  • The CO substitution reactions in the complex, $Cp^*(C_5H_7)$CrCO with $PR_3(PR_3=PMePh_2,\;P(OCH_3)_3,\;PMe_2Ph)$ were investigated spectrophotometrically at various temperatures. For the reaction rates, it was suggested that the CO substitution reaction took place by first-order (dissociative) pathway. Activation parameters in decaline are ${\Delta}H^{\neq}= 21.99{\pm}2.4$ kcal/mol, ${\Delta}S^{\neq}= 8.9{\pm}7.1$ cal/mol·k. Unusually low value of ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$, suggested an ${\eta}^5-S{\to}\;{\eta}^5$-U conversion of the pentadienyl ligand. At various temperature, the rates of reaction for the Cp(pdl)CrCO complexes increase in the order $Cp^*(C_5H_7)$-CrCO < Cp$(C_5H_7)$CrCO < Cp(2,4-$C_5H_{11}$)CrCO, which can be attributed to the usual steric acceration or electronic influence for the ligand substitution of metal complexes. This suggestion was confirmed by the extended-Huckel molecular orbital (EHMO) calculations, which revealed that the energy of $[Cp^*(U-C_5H_7)Cr]^{\neq}$ transition state is about 4.93 kcal/mol lower than that of [Cp(S-$C_5H_7)Cr]^{\neq}$ transition state, and the arrangement of the overlap populations between Cr and the carbon of CO is $Cp^*(C_5H_7)$CrCO > Cp($C_5H_7$)CrCO > Cp(2,4-$C_7H_{11}$)CrCO.

  • Calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) is the principal binding phase that controls the strength and thermal stability of concrete. However, the effects of high temperature on the lattice structure and interatomic structure of C-S-H remains poorly understood due to its nanocrystallinity. This study aims to elucidate the change in interatomic distance of synthetic C-S-H with different Ca/Si molar ratios after exposure to high temperature via high energy X-ray scattering experiment which is a powerful analytical tool for amorphous materials.

  • In order to realize carbon neutrality in the international society, research on supplementary cementitious materials(SCMs) has been actively conducted as a way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the cement industry. However, the use of SCMs causes problems of initial hydration delay and strength reduction due to the reduction of tricalcium silicate(C3S) in the cement clinker. Therefore, in this study, the initial hydration and basic characteristics of cement mortar were confirmed by adding a C-S-H based hardening acceleration to blended cement mixed with Portland cement, blast furnace slag, fly ash, and limestone power. As a result of the heat of hydration and compressive strength test, it was confirmed that when hardening acceleration was added, the initial reactivity was high, so the heat of hydration was promoted, and the initial strength was increased. It is considered to be due to C-S-H seeding effect. Therefore, it is judged that the use of C-S-H based hardening acceleration can supplement the problem of initial hydration delay of blended cement in Korea.

  • The effects of soaking conditions (time and temperature) of rice on the water absorption behaviors and the consequent textural properties after cooking were investigated. Water absorption during soaking was completed in 30 min at $23^{\circ}C$, while the hydration continued up to 60 min at $4^{\circ}C$. The hardness (H) of the cooked rice decreased, while the stickiness (S) and S/H ratio increased with increased soaking time. Soaking at $23^{\circ}C$ gave higher values of S and S/H of cooked rice than soaking at $4^{\circ}C$. Soaking for $10{\sim}40\;min$ at $4^{\circ}C$ or for $10{\sim}20\;min$ at $23^{\circ}C$ resulted the value of S/H between 0.15 and 0.20, which had been found at acceptable textural parameters of the cooked rice.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the Net photosynthesis and respiration rates among the varieties of Soybean(Eunha, Pangsa and Paldal that have high yields) at various leaf temperature and light intensity at the stage of $V_5$. The relations between the Net photosynthesis rate and SLW(specific leaf weight) and chlorophyll content were also investigated. 1. Net photosynthesis rates at $25^{\circ}C$ were $21.5mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ in cv. Eunha, $20.2mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ in cv. Pangsa and $18.5mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ in cv. Paldal. 2. Most cultivars of Soybean showed the maximum rates of Net photosynthesis at $25^{\circ}C$, especially in cv. Eunha. Also Net photosynthesis rates differed depending on the leaf shape. Long leaf shape(cv. Eunha) was better than round leaf shape(cv. Paldal) in Net photosynthesis rate. 3. Respiration rates of leaves in Eunha, Pangse and Paldal were $0.56mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ at $15^{\circ}C$, $0.79mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ at $20^{\circ}C$ $1.15mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and $1.37mgdm^{-2}h^{-1}$ at $30^{\circ}C$. 4. Specific leaf weight were $3.1mg/cm^2$ in Pangsa, $3.5mg/cm^2$ in Eunha and Paldal. No signlficant difference were showed in net photosynthesis rates and specific lear weight. 5. Leaf chlorophyll content were $2.48{\mu}g/gF.W.$ in Eunha, $2.19{\mu}g/gF.W.$ in Pangsa and $1.67{\mu}/g F.W.$ in Paldal. Significant difference were showed in Net photosynthesis rates and Leaf chlorophyll content. 6. The estimated compensation points at which net photosynthesis approached zero were $10{\mu}Em^{-2}s^{-1}$ in Eunha, Pangsa, and Palda at 1$5^{\circ}C$. The compensation point in cv. Eunha at $20^{\circ}C$ was $12P{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ while $13{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ in Pangsa and Palda. The compensation point in cv. Paldal at $25^{\circ}C$ was $18{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ while $16{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ in Eunha and Pangsa. The compensation point in cv. Palda at $30^{\circ}C$ was $23{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ Palda while $13{\mu}Em^{-2}s{-1}$ in Eunha and Pangsa.

  • When calcium sulfoaluminate-based expansive cement was hydrated, ettringite and monosulfate were mainly formed. The crack of hardened cement was prevented by compensating drying shrinkage due to formation of the above hydrates. In order to study the hydration properties of calcium sulfoaluminate-based expanding cement, 3CaOㆍ3Al$_2$O$_3$ㆍCaSO$_4$(C$_4$A$_3$S) was prepared by chemical synthesis, and then the hydration of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.$2H_2O$-C$_3$A system_was characterized. Good $C_4$A$_3$S phase was prepared at $1300^{\circ}C$ by chemical synthesis, and the main hydration product of $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$.2$H_2O$ system was ettringite. In the case of hydration $C_4$A$_3$S-Ca(OH)$_2$-CaSO$_4$ㆍ 2$H_2O$-C$_3$A system, ettringite was formed in the early period and it was transformed into monosulfate while consumed gypsum.

  • Naphthalene hydrogenation reaction was performed as a model reaction for coal liquefaction. Product distributions of tetralin and decalin are sensitive to reaction temperature and hydrogen pressure. At 380$^{\circ}C$, hydrogenation reaction using sulfided pellet catalysts gives poor reproducibility and several experimental methods are tried to examine its cause. It was inferred that H$_2$S had, most possibly, a great effect on this phenomena and the effect of H$_2$S was systematically investigated at 250$^{\circ}C$. It is possible that the intermediate hydroaromatic compound (tetralin) is maximized by changing the partial pressure of H$_2$S. It was identified that the partial pressure of H$_2$S could be another important factor in addition to the reaction time and temperature in coal liquefaction using sulfided catalysts.

  • A k-hypertournament H on n vertices, where $2{\leq}k{\leq}n$, is a pair H = (V,A), where V is the vertex set of H and A is a set of k-tuples of vertices, called arcs, such that for all subsets $S{\subseteq}V$ with |S| = k, A contains exactly one permutation of S as an arc. Recently, Li et al. showed that any strong k-hypertournament H on n vertices, where $3{\leq}k{\leq}n-2$, is vertex-pancyclic, an extension of Moon's theorem for tournaments. In this paper, we prove the following generalization of another of Moon's theorems: If H is a strong k-hypertournament on n vertices, where $3{\leq}k{\leq}n-2$, and C is a Hamiltonian cycle in H, then C contains at least three pancyclic arcs.

  • Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H), which takes up most of the hydration products of Portland Cement (PC), has the greatest impact on the mechanical behavior and strength development of concrete. The exact mechanism of its deformation, however, has not yet been elucidated. The present study aims to demonstrate the mechanism of nano-deformation behavior of C-S-H in tricalcium silicate paste under compressive loading, unloading and reloading by interpreting atomic pair distribution function (PDF) based on synchrotron X-ray scattering. The strain of the tricalcium silicate paste for a short-range of 0 ~ 20 Å under compressive load exhibited two stages, I) nano-packing of interlayer of C-S-H and II) micro-packing of C-S-H globules, whereas the deformation for a long-range order of 20 ~ 40 Å was similar to that of a calcium hydroxide phase measured by Bragg peak shift. Moreover, the residual strains due to the plastic deformation of C-S-H was clearly observed.

  • Investigation of optimal temperature, irradiance and photoperiod conditions for free-living gametophytes of Saccharina sculpera for natural resources conservation and mass cultivation of endangered species in the eastern coast of Korea. Induction of regeneration and maturation of the free-living gametophytes of S. sculpera were cultured at temperatures (5, 10, 15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$), irradiance (10, 20, 40, 60 and $80{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ and photoperiods (14:10, 12:12 and 10:14 h L:D). The female gametophyte were actively regenerated without reaching sexual maturity under $10^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ and 12:12 h (L:D) conditions. In contrast, the conditions for male gametophytes were slightly different at $15^{\circ}C$, $10{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$ and 12:12 h (L:D). The sexual maturation of female and male gametophytes took place under $15^{\circ}C$, $40{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 14:10 h (L:D) and $10^{\circ}C$, $20{\mu}mol\;photons\;m^{-2}\;s^{-1}$, 10:14 h (L:D), respectively. These results provide basic information for controlling the regeneration and maturation of free-living gametophytes for conservation and utilization of S. sculpera.
