  • We developed a telescope control system called ASTROS for the VST1 and VST2, which are specially designed radio telescopes to make a survey and have a 60-cm main dish. ASTROS is designed on the distributed intelligence concept and structurized programming. The hardware of the system is composed of several intelligent devices connected with de facto standard interfaces and main control unit is PC. The program is coded in the C language and its structure is object oriented in order to make easy to replace the component devices. ASTROS is now running on two twin telescopes, VST1 and VST2. VST1 is installed at Nobeyama in Japan and VST2 is installed at La Silla in Chile. They are making a galactic plane survey in CO (J=2-1) with 9 arcmin beam semi-automatically.

  • In this paper development of an automatic grid generation program for flow field calculation around 3D wing is described and its application is also introduced. The program is developed by using JAVA programming language and a graphic library, JOGL, and it can be usee either as an application program on a local computer or as a applet in the network environment. Currently, The program provides NACA series 4-digit airfoils as the wing cross-section shape and it offers a non-complicated GUI program which can easily generate structured grids for wings based on user's parameter input. Grid generated by the program can be selected as one of two types; O-type and C-type. In this research advancing layer method(ALM) augmented by elliptic smoothing method is used for the FLUENT. It is shown that by using current program high-quality structured grids around 3D wings can be easily generated, and typical grid generation results and flow solutions are demonstrated. Study on effects of geometric parameters on flow field is also tried by changing major wing parameters such as incidence angle type of wing-tip and sweepback angle.

  • Recent advancements in optics technology enable us to realize fast scans of hands using two-dimensional (2D) image scanners. In this paper, we propose an automatic hand measurement system using 2D image scanners for customized glove production. To develop the automatic hand measurement system, firstly hand scanning devices has been constructed. The devices are designed to block external lights and have user interface to guide hand posture during scanning. After hands are scanned, hand contour is extracted using binary image processing, noise elimination and outline tracing. And then, 19 hand landmarks are automatically detected using an automatic hand landmark detection algorithm based on geometric feature analysis. Then, automatic hand measurement program is executed based on the automatically extracted landmarks and measurement algorithms. The automatic hand measurement algorithms have been developed for 18 hand measurements required for custom-made glove pattern making. The program has been coded using the C++ programming language. We have implemented experiments to demonstrate the validity of the system using 11 subjects (8 males, 3 females) by comparing automatic 2D scan measurements with manual measurements. The result shows that the automatic 2D scan measurements are acceptable in the customized glove making industry. Our evaluation results confirm its effectiveness and robustness.

  • In this paper, an efficient hardware architecture of Lempel-Ziv compressor for real time data compression is proposed. The accumulated shift operations in the Lempel-Ziv algorithm are the major problem, because many shift operations are needed to prepare a dictionary buffer and matching symbols. A new efficient architecture for the fast processing of Lempel-Ziv algorithm is presented in this paper. In this architecture, the optimization technique for dictionary size, a new comparing method of multi symbol and a rotational FIFO structure are used to control shift operations easily. For the functional verification, this architecture was modeled by C programming language, and its operation was verified by running on commercial DSP processor. Also, the design of overall architecture in VHDL was synthesized on commercial FPGA chip. The result of critical path analysis shows that this architecture runs well at the input bit rate of 256kbps with 33MHz clock frequency.

  • This paper describes interactive computer procedures for design the forming sequences in cold forging. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial AutoCAD system. The programming language. AutoLISP, was used for the configuration of the system. Since the process of metal forming can be considered as a transformation of geometry, treatment of the geometry of the part is a key in process planning. To recognize the part section geometry, the section entity representation, the section coordinate-redius representation and the section primitive geometru were adopted. This system includes six major modules such as input module, forging design module, forming sequence design module, die design module, FEM verification module and output module which are used independently or in all. The sequence drawing wigh all dimensions, which includes the dimensional tolerances and the proper sequence of operations, can generate under the environment of AutoCAD. The acceptable forming sequences can be verified further, using the FE simulation.

  • In this study, some of the recently reported data processing strategies were evaluated and modified based on their capabilities and a brief workflow for data mining was redefined for Q-TOF LC-MS based untargeted metabolomics. Commercial pooled human plasma samples were used for this purpose. An ultrafiltration procedure was applied on sample preparation. Sample set was analyzed through Q-TOF LC/MS. A C18 column (Agilent Zorbax 1.8 µM, 50 × 2.1 mm) was used for chromatographic separation. Raw chromatograms were processed using XCMS - R programming language edition and Isotopologue Parameter Optimization (IPO) was used to optimize XCMS parameters. The raw XCMS table was processed using MS Excel to find reliable and reproducible peaks. Totally 1650 reliable and reproducible potential metabolite peaks were found based on the data processing procedures given in this paper. The redefined dataset was upload into MetaboAnalyst platform and the identified metabolites were matched with 86 metabolic pathways. Thus, two list were obtained and presented in this study as supplement files. The first list is to present the retention times and m/z values of detected metabolite peaks. The second list is the metabolic pathways related with the identified metabolites. The briefly described data processing strategies and dataset presented in this study could be beneficial for the researchers working on untargeted metabolomics for processing their data and validating their results.

  • Recently, as business problems become more complicated and require more precise quantitative results, large-scale model management systems are increasingly in demand for supporting the decision-making activities. In addition, as distributed computing over networks gains popularity, departmental computing systems are gradually adopted in an organization to facilitate collaboration of geographically dispersed multiple departments. In departmental collaborative model management systems, multiple departments share common models but approach them with different user-views depending on their departmental needs. Moreover, the shared models become evolved as their structures and the corresponding data sets change due to the dynamic nature of the operating environment and the inherent uncertainty associated with the problems. In such capacity, providing the multiple departmental users with synchronized and consistent views of the models is important to improve the overall productivity. In this paper, we propose a collaborative model management framework for coordinating model change and automatic user-view update in a departmental computing environment. To do so, we describes changes in the model and their effects occurred in departmental model management environments and identifies the constructs and processes for maintaining the consistency between a shared model and its departmental user-views. Especially, in this framework, generic model concept was adopted for accommodating diverse mathematical models in a uniform way in a modelbase and object-oriented database management systems(ODBMS) for combining the model management constructs and automatic user-view update mechanisms in a single formalism. A prototype object-oriented modeling environment was developed using an ODBMS called ObjectStore and $C^{++}$ programming language on Windows NT.

  • Group collaborative systems are recently emerging to support a group of users engaged in common tasks such as group decision making, engineering design, or collaborative writing. Simultaneously, as communications networks and distributed database systems become core underlying architecture of the organization, the need of collaborative systems are gaining more attentions from industry. In such collaborative systems, as the shared objects may evolve constantly or change for operational purposes, providing the users with synchronized and consistent views of the shared object and maintaining the consistency between shared object and replicated objects are important to improve the overall productivity. This paper provides an change management framework for the group collaborative systems to facilitate managing dependency relationships between shared objects and dependents, and coordinating change and propagation activities in distributed computing environments. Specifically, the framework adopts an object-oriented database paradigm and presents several object constructs capturing dependency management and change notification mechanisms. And the proposed framework accommodates both persistent dependents such as replicated data and transient dependents such as various user views in a single formalism. A prototype system is developed on a commercial object-oriented database management system called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.

  • The purpose of this study is to design and implement a 2-level secret information transmission system which can be used for information hiding of images transmitted over various IT communication media. To increase the robustness of the hiding power, we combined the steganography method which inserts secret object into cover object to hide the very fact of information hiding itself, and the preprocessing stage to encrypt the secret object before the stego-insertion stage. As a result, even when the stego-image is broken by an attacker, the secret image is protected by encryption. We implemented the 2-level image insertion and extraction algorithm by using C++ programming language. Experiment shows that the PSNR values of stego-images of ours exceed 30.00db which is the threshold of human recognition. The methodology of this study can be applied broadly to the information hiding and protection of the military secret images.

  • We discuss development of a simulator for automated manufacturing systems (AMSs) which have sophisticated automated material handling equipments and complicated work flows. The simulator is designed to satisfy the following requirements. A user should be able to easily configure or specify an AMS through a graphical user interface (GUI) and minimal data input. The user should be able to model diverse and complied control logic for automated material handling systems like automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, robot workcell systems and conveyor systems as well as complicated job flow program. Real time animation is desired. Finally, the simulator should be easily maintained and extended. To satisfy the requirements, we use an object-oriented paradigm for modeling, designing, and programming of the simulator. We use an object-oriented modeling framework to design the modeling elements library, and take the process interaction approach for scheduling processes and events. To model a user-defined diverse control logic, we also develop a script language and its interpreter. We explain design and implementation strategies. We implement the simulator using Visual C++ 4.2 and Open GL on Windows NT and the Windows95. Some modeling examples will be demonstrated.
