Electrical performance and contact resistance with the substrate temperature in the pentacene organic thin-film transistors

  • Bottom contact pentacene organic thin-film transistors are fabricated at three different substrate temperatures, $70^{\circ}C$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $90^{\circ}C$. The maximum effective mobility was obtained at $80^{\circ}C$. The contact resistance was extracted by applying two different methods, TLM method and channel-resistance method, and the value shows the minimum at $80^{\circ}C$, which is thought to be the important reason for the best performance.

Characterization of the CD11c Promoter Which Is Expressed in the Mouse Dendritic Cells (생쥐 수지상세포에서 발현하는 CD11c 프로모터의 규명)

  • Background: CD11c, also known as integrin alpha x, is one of the optimum markers of dendritic cells. However, the regulation of the CD11c expression in mouse has not been identified yet. In this study, in order to analyze the regulation of CD11c expression, the promoter of CD11c was cloned and characterized. Methods: To identify the promoter portion, various sizes of what are considered to be CD11c promoter fragments was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), using mouse genomic DNA as a template. After sequence was obtained, these fragments were transfected into various cell lines including mouse dendritic cell lines such as JAWSII and DC2.4 and L929 as control cell line.. The promoter activity of three promoter fragments was measured and compared by luciferase activity in the transfected cells. Results: Three clones with size of 1kb, 3kb and 6kb were obtained from mouse genomic DNA. Flow cytometry analysis of JAWSII cells revealed that 52% of the cells expressed CD11c, which was confirmed by RT-PCR analysis. On the contrary, L929 and DC 2.4 cells did not express CD11c. The CD11c+ JAWSII cells were enriched from 52% to 90% with cell sorter. The comparative luciferase activity analyisis demonstrated that the region responsible for tissue specific expression was contained within -3 kb and the clone with size of 3 kb particularly showed higher luciferase activity than 6 kb and 1 kb clones. Conclusion: The CD11c promoter region containing the region responsible for tissue specificity was successfully cloned and -3 kb region showed the highest activity.

c-Src Antisense Complexed with PAMAM Denderimes Decreases of c-Src Expression and EGFR-Dependent Downstream Genes in the Human HT-29 Colon Cancer Cell Line

  • c-Src is one member of non-receptor tyrosine kinase protein family that has over expression and activation in many human cancer cells. It has been shown that c-Src is implicated in various downstream signaling pathways associated with EGFR-dependent signaling such as MAPK and STAT5 pathways. Transactivation of EGFR by c-Src is more effective than EGFR ligands. To inhibit the c-Src expression, we used c-Src antisense oligonucleotide complexed with PAMAM Denderimes. The effect of c-Src antisense oligonucleotide on HT29 cell proliferation was determined by MTT assay. Then, the expression of c-Src, EGFR and the genes related to EGFR-depended signaling with P53 was applied by real time PCR. We used western blot analysis to elucidate the effect of antisense on the level of c-Src protein expression. The results showed, c-Src antisense complexed with PAMAM denderimers has an effective role in decrease of c-Src expression and EGFR-dependent downstream genes.

Synthesis and Oxygen Reduction Reaction Evaluation of 20% Pt/C for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (고분자전해질 연료전지용 20% Pt/C 캐소드 촉매 제조 및 산소환원반응 평가)

  • In order to commercialize Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC), the cathode catalyst such as Platinum supported Carbon (Pt/C) need to have a high activity of Oxygen Reduction Reaction (ORR). In this study, the 20% Pt/C was synthesized using the chemical reduction method while the crystallinity of Platinum (Pt) particles were controlled under heat treatment conditions. The activity of synthesized Pt catalysts was evaluated using electrochemical measurement. Compared with the $i_{ORR}$ at 0.8 V of 20% Pt/C heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ and the 20% Pt/C that were not heated and commercial 20% Pt/C, the $i_{ORR}$ at 0.8 V of 20% Pt/C heattreated at $500^{\circ}C$ was 9.5 and 1.7 times higher than those of the 20% Pt/C and commercial 20% Pt/C that were not heated. It was considered that the crystallinity and particle size affect the ORR activity of the Pt/C catalysts.

Statistical Analysis of Quality Control Data of Blood Components (혈액성분제제 품질관리 자료의 통계학적인 비교)

  • According to increase of domestic blood components use, the quality control of blood components is necessary to support good products. The purpose of this study is used to provide the producing index of the good product as compared with the accuracy and validity for the distribution of the quality control data. The value of mean, standard deviation, 95% confidence interval and degree of normal distribution of data were calculated by univariate procedure, the value of monthly mean of each blood centers per items were compared by Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) test for the degree of distribution. When there was difference among the mean values, the Duncan's multiple range test was done to confirm the difference. Finally, methods for accessing accuracy and validity of the quality data was done by the Contingency table test. The quality data of five blood centers was showed to the normal distribution and it was in a acceptable range. For each blood centers, the monthly means of Hematocrit(Hct), Platelet(PLT) and pH were not significantly different except Hct of C center, PLT of B, D center and pH of A center. The quality data per items was graded according to quality to six level. As a result of the comparative analysis, the monthly means of Hct of C and E center was significantly different higher than that of D, B and A center. The monthly means of PLT of A center and pH of C center was significantly different higher than that of the others. In the accuracy and validity of the quality control data, C center for Hct, A center for PLT and C center for pH were better than the other. The C blood center was most satisfiable and stable in the quality control for blood component. If the quality control method used in C blood center is adopted in other blood centers, the prepared level of the blood component of the center will be improved partly.

Reduced Ceramides Are Associated with Acute Rejection in Liver Transplant Patients and Skin Graft and Hepatocyte Transplant Mice, Reducing Tolerogenic Dendritic Cells

  • We set up this study to understand the underlying mechanisms of reduced ceramides on immune cells in acute rejection (AR). The concentrations of ceramides and sphingomyelins were measured in the sera from hepatic transplant patients, skin graft mice and hepatocyte transplant mice by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Serum concentrations of C24 ceramide, C24:1 ceramide, C16:0 sphingomyelin, and C18:1 sphingomyelin were lower in liver transplantation (LT) recipients with than without AR. Comparisons with the results of LT patients with infection and cardiac transplant patients with cardiac allograft vasculopathy in humans and in mouse skin graft and hepatocyte transplant models suggested that the reduced C24 and C24:1 ceramides were specifically involved in AR. A ceramide synthase inhibitor, fumonisin B1 exacerbated allogeneic immune responses in vitro and in vivo, and reduced tolerogenic dendritic cells (tDCs), while increased P3-like plasmacytoid DCs (pDCs) in the draining lymph nodes from allogeneic skin graft mice. The results of mixed lymphocyte reactions with ceranib-2, an inhibitor of ceramidase, and C24 ceramide also support that increasing ceramide concentrations could benefit transplant recipients with AR. The results suggest increasing ceramides as novel therapeutic target for AR, where reduced ceramides were associated with the changes in DC subsets, in particular tDCs.

  • This paper reports the effect of sintering processes and additives on the microstructures and mechanical properties of $ZrB_2$-SiC composite ceramics. We fabricated sintered bodies of $ZrB_2$-20 vol.% SiC with or without sintering additive, such as C or $B_4C$, densified by spark plasma sintering as well as hot pressing. While almost full densification was achieved regardless of sintering processes or sintering additives, significant grain growth was observed in the case of spark plasma sintering, especially with $B_4C$. With sintered bodies, mechanical properties, such as flexural strength and Vickers hardness, were also examined.

  • Bottom-gate microcrystalline silicon thin film transistors (${\mu}c$-Si:H TFTs) were fabricated on glass and transparent polyimide substrates by conventional 13.56 MHz RF plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition at $200^{\circ}C$. The deposition rate of the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film is 24 nm/min and the amorphous incubation layer near the ${\mu}c$-Si:H/silicon nitride interface is unobvious. The threshold voltage of ${\mu}c$-Si:H TFTs can be improved by $H_2$ or $NH_3$ plasma pretreatment silicon nitride film.
