Effect of Heating Rate and Keeping Time at Maximum Temperature on the Properties of Woodceramics Made from Thinned Logs (승온속도 및 최고온도 유지시간이 간벌재로 제조된 우드세라믹의 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • This research investigated the variation of density, the weight loss, dimensional shrinkage and heat conduction by the heating rate and keeping time at maximum temperature of woodceramics, when sawdust boards made from thinned logs of Pinus densiflora, Larix kaemferi and Pinus koraiensis were impregnated with phenol-formaldehyde resin, and then were formed by heating rate ($2^{\circ}C/min{\sim}6^{\circ}C/min$) and keeping time at maximum temperature (1~5 h). As the heating rate increased, the density and thickness shrinkage decreased, but weight loss and linear shrinkage increased. The more the keeping time at maximum temperature, the greater the linear shrinkage and thickness shrinkage. The heating conduction was superior at the heating rate is $2^{\circ}C/min$ and the keeping time at maximum temperature of 2 hs.

  • The spheroidization behavior of cementite in a SK85 high carbon steel was investigated in this study. Fine and coarse pearlite microstructures were obtained by appropriate heat treatments according to the TTT diagram of SK85 high carbon steel. Hot rolled plates of SK85 steel were austenitized at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and then put directly into a salt bath at either $570^{\circ}C$ or $670^{\circ}C$ to obtain a fine pearlite (FP) structure and a coarse pearlite (CP) structure, respectively. Cold rolling was subsequently conducted on those specimens with reduction ratios from 0.2 to 0.4. Spheroidization heat treatments were conducted at the subcritical temperatures of 600 and $720^{\circ}C$ for 1 to 32 hrs to elucidate the effect of initial microstructures, heat treatment temperature, and cold reduction ratios on the cementite spheroidization rate. Spheroidization proceeded with fragmentation of cementite plates, spheroidization of the cementite platelets, and coarsening consecutively. Mechanical fragmentation of cementite by cold rolling expedited the rate of spheroidization. The spheroidization rate of FP was much more rapid than that of CP and the spheriodization rate increased with increases in the cold reduction ratio.

The Decomposition of Leaf Litters of Some Tree Species in Temperate Deciduous Forest in Korea II. Changes in Nutrient Content During Litter Decomposition

  • Dry weight loss and nutrient release from leaf litter for six tree species were studied using litter bag methods. The litter bags were incubated for f6 months on the forest floor in temperate deciduous forest in Mt. Cheonma, located at the middle part of Korean Peninsula. The changes in nutrient content and the rate of dry weight loss in leaf litter varied with litter types. The litter of Pinus densiflora showed the lowest rate of mass loss (k=0.33), nitrogen concentration (0.89%) and ash concentration (2.50%), while showed the highest C/N ratio (63.40). On the other hand, the litter of Acer pseudo-sieboldianum showed the fastest rate of mass loss (k=0.82), the highest nitrogen concentration (1.11%), and the lowest C/N ratio (49.40). During the decomposition, nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium in the leaf litters showed relatively slow decreasing pattern compared to other elements (carbon, potassium, magnesium, manganese and sodium), but potassium and sodium decreased at early stage of the decomposition for all leaf litters. Differences in annual decomposition rates of litter among species were consistent with the particular chemical characteristics of their leaf litters. The initial concentration of nitrogen was positively correlated with litter decomposition rate for six species, while litter decomposition rate of six species was negatively correlated with C:N ratio of initial leaf litters.

  • This paper presents the results of the experimental investigation on the effect of acoustic wave on the combustion of suspended A-1 jet fuel droplets in atmospheric pressure. Experimental results indicate that A-1 jet fuel droplet burning rate constants $k_c$ were independent of initial droplet size and the relative evaporation/burning-rate constant $k_{e'}k_c$(ratio of the acoustically disturbed evaporation/burning-rate constant to the undisturbed evaporation/burning-rate constant) increased remarkably 1.2~1.51times, 1.04~1.42times, for frequency below 100Hz, and sound pressure level above 80dB.

  • This study were carried out to investigate the effective concentration of cryoprotective agents and sucrose by one-step straw method, and to determine the optimum thawing temperature and equilibration time of frozen porcine embryos. The porcine embryos foflowing dehydration by cryoprotective agents and a various concentration of sucrose were directly plunged into liquid nitrogen and thawed in 3$0^{\circ}C$ water. Survival rate was defined by FDA test. The results are sunnnarized as follows : 1. The survival rates of porcine embryos after ultrarapid frozen4hawing in the freezing medium with a various concentration of glycerol, DMSO and propanediol added 0.25M sucrose were higher survival rate than those of sucrose concentration of 0.50M. 2. The survival rates of porcine embryos after ultrarapid ftozen4hawing in the freezing medium added 0.25M and 0.SOM sucrose were higher survival rate than those of sucrose concentration of 0.75M and 1.00M. 3. The temperature thawed at 2$0^{\circ}C$ and 3$0^{\circ}C$ resulted in a significantly higher embryos survival rate after 72 hrs in culture than did at 35$^{\circ}C$. 4. The equilibration time on the survival rate of porcine embryos was attained after short period of time(2.5~5 min.) in the freezing medium higher than long period of time(10~20 min.).

Solidification Microstructures with Carbon Contents and Solidification Rates in Modified 12Cr-lMo Steels (개량 12Cr-1Mo강에서 탄소 함량 및 응고속도에 따른 응고 조직 형성 거동)

  • The influences of solidification rates and carbon contents on the formation of the $\delta$-ferrite were studied by directional solidification in modified 12%Cr-l %Mo steels. Directional solidification experimental results showed that solidification microstructure depended on solidification rate and carbon content and chromium equivalent. The length of the mushy zone increased and the dendrite arm spacings decreased as the solidification rate increased. The volume fraction of the 8-ferrite decreased with increasing the solidification rate and carbon content. The volume fraction of the ferrite showed much higher at low solidification rates with planar and cellular interfaces than that at high solidification rates with dendritic interface. It is expected that macro-segregation of C causes lower C content at the lower solidification fraction in the directionally solidified sample, where lower C results in higher volume fraction of the ferrite. In order to estimate solidification microstructure in modified 12Cr-l%Mo steels, various solidification conditions, such as solidification rate, cooling rate, segregation, alloy composition, should be considered.

Structural and Electrical Characteristics of MZO Thin Films Deposited at Different Substrate Temperature and Hydrogen Flow Rate (증착 온도 및 수소 유량에 따른 MZO 박막의 구조적 및 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, we have studied the effect of substrate temperature and hydrogen flow rate on the characteristics of MZO thin films for the TCO(Transparent conducting oxide). MZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering at room temperature and $100^{\circ}C$ with various $H_2$ flow rate(1sccm~4sccm). In order to investigate the effect of hydrogen gas flow rate on the MZo thin film, we experimented with changing the hydrogen in argon mixing gas flow rate from 1.0sccm to 4.0sccm. MZO thin films deposited at room temperature and $100^{\circ}C$ show crystalline structure having (002), (103) preferential orientation. The electrical resistivity of the MZO films deposited at $100^{\circ}C$ was lower than that of the MZO film deposited at room temperature. The decrease of electrical resistivity with increasing substrate temperature was interpreted in terms of the increase of the charge carrier mobility and carrier concentration which seems to be due to the oxygen vacancy generated by the reducing atmosphere in the gas. The average transmittance of the MZO films deposited at room temperature and $100^{\circ}C$ with various hydrogen gas flow was more than 80%.

Helicobacter pylori reinfection rate by a 13C-urea breath test and endoscopic biopsy tests in Korean children (한국 소아에서 Helicobacter pylori 박멸 후 13C-요소 호기 검사와 내시경적 생검을 이용한 재감염률 연구)

  • Purpose : The reinfection rate of H. pylori reported before $^{13}C$-urea breath test($^{13}C$-UBT) era was higher than that of the post $^{13}C$-UBT era. Children are usually reluctant to receive invasive endoscopic evaluation for the reinfection of H. pylori, particularly when they are asymptomatic. The aim of the study is to discover the reinfection rate by different diagnostic tests, and to find out what causes the difference. Methods : Children confirmed to be eradicated from H. pylori were included in the study. Reinfection was evaluated by endoscopic biopsy based tests(n=34, mean age $11.5{\pm}3.7$ years) and/or a $^{13}C$-UBT(n=38, mean age $10.0{\pm}3.6$ years) at the time of 18 months after eradication. At first visit, H. pylori infection had been diagnosed by positive results from a rapid urease test, Giemsa stain and Warthin-Starry stain and/or a positive culture. Eradication was defined as negative results from all above tests 1-3 months after eradication therapy. Results : Reinfection rate by endoscopic biopsy based tests was 35.3 percent(12/34). All patients had abdominal symptoms(P=0.000). Reinfection rate was 13.2 percent(5/38) by a $^{13}C$-UBT. Reinfection rate was higher in children with abdominal symptoms(P=0.008). There was no evidence that reinfection rate depended on the sex(P=0.694), age(P=0.827), diseases(peptic ulcers vs gastritis, P=0.730) and eradication regimen(P=0.087). Conclusion : Helocibacter pylori reinfection rate in Korean children was 13.2 percent per 18 months by a non-invasive test or $^{13}C$-UBT. Accurate determinations of the reinfection rate in children is affected by the compliance of the diagnostic tests. Non-invasive tests should be considered to investigate the reinfection rate in children.

The Effect of Cutting Positions and Temperature on the Rooting of Bitter Gourd (여주 삽목 시 삽수절단 위치와 온도조건이 발근에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate proper stem cutting position and air temperature to regenerate roots from cuttings of bitter gourd. 'NS454' (NS) and 'Dragon' (DR) cultivars were tested and the cutting position was cut at the 3rd node in the stem (treatment I) and cut at the central part (stem segment) between 3rd leaf and 4th leaf in the stem (treatment II). The air temperature was maintained at 18, 23, 28 and $35^{\circ}C$ in the growth chambers, respectively. The photosynthetic photon flux at the ground of a chamber was maintained in approximately $150-200{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ during the 16-hour photoperiod. The relative humidity in the chambers was maintained over 85%. After 10 days of cuttings, regardless of cutting position, DR and NS cultivars showed 100% the survival rate in the $18^{\circ}C$ or $23^{\circ}C$ treatments, however, most of plants $18^{\circ}C$ treatment had not rooting. In the $28^{\circ}C$ treatment, regardless of cutting position, DR and NS cultivars showed 100% of the rooting rate. In the $23^{\circ}C$ treatment, for DR cultivar, the node cutting showed 90% of rooting rate and the stem segment cutting showed 40% rooting rate. For NS cultivar, the node cutting showed 50% of rooting rate and the stem segment cutting showed 40% rooting rate. DR and NS cultivars have high rooting rate, while the rooting rate remarkably decreased in the $35^{\circ}C$ treatment. For DR cultivar, the stem segment cutting showed 5.3 of the highest rooting number and the node cutting showed 2.7 rooting number in the $28^{\circ}C$ treatment. NS cultivar was not significantly different the rooting regardless of cutting position. The results suggested that cutting at the stem segment cutting of bitter gourd is an effective cutting method for increasing survival rate and the air temperature should be maintained at $28^{\circ}C$.

Effect of Temperature on Development and Reproduction of the Rice Armyworm, Pseudaietia separata Walker (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) (멸강나방의 발육과 생식에 미치는 온도의 영향)

  • Development and reproduction of the rice armyworm, Pseudaletia separata Walker, were investigated under different temperatures (13, 15, 18, 20, 25, 30, and 33$^{\circ}C$ ). It took 80.6 days to grow from egg to pre-adult at 15$^{\circ}C$, and 27.3 days at 30$^{\circ}C$ (3.0 times shorter growth period compared with that at 30$^{\circ}C$ ). The range of developmental temperature of rice armywom was 15-30$^{\circ}C$. Survival rate from hatched larva to pre-adult was the highest as 70.6% at 25$^{\circ}C$. Pre-oviposition period and the adult longevity were 4.2 and 12.3 days at 15$^{\circ}C$, and 2.9 and 8.0 days at 30$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The highest average fecundity per female was 816.6 at 25$^{\circ}C$. The net reproductive rate (R$\_$o/) and intrinsic rate of natural increase (r$\_$m/) were the highest at 25$^{\circ}C$ as 913.0 and 0.175, respectively. As a result, it was considered that optimum of temperature for P. separata growth was = 25.0$^{\circ}C$.
