The effects of aging on fatigue of PSF/AS4 laminates tvas studied using the new energy release rate analysis. The analysis by the variational mechanics has been useful in providing fracture mechanics interpretation of matrix microcracking in cross-ply laminates. This paper describes the changes of the critical energy release rate ${\Delta}Gmc$(microcracking toughness) about the variation of the aging period during fatigue loading. The master plot by modified Pans-law gives a characterization of a material system's resistance to microcrack formation. PSF/AS4 $[0/902]_s$ laminates were aged at four different temperatures based on the glass transition temperature for 60 days. At all temperatures, the toughness decreased with aging time. The decrease of the toughness at higher temperature was faster than at lower temperature. To assess the effects of aging on fatigue, the unaged laminates were compared with the laminates which were aged for 60 days at $170^{\circ}C$ near $180^{\circ}C\;T_g$. The slope of dD/dN versus A 6u, of the aged laminates was lower than that of the unaged laminates. There was a significant shift of the aged data to formation of microcracks at the lower values of ${\Delta}G_m$.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal adaptation of direct class II sandwich restoration with packable composites(P-60), resin modified glass ionomer cement(Fuji-II LC), flowable compomer(Dyract Flow), flowable composites(Filtek Flow) in comparison with total bond restorations. In addition, for sandwich restorations, influence of different sandwich techniques was also evaluated. Large butt-joint box typed class II cavites with cervical margins 1mm below the cemento-enamel junction were cut into 70 extracted human molars. The cavities(7 groups, n=10) were filled using a closed/open sandwich restoration or total bond restoration technique with materials according to the manufacturer's recommandation using the single-component bonding agent for each system. Teeth were thermocycled 500 times between 5$^{\circ}C$ and 55$^{\circ}C$ with 30-second dwell time. The teeth were then coated with nail polish 1mm short of the restoration, placed in a 2% methylene blue for 24 hours, and sectioned with diamond wheel. Sections were examined with a stereoscope to determine the extent of microleakage. Dentine /Cementum margins were analyzed for microleakage on scale of 0(no leakage) to 4(entire axial wall) and interface between materials, on scale of 0(no leakage) to 3(axial wall). Results were evaluated with Kruskal Wallis Test, corrected for ties, to determine whether there were statistically significant differences among the seven groups. Pairs of groups were analyzed using the Student-Newman-Keuls Method and Dunn s Method. The results were as follows : 1. All groups showed some micoleakage in cervical portion. But there were no microleakage in interface between materials. 2. Closed sandwich restorations with Fuji-II LC and Filtek Flow had significantly lower leakage rating than total restorations with only P-60. However, open sandwich restorations with Dyract Flow showed significantly higher (P<0.05) 3. Closed sandwich restorations had significantly lower leakage rating than total restorations. However open sandwich restoration s showed significantly higher (P<0.05). 4. Sandwich restorations with Fuji-II LC were iou$.$or leakage than only P-60. Filtek Flow, Dyract Flow. But there were no statistically differences among the materials. From the results above, it could be concluded, closed sandwich restorations was effective in reducing microleakage of class II restorations. The best results showing the least microleakage were for the closed sandwich technique with Fuji-II LC and Filtek Flow.
The avoidance of enemy's radar detection is very important issue in the modem electronic weapon system. Researchers have studied to minimize reflected signals of radar. In this research, two types of radar absorbing structure (RAS), 'C'-type shell and 'U'-type shell, were fabricated using fiber-reinforced composite materials and their radar cross section (RCS) were evaluated. The absorption layer was composed of glass fiber reinforced epoxy and nano size carbon-black, and the reflection layer was fabricated with carbon fiber reinforced epoxy. During their manufacturing process, undesired thermal deformation (so called spring-back) was observed. In order to reduce spring-back, the bending angle of mold was controlled by a series of experiments. The spring-back of parts fabricated by using compensated mold was predicted by finite element analysis (ANSYS). The RCS of RAS shells were measured by compact range and predicted by physical optics method. The measured RCS data was well matched with the predicted data.
The curing behavior of glass fiber reinforced epoxy prepregs based on Bisphenol-A (BPA) was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The total heat of reaction(${\Delta}H_{total}=280.3J/g$) was determined based on the results of the dynamic heating scanning experiments. Isothermal experiments were carried out at $110{\sim}130^{\circ}C$, and it was observed that the maximum conversion and the maximum reaction rate were increased as temperature increased. Also Kamal equation was applied to analyze autocatalytic reaction of epoxy prepregs. The higher temperatures, the greater reaction rate constants ($k_1$, $k_2$). Theoretical values were calculated by these reaction rate constants and compared with experimental values. And it was confirmed that they were in reasonable agreement. At the beginning of the reaction, the experimental data and theoretical prediction were shown the same tendency, but at the end of reaction, the experimental data were smaller than theoretical predicted values due to reaction rates controlled by diffusion.

Material characteristics and lifetime evaluation are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber components. In this paper, the NBR compound was prepared by sulfur-cure system, and was used in predicting the lifetime of rubber gasket made by the compound. The accelerated material aging was investigated at different temperatures at 120, 140 and $160^{\circ}C$ and aging time from 3 hours to 600 hours at 5, 6, 7 vol %. of $H_2SO_4$ concentrations The rubber strips were placed in acid solution using pyrex g1ass tube. Both ends of pyrex g1ass tube were sealed to avoid evaporation of solution during heating at given time. The material test and accelerated acid-heat aging test were carried out to predict the useful life of NBR rubber gasket for a fuel cell stack. In order to investigate the effects of acid-heat aging on the properties of the NBR, tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness and crosslink-density were measured. The tensile strength decreases as the $H_2SO_4$ concentrations and temperature increase. Results were evaluated using Arrhenius equation.
In this study, effect of different amounts of sulfur and vulcanization accelerators in the acrylonitrile styrene-butadiene rubber (AN-SBR)/silica compounds on the properties of tire tread compound were studied. As a result, cure rate and degree of cross-linking of the compounds were increased due to enhanced cross-linking reactivity by the increased amounts of sulfur and vulcanization accelerators. Also, abrasion resistance and the mechanical properties such as hardness and modulus of the compounds were improved by enhanced degree of cross-linking of the compounds. For the dynamic properties, tan ${\delta}$ value at $0^{\circ}C$ was increased due to the increase of glass transition temperature ($T_g$) by enhanced degree of cross-linking of the compound, and tan ${\delta}$ value at $60^{\circ}C$ was decreased. Initial cure time ($t_1$) showed the linear relationship with tan ${\delta}$ value at $60^{\circ}C$. This result is attributed that reduced initial cure time ($t_1$) of compounds by applying increased amount of curatives can form cross-linking in early stage of vulcanization that may suppress development of filler network. This result is verified by observation on the surface of annealed compounds using AFM (atomic force microscopy). Consequently, decreased initial cure time is considered a very important parameter to reduce tan ${\delta}$ at $60^{\circ}C$ through reduced re-agglomeration of silica particles.
A series of polyhydroxyamides(PHAs) having ether linkages in the polymer backbone were prepared via solution polycondensation at low temperature. These polymers were studied by FT-IR, $^1H-NMR$, DSC, TGA and PCFC. The PHAs exhibited inherent viscosities in the range of $0.5{\sim}1.1dL/g\;at\;35^{\circ}C$ in DMAc solution. Most of PHAs except PHA 3 were soluble in polar organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide(DMAc), N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP), and N,N-dimethylform-amide(DMF). Subsequent thermal treatment of PHAs afforded polybenzoxazols(PBOs). However, the PBOs were insoluble in a variety of solvents. Most of the PBOs except PBO 3 showed glass-transition temperature($T_g$) in the range of $200{\sim}246^{\circ}C$ by DSC and maximum weight loss temperature in the range of $597{\sim}697^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen by TGA. PBOs showed high char yields in the range of $51{\sim}64%$. PCFC results of the PBOs showed the heat release(HR) capacity, $8{\sim}65J/gK$ and total heat release(total HR), $2.4{\sim}4.7kJ/g$.

In the last decade it has been witnessed significant developments in the area of nano particles and nano scale fillers on electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of polymeric materials such as resins, varnishes, enamel and bakelites. The electric and thermal properties were more important in the electrical equipments for both steady state and transient state conditions. This paper deals with the characterization of the electric and thermal properties of the pure varnish and zirconia (ZrO2) filler mixed varnish. The electric properties such as dielectric loss (tan δ), dielectric constant (ε), dielectric strength and partial discharge voltage were analyzed and detailed for different samples. It was observed that zirconia nano filler mixed varnish has the superior dielectric and thermal properties when compared to those of standard varnish. It has shown that at power frequency the 1wt% nano composite sample has the higher permittivity value when compared to other samples. It has been examined that the 1wt% sample was having higher inception and extinction voltages when compared to other samples. It has been observed that 1wt% sample has higher dielectric strength when compared with other samples. There has been an improvement of thermal property by adding few weight percent of zirconia nano fillers. There was not much variation in glass transition among the nano mixed composites. The weight loss was improved at 1wt% of the zirconia nano fillers.
In this study, a novel microwave absorber which consists of a structural part, a resistive sheet, and a low dielectric layer is proposed. Unlike the conventional Salisbury screen, a newly proposed absorber is capable of a range of absorbing performance, from narrowband to broadband. In the case of the narrowband absorber, the fabricated absorber with optimized design parameters has a strong resonance at 9.25 GHz and reflection loss of -44 dB with satisfying the -10 dB absorption in whole X-band (8.2 GHz~12.4 GHz). For the broadband absorber design, the reflectivity was minimized in the considered frequency ranges. The designed absorber showed two weak resonances near 6.5 GHz and 16.5 GHz and satisfied the -10 dB absorption from C-band to Ku-band (4 GHz~18 GHz). The measured reflection loss of fabricated absorber was well matched with simulation results, though the measurement was only performed on X-band. For the Salisbury screen to be capable of broadband absorption, it should be stacked multiply in a structure known as the Jaumann absorber. However, for the microwave absorber presented here, broadband as well as narrowband capabilities can be implemented without a change of the structure.
Nylon 12 elastomer was slightly crosslinked in molten state by the addition of small amount of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a crosslink agent and triallycyanuate (TAC) as a co-agent during melt compounding at $160^{\circ}C$ in an internal mixer. The effect of the peroxide crosslinking on mechanical, dynamic mechanical and rheological properties of the nylon 12 elastomer was investigated by means of tensile testing, dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and small amplitude oscillating rheometer, respectively. With modification, there is an improvement in tensile modulus and Young's modulus with decease in elongation at break. DMA results for peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomers demonstrated that the glass transiaiton temperature of PTMG segment shifted to higher temperature and the storage modulus remained constant above the melting temperature of nylon 12 segments. Melt rheological studies revealed that the peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited a more solid like behavior and stronger shear thinning behavior compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer, which was more prominent at higher TAC content in the polymer matrix. The peroxide modified nylon 12 elastomer exhibited good elastic recoverability and improved mechanical properties without sacrificing melt processibilty, and especially the service temperature range increased as compared to neat nylon 12 elastomer.
