  • Fly ash (FA) is the main additive to concretes currently produced. This substitute of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) have a positive effect on the structure and mechanical parameters of mature concrete. Unfortunately, the problem of using FA as the OPC replacement is that it significantly reduces the performance of concretes in the early stages of their curing. This limits the possibility of using this type of concrete, e.g., in the prefabrication, where it is required to obtain high strength composites after short periods of their curing. In order to minimize these negative effects, research has been undertaken to increase the early strength of the concretes with FA through the application of a specially dedicated chemical nanoadmixture (NA) in the form of seeds of the C-S-H phase. Therefore, this paper presents results of tests of modified concretes both with the addition of FA and with NA. The analyses were carried out based on the results of the macroscopic and microstructural tests in 5 time periods, i.e. after: 4, 8, 12, 24 and 72 hours. The greatest increase in mechanical strength parameters and rapid development of the basic matrix phases in composites in the first 12 hours of composites curing was observed.

  • Poling piezoelectric ceramic-polymer composites with 0-3connectivity is difficult because of the high dielectric constant of most of the ferroelectric filler materials, and the high resistivity of the polymer matrix. To aid in poling this type of composite, conductivity of the polymer phase can be controlled by adding small amount of a semiconductor phase such as germanium, carbon or silicon. In this study, flexible piezoelectric composites of $PbTiO_3$ powder and Eccogel polymer were developed using small amounts of a semiconducting phase. These composites were poled rapidly at low voltages, resulting in properties superior to composites prepared without a conductive phase. The effect of addition of various conductive phase with different volume percentage on the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the composite are discussed here.

  • Partial discharges(PD)in air insulated electric power apparatus often lead to deterioration of solid insulation by electron bombardments and electrochemical reaction. The PD caused to reduce the life time of power apparatus and to increase power losses. Thus understanding and classification of PD patterns in air are very important to discern sources of PD. In this paper, PD in air by using statistical methods was investigated. We classified air discharges, corona, surface discharges and cavity discharges by Kohonen network. For classification of PD patterns, we used statistical operators and parameters such as skewness$(S^+,\; S^-),\; kurtosis(K^+, K^-),\; mean phase(AP^+, AP^-)$, cross-correlation factor(CC) and asymmetry derived from the mean pulse-height phase distribution$(H_{avg}(\phi))$, the max pulse-height phase distribution $(H_{qmax}(\phi))$, the pulse count phase distribution $(H_n(\phi))$ and the pulse height vs. Repetition rate $(H_q(n))$.

  • Five different types of catalases from photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum rubrum S1 grown aerobically in the dark were found in this study, and designated Catl (350 kDa), Cat2 (323 kDa), Cat3 (266 kDa), Cat4 (246 kDa), and Cat5 (238 kDa). Analysis of native PAGE revealed that Cat2, Cat3, and Cat4 were also produced in the cells anaerobically grown in the light. It is notable that only Cat2 was expressed much more strongly in response to the anaerobic condition. Enzyme activity staining demonstrated that Cat3 and Cat4 had bifunctional catalase-peroxidase activities, while Catl, Cat2, and Cat5 were typical monofunctional catalases. S1 cells grown aerobically in the presence of malate as the sole source of carbon exhibited an apparent catalase Km value of 10 mM and a Vmax of about 705 U/mg protein at late stationary growth phase. The catalase activity of Sl cells grown in the anaerobic environment exhibited a much lower Vmax of about 109 U/mg protein at late logarithmic growth phase. The catalytic activity was stable in the broad range of temperatures (30$\^{C}$-60$\^{C}$), and pH (6.0-10.0). R. rubrum S1 was much more resistant to H$_2$O$_2$in the stationary growth phase than in the exponential growth phase regardless of growth conditions. Cells of stationary growth phase treated with 15 mM H$_2$O$_2$for 1 h showed 3-fold higher catalase activities than the untreated cells. In addition, L-glutamate induced an 80-fold increase in total catalase activity of R. rubrum S1 compared with magic acid. Through fraction analyses of S1 cells, Cat2, Cat3, Cat4 and Cat5 were found in both cytoplasm and periplasm, while Catl was localized only in the cytoplasm.

  • In this study, the characteristics of the experimentally produced high N-high Cr bearing stainless steels are discussed as a part of applications of materials for FGD (Fuel Gas Desulfurization) system of thermal power plants or for power plants using seawater as coolant. Corrosion resistance of developed alloys is especially investigated in detail. Corrosion characteristics of vacuum melted cast are shown to be superior to that of air melted one. From the viewpoint of CPT, It is estimated that the differences of corrosion resistance are $21.8^{\circ}C{\sim}24.6^{\circ}C$ at PRE 40 and $8^{\circ}C{\sim}12.4^{\circ}C$ at PRE 50, and the gaps becomes bigger as the PRE values are lower. In the evaluation of corrosion resistance in alloy A2501, Z3101, and A3301 according to Cr concentration, alloy A3301 shows a deviation from the general tendency in chloride solutions. It has relatively high PRE value as 48.6, but it has relatively poor pitting resistance. It is, however, difficult to observe a specific phase except ferrite in microstructure analysis and neither detects special phase such as sigma phase.

  • Superconducting BiSrCaCu(Ni)O ceramicss have been prepared by the gel method using an aqueous solution containing a tartaric acid. The aqueous solution of metal salts was concentrated without precipitation. The precursor so prepared was homogeneou s and calcined at $825^{\circ}C$ for 24 h to produce superconducting phase. The thermal decomposition of gels, the formation of superconducting phase, and their ceramic microstructure were studied using IR, TGA, XRD, resistance measurements, and SEM. This method is highly reproducible and leads to powders with excellent homogeneity and small particle size for easy sinterability. The nickel dopant substituting for Cu gives rise to the gradual decrease of the Tc. Phase pure 2212 ceramics were obtained at 825 $^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. SEM pictures showed that liquid phase was formed when the samples were sintered temperatures higher than 825 $^{\circ}C$.

  • The amorphous phase of bulk and thin film in the As-Se-S-Ge system was observed by X-ray diffraction. Thermal analysis using DSC, DTA and TGA method has been used for the determination of the glass transition temperature, Tg. The glass transition temperature, Tg for the composition were $238^{\circ}C$ in $As_{40}Se_{15}S_{35}Ge_{10}$ and $231^{\circ}C$ in $AS_{40}Se_{25}S_{25}Ge_{10}$ and $As_{40}Se_{50}Ge_{10}$. The phase seperation of continuous phase and dispersive phase was observed by the optical texture of the polarizing microscope. Also, the glass transition temperature of the thin film was near $200^{\circ}C$. As the results of SEM-EDS analysis, the phase transition of the films by thermal treatment and light illumination was the amorphous to amorphous.

  • $\beta$-SiC was chemically vapor deposited by pyrolysis of MTS+H2 gas mixture. The experiments were conducted in the temperature range of 1100~150$0^{\circ}C$ with a r.f. induction furnace under atmospheric pressure. The IR, XRD, EDS and AES analysis revealed that the free Si was always codeposited with SiC below 140$0^{\circ}C$, regardless of the total flow rate and MTS concentration, whereas $\beta$-SiC single phase was deposited at 150$0^{\circ}C$. C3H8 or CH2Cl2 as an excess C sources, was supplied with MTS in order to obtain stoichiometric SiC at low temperature. With the addition of C3H8 or CH2Cl2, the deposition rate was increased and $\beta$-SiC single phase could be deposited even at temperature as low as 110$0^{\circ}C$. In the absence of C3H8 or CH2Cl2, the microhardness of the layer was quite low (

  • This paper describes output characteristics analysis of outage and phase jump generator for microgrid. The outage and phase jump can be generated with 3-phase voltage disturbance generator. As soon as the outage occurs the STS(Solid Transfer Switch)s are switched off. At the beginning of the outage the PCS is required to limit the reverse current within the rated PCS output current. In case of phase jump the PCS output voltage phase should be adjusted. The generator output characteristics are analysed through simulation.
