A virus which induced yellowing, vein banding and ruffling on pepper in the field was investigated. The virus reacted strongly with PVY - antiserum in ELISA, but not with antisera of cucumber mosaic virus, tobacco mosaic virus, tomato black ring virus, alfalfa mosaic virus, tomato spotted wilt virus, tobacco etch virus, pepper mottle virus, and tobacco ringspot virus. Electron micrographs revealed that the virus was a flexuous rod of 750-760nm in length. The virus was transmitted mechanically and by Myzus persicae in a nonpersistent manner. The host range was similar to that of PVY, except that Chenopodium amaranticolor and C. quinoa were infected systemiclly.
We investigated the cryogenic temperature plasticity of a bulk amorphous alloy. Experiments showed that as temperature decreases, the plasticity of the alloy increases, such that the alloy exhibited ~20% of plastic strain when tested at $-196^{\circ}C$. This enhancement in the plasticity at cryogenic temperatures was associated with the formation of abundant shear bands distributed uniformly over the entire surface of the sample. Nonetheless, the serrations, the characteristic feature of the plastic deformation of amorphous alloys, were unclear at $-196^{\circ}C$. In this study, both the enhanced plasticity and the unclear serrations exhibited by the amorphous alloy at cryogenic temperatures were clarified by exploring shear banding behaviors in the context of the velocity and the viscosity of a propagating shear band.
Surgically collected cystic fluid of Taenia solium metacestodes from patients of intracranial cystic lesion were compared in their protein composition with those from naturally infected pigs in Cheju Do, Korea and Ecuador. In non-denaturing discontinuous-polyacryla aide gel electrophoresis (disc-PAGE) , no discernible differences were recognized in banding patterns between the cystic fluids from Cheju Do and Ecuador, and between the cystic quids from pigs and human lesions except wider bands that corresponded to human albumin and T-globulin (in 4 of 9 patients). In reducing SDS-PAGE, bands in the cystic Ruid from Ecuador showed the same banding pattern with that from Cheju Do but two bands of 21 and 17 kDa were stained darker. Cystic quids (rom patients revealed the same protein compositions of the major protein bands of 94, 64, 15, 10 and 7 kDa as in the cystic fluid of pig origin, but human albumin (66 kDa), heavy and light chains of gamma globulin (55 and 22.5 kDa) were contaminated in 4 of 9 cystic fluids. Human CSF proteins seem to have been contaminated during cystic ftuid collection. In any cystic quid from patients, the majcr Protein component was 150 kDa which was subdivided into 15, 10 and 7 kDa in reducing SDS-PAGE.

According to results of this research Fly-ash Cement permanent-form production was found to be possible by fly-ash mortal. The compress strength 350kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, banding strength 120kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ were possible material separting and bleeding by excessive W/C rate was decreased permanent-form made by polymer solved high price of polymer by fly-ash. Model material was made by result of first research. There were no minute-crack on beam form and out surface of form was very smooth, So filling degree seemed desirable length of form after steaming curing was maintained as expected. with these results production of form seemed possible. In the banding load test, fly-ash showed increase of maxim load 12% than RC. in the case of minute-crack, comparing with RC, fly-ash showed no crack at connect. at the first stage under continuing loading size of crack increased. These phenomena seemed to be based on contribution of stress of inner bars in permanent-form. in the test of defection, fly-ash shower about 10% beam load increase than RC. in the case of beam defection, RC showed sudden decrease of tolerance at maxim load and total breaking, but permanent-form showed breaking of bending maintaining defection with contribution of steel stress ($\Phi$6 wire-mash). There phenomenic seemed to be attributed to increase of surface and steel tolerance of form. According to construction explacemaion, it was guessed that each panel was constructed by conner-steels in form edge. so cohesiveness was small. on these bases. keeping width of horizontal band 30cm, form-panel of 20mm width was found to be of use. Permanent-form was found to be efficient in compressibleness, defection, safety and use of Fly-ash mortal.
To explore the role of histone deactylase (HDAC) activation in an in vivo model of hypertrophy, we studied the effects of Trichostatin A (TSA). TSA subjected to thoracic aortic banding (TAB)-induced pressure stress in mice. In histological observations, TAB in treated mice showed a significant hypertrophic response, whereas the sham operation remained nearly normal structure with partially blunted hypertrophy. TSA treatment had no effect (measured as HW/BW) on sham-operated animals. TAB animals treated with vehicle manifested a robust ~50% hypertrophic response (p<0.05 vs sham). TAB mice treated with 2 mg/kg/day TSA manifested a blunted growth responses, which was significantly diminished (p<0.05) compared with vehicle-treated TAB mice. TAB mice treated with a lower dose of TSA (0.5 mg/kg/day) manifested a similar blunting of hypertrophic growth (~25% increase in heart mass). Furthermore, to determine activity duration of TSA in vitro, 1 nM TSA was added to H9c2 cells. Histone acetylation was initiated at 4 hr after treatment, and it was peak up to 18 hr, then followed by significantly reduced to 30 hr. We also analyzed the expression of p53 following TSA treatment, wherein p53 expression was elevated at 4 hr, and it was maintained to 24 hr after treatment. ERK was activated at 8 hr, and maintained till 30 hr after treatment suggesting an intracellular signaling interaction between TSA and p53 expression Taken together, it is suggested that HDAC activation is required for pressure-overload growth of the heart. Eventually, these data suggest that histone acetylation may be a novel target for therapeutic intervention in pressure-overloaded cardiac hypertrophy.
One hundred and ninety two isolates of Armillaria were obtained from mycelial fans on infected hosts, rhizomorphs, and single basidiospores or trauma tissue of fruiting bodies. Mating tests showed that two of these isolates were A. mellea, eight were A. tabescens, 20 were A. ostoyae, and 162 were A. gallica. Armillaria ostoyae was mainly isolated from Pinus koraiensis and Qurecus spp., A. tabescens from fruiting bodies on Pinus densiflora and Qurecus spp., and A. gallica from many tree species but not Pinus koraiensis. Armillaria mellea, A. gallica, A. ostoyae and A. tabescens showed distinct protein banding patterns. Mycelial growth and rhizomorph formation was good on basal medium with ethanol added. A. gallica and A. mellea formed many rhizomorphs, but A. ostoyae did not. A. gallica showed the best rhizomorph formation on media with tannic acid and ethanol, but a. mellea formed the most rhizomorphs on gallic acid. Rhizomorphs showed monopodial branching for A. gallica and dichotomous branching for A. ostoyae. Fruiting bodies. formed in the laboratory on sawdust media most abundantly by A. tabescens. In nature, fruit body formation by A. tabescens was from early to mid August. A. ostoyae and A. gallica fruit bodies were formed from early August to late October. While there are common names in Korea for A. mellea and A. tabescens, such as mulberry mushroom relative, no common names are available for A. gallica and A. ostoyae. Therefore, we refer to a. gallica as the Gastrodia mushroom because it has been used to produce Gastrodia and A. ostoyae as the Korean pine mushroom because it is frequently found as mushrooms on Korean pine.
As a series of systematic classification of paramphistomes, the worms in the rumen and reticulum of 310 Korean cattle slaughtered at Chonju abattoir were collected from February 1986 to June 1987 and were classified by morphology of the worms. Afterwards, the karyotype of Fischoederius cobboldi (Poirier, 1883), which is a very rare species in Korean cattle, was studied with germ cells of the worm by means of modified air-drying method. The chromosome numbers in the haploid and diploid cells of 315 F. cobboldi were n=9 and 2n=18, respectively. The meiotic divisions were observed frequently; 1,904 haploid and 49 diploid cells were recognized. Nine pairs of mitotic chromosomes were homologous in the metaphase stage and the chromosomes were composed of seven medium-sized metacentrics (m) or submetacentrics (sm) and two small-sized submetacentrics (sm). While, meiotic metaphases were composed of seven medium and two small·sized chromosomes. The 3rd, 4th, 2nd and 5th pairs of chromosomes was metacentric having centromere indices of 40.4%, 40.0%, 39.7% and 38.9%, respectively, and the remaining ones were submetacentric with centromere indices from 32,4% to 36.2%. As a series of C-banding method, C-band was shown in centromeric region from all of the haploid germ cells, except chromosome No. 1 which included heterochromatin at the tip region. Chromosomes No, 4, 6 and 9 showed remarkable C-band distinguished from others.
Species that belong to the Acinetobacter calcoaceticus-baumannii (Acb) complex are major causes of hospital-acquired infections. They are important opportunistic pathogens. These species are usually multidrug resistant (MDR), and the therapeutic options to treat the infections caused by these species are limited. In the present study, we investigated fluoroquinolone resistance mechanisms in 53 ciprofloxacin resistant Acinetobacter species isolates in Chungcheong, Korea. Antimicrobial susceptibilities were determined using the disk-diffusion method. Detections of genes and identification of mutations associated with fluoroquinolone resistance were carried out using PCR and DNA sequencing. In our study, 47 out of 53 ciprofloxacin resistant Acinetobacter isolates harbored sense mutations at the 83rd residue (serine to leucine) in the gyrA gene as well as at the 80th residue (serine to leucine) in the parC gene. Among the 47 isolates harboring sense mutations in gyrA and parC gene, 44 isolates were A. baumannii and 3 isolates were A. pittii. Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) determinants were detected in isolates in our study. Among the 46 ciprofloxacin resistant A. baumannii isolates, 41 showed type A, B, or F banding patterns on their REP-PCR profiles. This result suggests that clonal relation and horizontal spreading of the bacterial isolates have been around hospitals in Chungcheong area. To prevent colonization and disseminations of fluoroquinolone resistance Acb complex isolates, continuous investigation and monitoring of antimicrobial resistant determinants of MDR isolates are needed.
As a series of systematic classification of paramphistomes, the worms in the rumen and reticulum were collected on 214 Korean cattle slaughtered at Jeonju abattoir from January, 1986 to April, 1987 and were classified by means of morphology. Afterwards, the karyotype of Paramphistomum cervi(Zeder, 1790) was detected by means of modified air.drying method from germ cells of the worms. The results were summarized as follows: 1. In the chromosome number of 254 p. cervi, the haploid cell was n:9 and the diploid 2n=18. The meiotic divisions were observed frequently; 1,924 haploid and 32 diploid cells were reliable. Nine pairs of mitotic chromosomes were homologous in the metaphase stage, and the chromosomes were composed of five medium-sized metacentrics (m) , subtelocentrics(st) or submetacentrics(sm) and four small-siRed subtelocentrics(st) or submetacentrics(sm). Meiotic metaphase was composed of five medium and four small chromosomes in size. 2. As a series of C-banding method, C-band was showed in centromeric region from all of the haploid germ cells. Whereas chromosome No. 3 and 5 included heterochromatin on the tip region, chromosome No. 4 on the distal region and No. 6 proximal region. And chromosomes No. 2 and 8 showed a remarkable C-band distinguished from other chromosomes.
The four-point bending test is a widely used method to determine material parameters. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the flexural strength (or modulus of rupture) and the Weibull modulus of cordierite ceramic substrate by means of four-point bending tests. The strength data from experiments followed Weibull statistics. These data indicate that the fatigue effects are more severe when the substrate temperature in the peripheral region is near $200^{\circ}$. At temperatures well above $200^{\circ}C$ the available design strength can be as high as 65% as substrate's initial strength.
