The purpose of this study is to offer detailed topographic information for substantially selecting the yarding machine for mechanized yarding operations, classifying the forest site by cluster analysis and principal component analysis, and investigating simultaneously the variables which give much influence on the classification of forest site in forestry build-up region (21, 477ha) of Chunchon Gun, Kwangweon Do. Ten topographic variables were used for the analysis. The results of study were as follows : 1) Gosung region (2, 252ha) was classified into hilly terrain (57%) and steep terrain (43%) and required the tractor prehauling system for the former one and the medium skyline system for latter one, respectively. 2) 65% of Gajung region (2,306ha) and 67% of Kwangpan region (2, 627ha) were classified into steep terrain fitted for the medium skyline system and the portion of both region showed the hilly terrain for the tractor prehauling system. 3) Jiam region (4, 591ha), consisted only of steep terrain, required the medium skyline system. 4) Gunja region (3, 400ha), Sudong region (3, 984ha) and Sinpo region (2, 340ha) were classified into steep terrain, requiring the medium skyline system, with 85%, 75%, and 75%, respectively.
RDA has been conducting soil survey for farmland all over the korean countries (1964-1999), including small islands and areas of the civilian passage restriction line (2000-present). We conducted a soil survey in Dokdo and Ulreungdo islands and found a new soil series "Dokdo" in Dokdo island. Soil properties of Dokdo were similar to those of Ulreungdo. Representative profiles of Dokdo soil was located at the south 20m of Daehan peak on Seodo (longitude $131^{\circ}$51'53", latitude $37^{\circ}$14'35"), Dokdo. The soil series "Dokdo" was interpreted as the soils were derived from trachyandesite, trachyte, rhyolite, and tuff. The soil properties of Dokdo series were classified as different ones from Korean soil series previously. The soil depth of Dokdo series was very shallow (0-20cm) and soil layer was consisted of very dark brown (10YR 2/2) rocky sandy loam and dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) gravelly silt loam in AC layer. The soils of Dokdo displayed characteristics of a mesic temperature regime, similar as Ulreungdo soils, which were classified as coarse loamy, mesic family of Lithic Udorthents. The total area of Dokdo soil was 18.7 ha, containing Dongdo (7.3 ha), Seodo (8.9 ha), and the others (2.6 ha). The area of Dokdo series in Dokdo was 10.47 ha (Dongdo 4.13 ha, Seodo 6.34 ha) and 808.56 ha in Ulreungdo, where the total soil area was 7,256 ha.

Aerosol Deposition (AD) is anovel way to fabricate bioactive ceramic coatings in biomedical implants and prostheses applications. In the present work, silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings on commercially pure titanium were prepared by aerosol deposition using Si-HA powders. The incorporation of silicon in the HA lattice is known to improve the bioactivity of the HA, makingsilicon-substitute HA an attractive alternative to pure HA in biomedical applications. Si-HA powders with the chemical formula $Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6-x(SiO_4)x(OH)_2-x$, having silicon contents up to x=0.5 (1.4 wt%), were synthesized by solid-state reaction of $Ca_2P_2O_7$, $CaCO_3$, and $SiO_2$. The Si-HA powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR). The corresponding coatings were also analyzed by XRD, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). The results revealed that a single-phase Si-HA was obtained without any secondary phases such as $\alpha$- or $\beta$-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) for both the powders and the coatings. The Si-HA coating was about $5\;{\mu}m$ thick, had a densemicrostructure with no cracks or pores. In addition, the proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblast cells grown on the Si-HA coatings were significantly higher than those on the bare Ti and pure HA coating. These results revealed the stimulatory effects induced by siliconsubstitution on the cellular response to the HA coating.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the asthma-suppressive and immuno-regulatory effect of NR-HA(Notopterygii Rhizoma Herbal-acupuncture) at Pyesu(BL13) on OVA(ovalbumin)-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice out of all the experimental sloops, except the Normal group and the NR-HA group, were sensitized and challenged with OVA. The mice in the NR-HA group and the OVA-NR-HA group were treated with NR-HA(1%) at Pyesu(BL13). The mice in the OVA-Saline group were injected with saline at Pyesu(BL13). The mice in the OVA-Needle-prick group were treated with a single prick with an injection needle at Pyesu(BL13). NR-HA, saline injection and needle prick were administered for 8 weeks, three times a week Results : in vitro 1. The populations of granulocytes, $CD3e^-/CCR3^+$cells, $CD69^+/CD3e^+$ cells, $CD4^+\;cells\;and\;CD23^+/B220^+$ cells in the OVA-induced asthmatic mouse lungs decreased significantly by NR-HAS(Notopterygii Rhizoma Herbal-acupuncture solution). 2. The lung weight and total cells in lung of the OVA-NR-HA group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Control group. 3. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the OVA-NR-HA group decreas ed significantly compared with those of the OVA-Control group. 4. The collagen accumulation in the lung sections of the OVA-NR-HA group decreased significantly compared with that of the OVA-control group. 5. The concentrations of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, IgE in BALF and serum of the OVA-NR-HA group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA- Control group. 6. The numbers of $Gr-1^+/CD11b^+,\;CCR3^+,\;CD3e^+, \;CD19^+,\;CD3e^+/CD69^+$ cells in the OVA-NR-HA group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA-Control group. 7. The mRNA expressions of $TNF-{\alpha}$, IL-5, IL-4 and IL-13 in lung of the OVA-NR-HA group decreased significantly compared with those of the OVA- Control group. 8. The NR-HA group did not show my considerable difference from the Normal group. The OVA-saline group and the OVA-Needle prick group showed suppressive effects on OVA-induced asthma however they were not statistically significant. Conclusion : These results suggest that NR-HA at Pyesu(BL13) is considered to be effective in treating asthma and to be put to practical use in the future asthma clinic.
Recent climatic changes by global warming include increased amount and intensity of rainfall. This study was conducted to find out possible roles of turfgrasses to reduce the impact of climatic changes, especially surface soil erosion. Soil erosions by intensive rain were measured after each significant precipitation from the artificially sloped plots of zoysiagrass, cool-season grass mixture of Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass and other typical korean summer crops. Sodded zoysiagrass resulted in minimal annual soil erosion followed by strip-sodded zoysiagrass and cool-season turfgrass mixture while dry-field rice and bean cultivations eroded the surface soils of 5 to 10 MT $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ and pepper cultivation resulted in 7 to 14 MT $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ annual loss of surface soil. Annual loss of surface soil from bare land with hand weeding was up to 18 MT $ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ while greatly reduced soil erosion was observed from weed grown treatment.

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Alismatis Rhizoma Herbal-acupuncture( AR-HA) at $KI_{10}$(Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in rat. Methods : Rats were injected with LPS to induce nephritis. The rats in $KI_{10}$-AR-HA group were treated with AR-HA, $KI_{10}$-NP group with needle prick, $KI_{10}$-saline group with normal saline injection respectively at $KI_{10}$ three times for a week. Several experimental items were performed including measurements of the numbers of RBC, WBC, neutrophil in blood, the levels of creatinine, $TNF-{\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine, MPO in kidney. Results : Needle prick stimulation at $KI_{10}$ significantly reduced WBC in blood of LPS-stimulated rats. Saline injection at $KI_{10}$ significantly reduced WBC in blood, $TNF-{\alpha}$ in serum, total protein in urine of LPS-stimulated rats. AR-HA at $KI_{10}$ significantly reduced WBC, neutrophil in blood, $TNF-{\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusion : AR-HA at $KI_{10}$ has a therapeutic effect on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rat. There may be a synergism between $KI_{10}$(Umgok) stimulation and AR-HA solution.
Objective & Methods: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Artemisiae Capillaris Herba herbal-acupuncture (ACH-HA) at GB34 (Yangleungchean) on hyperlipidemia induced with alloxan injection and high fat diet in rats. The author performed several experimental items to analyze the levels of various components and enzymes in serum, liver, as well as the histological changes of liver and aorta. Results: 1. ACH-HA solution increased the DPPH radical scavenging activity in rat liver cells. 2. ACH-HA at GB34 significantly decreased the levels of serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, free cholesterol and atherogenic index (AI), while significantly increased the ratios of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)/total cholesterol and phospholipid/total cholesterol in hyperlipidemic rats. 3. ACH-HA at GB34 significantly decreased serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level in hyperlipidemic rats. 4. ACH-HA at GB34 significantly increased hepatic glutathione (GSH) activity in hyperlipidemic rats. Conclusion: From the above results, it is suggested that ACH-HA at GB34 may have therapeutic and preventive effects on hyperlipidemia.
To control forest fire effectively, it is necessary to understand forest fire behavior and relevance to forest fire environmental factors. In this paper, the behavior characteristics of the 2005 Yangyang forest fire were analyzed into the spread patterns and severity grades. The spread processes of the forest fire could be divided into two steps. At the first step, the fire ran fast to the east due to the strong west wind and then spreaded out in irregular direction. The maximum spread rate of the fire was 1.21km/hr and the mean was 0.65 km/hr. The result of the fire severity classification indicated that about $80\%$(1,110ha) of the whole study site was extremely burned and the remaining $15\%(211 ha)\;and\;5\%(61 ha)$ were damaged slightly and moderately respectively.

Objectives : This study was carried out to investigate anti-oxidative effects of Taraxaci Herba (TH) and protective effects on Human HaCaT keratinocyte. Methods : Anti-oxidative effects were measured by estimating the amount of total phenolics and flavonoids. In addition, DPPH free radical scavenging activities were estimated. Protective effects of TH on HaCaT keratinocytes against oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide were also measured. Results : In our results, treatment with TH did not show cytotoxicity on HaCaT keratinocyte beneath the concentration of 200 $\mu$g/ml. 42.64$\pm$1.90 $\mu$g/ml of total phenolics and 28.09$\pm$1.84 $\mu$g/ml of flavonoids was detected from TH ethanol extract. In addition, DPPH free radical scavenging activities of TH were elevated in dose-dependent manner. In addition, The value of half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC$_{50}$) was 165.5 $\mu$g/ml. Finally, TH showed protective effect against cell death of HaCaT cell induced by hydrogen peroxide significantly. Conclusions : In conclusion, these results suggest that TH may have anti-oxidantic action in human skin and also suggest the possibility as cosmetic material.

This paper studies the scheduling problem of storing and retrieving assembly blocks in a temporary storage yard. The objective is to minimize the number of relocations of blocks while the constraints for storage and retrieval time windows are satisfied. We present an integer programming model based on multi-commodity network flows, and the three revised models based on the properties of the problem. We show that the revised models are more efficient than the generic model through the numerical experiments.
