  • As a series of studios on the suitability as a second intermediate host of Clcnorchis sinensis, the wormicidal effects of mucus from epidermis of Cyprinus carpio nudus were observed. The results obtained were sumlnarized as follows : On the silica gel thin layer chromatography with the greenisll yellow supernatant in acetone: benzene110:90 as carrier, seven spots were observed in iodine chamber. The spot of Rf. 0.225 value among them disclosed the strongest wormicidal effect on the cercaria, the encysted metacercaria, and the adult of C. sinensis. hfeanwhile, no seasonal variations were found in Rf. values and effect of the wormicidal fractions. The wormicidal materials in epidermal mucus of C. carpio nudes and Carassius carassius were compared in their effect, and the former was Inore effective killing substance than the latter. It seemed that C. carpio nodus could not be proper intermediate host of C. sinensis according to results of the present study, in addition to our previous observation results.

  • 잉어(C. carpio), 송사리(O. latipes), 일본산 송사리(O. latipes)등 3종의 담수산어 류에 대한 30개 농약의 급성독성$(48hr-LC_{50})$을 평가하여 각 어종간 농약에 대한 감수성의 상관관계를 비교하였다. 어종간 농약감수성의 상관관계는 잉어와 송사리는 r=0.80, 잉어와 일본산 송사리는 r=0.89로 비교적 높은 편이나, 송사리와 일본산 송사리의 상관관계는 r=0.93으로 매우 높았다. 따라서 일본산 송사리의 실험결과로 잉어 및 송사리의 농약 감수성을 예측할 수 있을 것으로 생각되었다. 그리고 우리나라의 잉어에 대한 어독성실험 지침은 실험수조내의 DO가 2mg/1 정도까지 떨어지므로 실험지침에 대한 검토가 있어야 할 것이다.

Risk assessment and evaluation of epidermal growth factor (EGF) transgenic soybean: responses of Cyprinus carpio fed on EGF transgenic soybean

  • The epidermal growth factor (EGF) transgenic soybean was developed and biosynthesis of human epidermal growth factor (hEGF) in soybean seeds was confirmed. Also, EGF transgenic soybean were found to contain a herbicide resistance selectable marker by introduction of phosphinothricin acetyltransferase (PAT) gene from the Streptomyces hygroscopicus. For biosafety assessment, the EGF transgenic soybean expressing the EGF biosynthesis gene EGF and herbicide resistant gene PAT was tested to determine effects on survival of Cyprinus carpio, commonly used as a model organism in ecotoxicological studies. C. carpio was fed 100% ground soybean suspension, EGF soybean or non-genetically modified (GM) counterpart soybean (Gwangan). Gene expression of EGF soybean was confirmed by PCR and ELISA to have EGF/PAT. Feeding test showed that no significant differences in cumulative immobility or abnormal response between C. carpio samples fed on EGF soybean and non-GM counterpart soybean. The 48 h-EC50 values of the EGF and non-GM soybean were 1,688 mg·L-1 (95% confidence limits: 1,585 - 1,798 mg·L-1) and 1,575 mg·L-1 (95% confidence limits: 1,433 - 1,731 mg·L-1), respectively. The soybean NOEC (no observed effect concentration) value for C. carpio was suggested to be 625 mg·L-1. We concluded that there was no significant difference in toxicity for non-target organisms (C. carpio) between the EGF soybean and non-GM counterparts.

파로호의 어류상 및 어류군집 (Ichthyofauna and Fish Community in Lake Paro)

  • 2002년 12월부터 2003년 9월까지 파로호의 어류상 및 어류군집을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사된 어류는 총 12과 45종이었다. 한국고유종은 H. mylodon, A. yanatsutae, C. herzi 등 15종 (33.33%)이었다. 우점종은 Z. platypus (72.41%), 아우점종은 H. labeo (9.75%)였고 우세종은 O. uncirostris amurensis (5.98%), Z. temmincki (2.42%), R. brunneus (2.01%), H. olidus (0.88%) 등이었다. 채집된 어종들의 생체량은 Z. platypus 82,863.15g, H. labeo 32,942.63 g, O. uncirostris amurensis 27,482.39 g, C. carpio 6,502.87 g, A. japonica 3,022.15 g,S. scherzeri 2,711.05g의 순으로 나타났다. 파로호에서 확인된 도입종은 A.japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, O. masou masou, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus, C. carpio (Israeli type), C. cuvieri, M. salmoides, L. macrochirus의 10종이었다. 이 중 C. carpio (Israeli type), C. cuvieri, M. salmoides, L. macrochirus는 국외종이며 A. japonica, H. eigenmanni, H. olidus, O. masou masou, C. urotaenius, R. giurinus는 국내 다른 하천으로부터 도입된 종이다.

  • In this study, carp edemavirus disease and herpesviral hematopoietic necrosis were examined in carp (Cyprinus carpio) and crucian carp (Carassius auratus) imported from China. From August 2016 to May 2017, 100 carp and 300 crucian carp were examined. There were no clinical symptoms in all the tested fish, and no internal or external parasitic infections were identified except for the detection of Argulus sp. in one leather carp. Carp edema virus disease was examined by PCR in C. carpio, but all were negative. In C. auratus, herpesviral hematopoietic necrosis was tested by PCR and 4 out of 300 were positive. The results of this study are expected to be useful as basic data for conducting risk analysis on the relevant organisms and counterpart countries or for designating new pathogens for quarantine.

Reproductive biology of common carp (Cyprinus carpio Linnaeus, 1758) in Lake Hayq, Ethiopia

  • This study was conducted in Lake Hayq between January and December 2018. The objectives of this study were to determine the growth, condition, sex ratio, fecundity, length at first sexual maturity (L50), and spawning seasons of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Monthly fish samples of C. carpio were collected using gillnets of stretched mesh sizes of 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 13 cm and beach seines of mesh size of 6 cm. Immediately after the fish were captured, total length (TL) and total weight (TW) for each individual were measured in centimeters and grams, respectively, and their relationship was determined using power function. Length at first maturity (L50) was determined for both males and females using the logistic regression model. The spawning season was determined from the frequency of mature gonads and variation of gonadosomatic index (GSI) values of both males and females. Fecundity was analyzed from 67 mature female specimens. The length and weight relationship of C. carpio was TW = 0.015TL2.93 for females and TW = 0.018TL2.87 for males that indicate negative allometric growth in both cases. The mean Fulton condition factor (CF) was 1.23 ± 0.013 for females and 1.21 ± 0.011 for males. The value of CF in both cases was > 1 that shows both sexes are in good condition. Among the total 1055 C. carpio collected from Lake Hayq, 459 (43.5%) were females and 596 (56.5%) were males. The chi-square test showed that there was a significant deviation between male and female numbers from 1:1 ratio (χ2= 22, df = 11, P > 0.05) within sampling months. The length at first sexual maturity (L50) for females and males were 21.5 and 17.5 cm, respectively. Males mature at smaller sizes than females. The spawning season of C. carpio was extended from February to April, and the peak spawning season for both sexes was in April. The average absolute fecundity was 28,100 ± 17,462. C. carpio is currently the commercially important fish while Nile tilapia fishery has declined in Lake Hayq. Therefore, this baseline data on growth, condition, and reproductive biology of common carp will be essential to understand the status of the population of carp and design appropriate management systems for the fish stock of Lake Hayq, Ethiopia, and adjacent countries.

수인성 아질산 급성 노출에 따른 잉어, Cyprinus carpio의 반수치사농도, 혈액학적 성상 및 혈장성분의 영향 (Effects of lethal concentration, hematological parameters and plasma components of common carp, Cyprinus carpio by waterborne acute nitrite exposure)

  • Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) (Weight 23.05 ± 6.98 g, Length 12.65 ± 1.38 cm) were exposed to waterborne nitrite at 0, 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800 mg NO2 -/L for 96 hours. The lethal concentration 50 (LC50) of C. carpio exposed to waterborne nitrite was 398.6 mg NO2 -/L. Hemoglobin, hematocrit and RBC count were significantly decreased by waterborne nitrite exposure. The MCV (mean mean corpuscular volume) (µl), MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) (pg) and MCHC (mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration) (%) were significantly increased. The inorganic component, plasma calcium, was significantly increased, and the organic components such as plasma cholesterol and total protein were significantly increased showing a similar tendency with calcium. In enzymatic components, the AST and ALT were also significantly increased by nitrite exposure. The results of this study indicate that exposure to nitrite can affect the survival and hematological physiology of C. carpio.

Physicochemical tolerance ranges and ecological characteristics in two different populations of Carassius auratus and Cyprinus carpio

  • The objectives of this research were to determine mean and maximum tolerance ranges of Carassius auratus ($C_a$) and Cyprinus carpio ($C_c$) populations on various physico-chemical parameters and ecological indicator metrics. Little is known about chemical tolerance ranges of the two species, even though these species are widely distributed species in aquatic ecosystems. Maximum tolerance ranges of $C_a$-population to total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were $20.3mgL^{-1}$ and $2.0mgL^{-1}$, respectively. Optimal ranges of TN and TP in the $C_a$-population were $1.7-5.0mgL^{-1}$ and $0.06-0.30mgL^{-1}$, respectively. Such nutrient regimes of the $C_a$-population were evaluated as hypereutrophy, indicating high tolerance limits. The $C_c$-population had similar ecological characteristics to $C_a$-population, but the mean tolerance ranges of TN, TP, BOD, and COD were significantly (p < 0.05) greater than the $C_a$-population. Ecological patterns of trophic composition and tolerance guilds in the $C_a$-population were similar to those of the $C_c$-population. The model value of Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) of the habitat where C. auratus and C. carpio co-occurred averaged $15.0{\pm}4.3$ and $12.9{\pm}3.6$, respectively. Based on the modified criteria of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (Klemm et al. 1993), it indicated poor ecological health of both species. These results suggest that both species are highly tolerant to chemical and physical habitat conditions of waterbodies, and that the chemical tolerance range of $C_c$-population was higher than $C_a$-population.

병저항성 GM(OsCK1)벼가 미꾸리(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)및 잉어(Cyprinus carpio)에 미치는 영향 (Responses of Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and Cyprinus carpio Fed on Disease Resistant(OsCK1) Rice Variety)

  • 본 연구는 병저항성 OsCK1 유전자와 제초제저항성 PAT 유전자가 도입된 병저항성 GM벼에서 도입 유전자의 발현 검증과 수서환경의 비표적 생물체인 잉어와 미꾸리에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 수행되었다. 병저항성 GM벼에 도입된 OsCK1와 PAT 유전자의 PCR 분석 결과, 병저항성 GM벼에서만 특이적인 밴드가 검출되었으며, PAT 단백질 발현량을 ELISA 분석한 결과, 병저항성 GM벼에서만 $45.44{\pm}2.23{\mu}g/g$ 수준으로 검출되었고, 모품종인 낙동벼에서는 검출되지 않았다. 병저항성 GM벼와 낙동벼의 미꾸리(Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)와 잉어(Cyprinus carpio)에 대한 급성독성시험을 실시한 결과, 48시간 및 96시간-$LC_{50}$ 은 5,000 mg/L 이상으로 나타났다. 48시간 및 96시간 무영향농도 NOEC)는 5,000 mg/L이었다. 급성독성 시험기간 중 병저항성 GM벼와 낙동벼간의 pH, DO, 수온, 체중 및 전장에 대한 유의적인 결과는 나타나지 않았다.
