  • The superconducting properties of YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$$O_{7-x}$(YBaCuO) thin films prepared by laser ablation have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns and surface morphology of the films were substantially different from one another. The compositional ratios of YBaCuO films were controlled by the conditions of the target-substrate distance. The YBaCuO films manufactured on MgO(100) substrate were indicated T$_{c}$(zero)=91.2 K, T$_{c}$(onset)=93 K, and J$_{c}$=3.5*10$^{5}$ A/cm$^{2}$(at 77.3K). The optimum conditions were found to be a substrate temperature of 710 .deg. C, a energy density of 2 J/cm$^{2}$, and a target-substrate distance of 60 mm in an oxygen partial pressure of 200 mTorr.0 mTorr.

  • The superconducting properties of YBa$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$$O_{7-x}$(YBaCuO) thin films prepared by laser ablation have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns of the films were substantially different from one another. The Y and Ba oxides are formed by the collisions with oxygen molecules. On the other hand, the Cu oxide is mainly formed at initial stage of the laser irradiation. The YBaCuO films manufactured on MgO(100) substrate were indicated T$_{c}$(zero)=90 K, T$_{c}$(onset)=92 K, and J$_{c}$=3.5*10$^{5}$ A/cm$^{2}$(at 77.3K).   • The technology of $C_{60}$ fullerite films preparation by means of gas-phase deposition and structure of fullerite films are described. A three-channel flow plant was used to obtain fullerite films. The films were deposited in the flow of inert gas under reduced pressure onto a cooled silicon or sapphire substrate placed inside the reaction chamber of the plant. The plant allows one to obtain the films of pure fullerenes and to synthesise the films from fullerene compounds and doped fullerenes. The structure of two types of films were investigated by FE-SEM and SEM techniques: pure fullerite films onto silicon and sapphire substrates as well as compound films were studied by FE-SEM technique. All samples have shown columnar structure with high level of porosity. The synthesis of films composed of fullerene and its compounds for use in electronics is demonstrated to be promising. For example, experiments confirm the possibility to use fullerite films in sensor electronics to produce humidity and thermal sensors. It is also possible to use the sensitivity of these films to isotropic pressure. The experiments with $C_{60}$-Cu-J films have shown quite strong dependence of their resistance on pressure of different sort of medium-gas that could be used in gas-sensitive sensors. The structure and preparation technology of resistive sensor based on fullerite films are described.bed.

  • The formation behavior of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$(Y123) and CuO phases in the heat-treated Cu-sheathed YBCO thick films was studied. The thick films were prepared by screen-printing method using $BaCO_3$ and Y211 powders on Cu tapes. The screen-printed thick films were placed at the center of the tube furnace, heated to $930^{\circ}C$ in air atmosphere and then maintained at the temperature for 60 sec - 300 sec. The microstructure and phases formed in the thick films were investigated by using optical microscope, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and SEM image analysis. During the heat treatment, partial melting occurred rapidly in the printed layers by peritectic reaction between CuO and precursor powders, and then YBCO superconducting phases nucleated from the Cu tapes and grew in a form of thick films.

고밀도 플라즈마 화학 증착 장치를 이용한 $TiB_2$ 박막 제조 (Deposition Of $TiB_2$ Films by High Density Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition)

  • The ICP-CVD (inductively coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition) process was applied to the deposition of $TiB_2$ films. For plasma generation, 13.56 MHz r.f. power was supplied to 2-turn Cu coil placed inside chamber. And the gas mixture of $TiCl_4,\;BCl_3,\;H_2$ and Ar was used for $TiB_2$ deposition. $TiB_2$ films with high hardness (<40 GPa) were obtained at extremely low deposition temperature $(250^{\circ}C)$, and the films hardness increased with ICP power and gas flow ratio of $TiCl_4/BCl_3$. The film structure was changed from (100) preferred orientation to random orientation with increasing RF power. It is supposed that the enhanced hardness of films was caused by a strong Ti-B chemical bonding of stoichiometric $TiB_2$ films and film densification induced by high density plasma.

Effect of Calcium Doping in Low Angle Grain Boundaries of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ on Textured Metal Substrates

  • We report the effect of Ca doping in $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ (YBCO) thin films grown on the Rolling- Assisted, Biaxially Textured Substrates (RABiTS) with the architecture of $CeO_2/YSZ/CeO_2/Ni$. Critical currents of bilayer and trilayer structures of $YBCO/Y_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}Ba_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$/(YCaBCO) as well as undoped YBCO for comparison have been measured in a wide range of temperatures and fields. For $6-8^{\circ}$ grain boundaries, 30% Ca-doping in bilayer structure enhances $J_c$ as high as 35%. The enhancement is larger at low temperatures and at magnetic fields. On the other hand, 30% Ca-doping in trilayer structure reduces $J_c$ as high as 60%. Combined with slightly lower $T_c$, this indicates that Ca is overdoped in this structure and degrades GBs.

  • Measurements of surface resistance ($R_s$) of high temperature superconductor (HTS) films with accuracy are essential for microwave applications of HTS materials. In using the dielectric resonator method, uncertainties in the unloaded quality factor of the resonator cause significant errors in the measured $R_s$ of HTS films. We compare the Rs values of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ films calculated from the $Q_0$ as determined from the Lorentzian fit with that from the $Q_0$ as determined from the S-parameter circle-fit at temperatures between 15 K and 77 K. The two sets of values appeared to differ by 5%, 7%, 6%, and 11% at temperatures of 15, 60, 70, and 77 K, respectively, from each other, implying that careful error analysis needs to be performed in obtaining the $R_s$ of HTS films by using the Lorentzian-fit method, with the ones determined from the S-parameter circle-fit used as the reference.
