. The Collection 6 algorithm has several modifications from the previous Collection 5 (C005) algorithm. This study evaluated reliabilities of two alternative datasets of surface-level Tair and Tdew derived from C005 and C006 Aqua MODIS07_L2 (MYD07_L2) products using ground measured temperatures from 77 National Weather Stations (NWS). Saturated and actual vapor pressures were calculated using MYD07_L2 Tair and Tdew. The C006 Tair showed lower mean error (ME, -0.76 K) and root mean square error (RMSE, 3.34 K) than the C005 Tair (ME = -1.89 K, RMSE = 4.06 K). In contrasts, ME and RMSE of C006 Tdew were higher than those (ME = -0.39 K, RMSE = 5.65 K) of C005 product. Application of ambient lapse rate for Tair showed appreciable improvements of estimation accuracy for both of C005 and C006, though this modification slightly increased errors in C006 Tdew. The C006 products provided better estimation of vapor pressure datasets than the C005-derived vapor pressure. Our results indicate that, except for Tdew, C006 MYD07_L2 product showed better reliability for the region of South Korea than the C005 products.

  • The aerosol retrieval algorithm for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) measurements was updated recently. This paper reports on the comparison and validation of two latest versions (Collection 4 and 5, shortly C004 and C005) of the MODIS aerosol product over northeast Asian region. The differences between the aerosol optical thickness (AOT) from the C004 and C005 retrieval algorithms and the correlation with ground based AERONET sunphotometer observations are investigated. Over the study region, spatially averaged annual mean AOT retrieved from C005 algorithm $(AOT_{C005})$ is about 0.035 AOT (5%) less than the C004 counterparts. The linear correlations between MODIS and AERONET AOT also are R=0.89 (slope=0.86) for the C004 and R=0.95 (slope=1.00) for the C005. Moreover, the magnitude of the mean error in $AOT_{C005}$, difference between MODIS AOT and AERONET AOT, is 40% less than that in $AOT_{C004}$.

  • $LiFePO_4$ doped with Cr showed improved electrochemical properties as a cathode material of lithium-ion batteries compared to the undoped. The improvement was thought that the doping would raise the electronic conductivity of the compounds. The electrical conductivity of $LiFe_{0.965}Cr_{0.03}B_{0.005}PO_4$ and $LiFe_{0.965}Cr_{0.03}Al_{0.005}PO_4$ powder was measured in the temperature range from 30 to $80^{\circ}C$. The doped powders were synthesized via mechanochemical milling and subsequent heat treatment at 675~$750^{\circ}C$ for 5~10h. The doping enhanced grain growth and electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity of the $LiFe_{0.965}Cr_{0.03}Al_{0.005}PO_4$ powder at $30^{\circ}C$ was $1{\times}10^{-8}S/cm$, which was higher two orders of magnitude than that of the undoped.

  • [ $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ ], $LiNi_{0.990}Ti_{0.010}O_2$ and $LiNi_{0.0990}Al_{0.005}Ti_{0.005}O_2$ were synthesized with a combustion method by calcining in an $O_2$ stream at $750^{\circ}C$ for 36 h. The X-ray diffraction patterns of these synthesized samples showed $-NaFeO_2$ structure of rhombohedral system(space group; $R{\bar{3}}\;m$) with no evidence of impurities. Among these samples, $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ exhibited comparatively high first discharge capacity and discharge capacity, and the best cycling performance. $LiNi_{0.995}Al_{0.005}O_2$ had the first discharge capacity of 165.2 mA h/g and a discharge capacity of 116.7 mA h/g at the 50th cycle at 0.1C rate. It showed the first discharge capacity of 141.0 mA h/g and a discharge capacity of 93.5 mA h/g at the 50th cycle at 0.5C rate.

Complete genome sequence of Lactococcus lactis strain K_LL005, a xylose-utilizing bacterium isolated from grasshopper (Oxya chinensis sinuosa)

  • Lactococcus lactis is a fermentative lactic acid bacterium that is used extensively in food fermentations. The L. lactis strain K_LL005 was isolated from the grasshopper (Oxya chinensis sinuosa) gut in Korea. In this study, we reported the complete genome sequence of Lactococcus lactis K_LL005. The final complete genome assembly consist of one circular chromosome (2,375,093 bp) with an overall guanine + cytosine (G + C) content of 35.0%. Annotation results revealed 2,281 protein-coding sequences (CDSs), 19 rRNAs, and 68 tRNA genes. Lactococcus lactis K_LL005 has a gene encoding xylose metabolism such as xylR, xylA, and xylB (xylRAB).

재조합 인간 GM-CSF의 수용체에 관한 연구

  • 본 실험에서는 유전자 재조합으로 제조한 〔$^{125}$/I〕-labeled human GM-CSF를 사용하여 GM-CSF의 HL-60 cell의 표면에 존재하는 GM-CSF 수용체의 특성을 밝히고 수용체에 대한 binding parameter를 확인하고 Immunex(미국) 사에서 제조한 Prokine(Sargramostim)과 Sigma사에서 구입한 GM-CSF(C-9666)를 표준물질로 하여 (주) Lucky에서 제조한 GM-CSF(LBD-005)의 수용체에 대한 결합율을 측정, 각각 비교하고자 하였다. 한편 LBD-005는 glycosylation된 form과 안된 form의 혼합물이므로 당화의 정도가 수용체에 대한 결합에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 glycosylated form과 혼합물(LBD-005)의 수용체에 대한 결합율을 측정 비교하였다.

Effects of doping on the electrical conductivity and particle size in olivine type $LiFePO_4$ powders (올리빈형 $LiFePO_4$ 분말의 전기전도도와 입도 크기에 미치는 도핑의 영향)

  • To get a fine $LiFePO_4$ powder with high electrical conductivity, the influences of doping of aliovalent elements(Cr+B and Cr+Al) on electrical conductivity and of heat treatment conditions on particle size of the doped powders were studied. Two kinds of the doped powders $LiFe_{0.965}Cr_{0.03}B_{0.005}PO_4$ and $LiFe_{0.065}Cr_{0.03}Al_{0.005}PO_4$ were synthesized using mechanochemical milling and subsequent heat treatment at $675{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ for $5{\sim}10\;h$. The doping enhanced grain growth and electrical conductivity. The electrical conductivity at $30^{\circ}C$ was $1{\times}10^{-8}S/cm$ in the doped with Cr and Al, and $5{\times}10^{-10}S/cm$ in the undoped one.

  • Streptomyces minoensis DMCJ-144 isolated from soil produces the ${\alpha}-amylase$ inhibitor. Optimum culture conditions for ${\alpha}-amylase$ inhibitor production of the strain were determined in this experiment. The optimum composition of the culture medium was studied by supplementing various carbon sources, nitrogen sources, vitamins, and metal salts to the basal medium containing 1% glucose, 0.1% asparagine, 0.005% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, 0.005% $K_2HPO_4$, 0.005% NaCl. Other culture conditions such as the culture temperature, initial pH of the medium, aeration, and culture time were also investigated. When the strain was cultured in a 100 ml flask containing 20 ml of 2% glucose, 0.5% beef extract, 0.0002% riboflavin, 0.0002% thiamine HCI, 0.01% $ZnCl_2$, 0.005% $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$, 0.005% $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$, 0.005% NaCl, pH 7.2, 180 rpm at $30^{\circ}C$, the maximum production of the ${\alpha}-amylase$ inhibitor was observed after 5 days of the cultivation.

Effects of Water Temperature, Salinity and Irradiance on the Growth of the Toxic Dinoflagellate, Gymnodinium catenatum (Graham) Isolated from Yeosuhae Bay, Korea (여수해만에서 분리한 유독 와편모조류, Gymnodinium catenatum (Graham)의 성장에 미치는 수온, 염분과 광 조건)

  • A chain-forming toxic din flagellate, Gymnodinium catenatum (Graham) was known as a paralytic toxin-producer among Gymnodinoid group. In the study, the effects of water temperature, salinity and irradiance on the growth of G. catenatum isolated from Yeosuhae Bay, Korea were investigated. Water temperature range in which G. catenatum showed specific growth rate higher than 0.3 day$^{-1}$ were above about 18${^{\circ}C}$. However, salinity did not have such an effect on growth of G. catenatum. The maximum growth rate (0.5 day$^{-1}$) was obtained at 25${^{\circ}C}$ and 30 psu. The specific growth rate (u) expressed as a polynomial equation as functions of temperature (T; ${^{\circ}C}$) and salinity (S; psu) was $\mu$ = 0.005·T$^2$ - 0.0001164 T$^3$ - 0.063-S + 0.005-S$^2$ - 0.00007608-S$^3$ - 0.003-T-S + 0.00005308-T$^2$-S. Thus, in aspects of water temperature and salinity, the species may be expected to survive in most Korean coastal waters from early summer to autumn. The irradiance-growth curve was described as = 0.16 (I - 10.4)/(1 + 21.8) at 18${^{\circ}C}$ and 30 psu, indicating a half-saturation (Ks) photon flux density (PFD) of 42.6$\mu$mol m$^{-2}s^{-1}$ and compensation PFD (I$_0$) of 10.4$\mu$mol m$^{-2}s^{-1}$. These characteristic responses to irradiance suggest that G. catenatum can reside at the sub-surface.

The Optimal Producing Conditions of Bacteriocin Produced by Lactobacillus sp. FF-3 Isolated from Korean Dongchimi (동치미에서 분리한 Lactobacillus sp. FF-3가 생산하는 bacteriocin의 최적 생산조건)

  • The optimal culture conditions on bacteriocin producing of Lactobacillus sp. FF-3 isolated from Korean Dongchimi, were studied for enhancing its production with regard to environmental and nutritional factors. The optimal cultivation time, initial pH and temperature were 21 hours, pH 7.0 and 30∼37$^{\circ}C$ respectively. Optimal compositions of culture medium for bacteriocin production were glucose 3% as carbon source, tryptone 4% as nitrogen source, and manganese sulfate 0.005% as inorganic salt with other basal components. The maximum antimicrobial activity was 484 BU/mL under the optimal culture condition.
