  • The purpose of this study was to develop fashion designs using masks on the basis of plasticity of masks. This study was conducted both theoretically and empirically. In a theoretical study, mask-related research and fashion-related literature were examined. In an empirical study, masks used in collections since the 1990's were analyzed through fashion magazines and fashion web sites. Based on such theoretical researches, masks used in modern fashion collections were divided into accessories and clothing to analyze and three fashion designs were developed on the basis of results described above. This study intended to express a romantic look with primitive mood that added formative elements of a mask to the design concept of "Romantic-Primitive". First, forms of masks were simplified and deconstructed and then some methods such as textile printing, leather handicraft, or applique were expressed.

  • Advances in information and telecommunications technology are producing unprecedented shifts in the way businesses conduct their business, Today, electronic commerce is becoming pervasive due to, in large part, the widespread use of Internet and Worldwide Web. One element that plays an important role in shaping the success of electronic commerce is the electronic payment system. Deficiency in its reliability and security may lead to unwanted outcomes, including economic losses and customer dissatisfaction. By far, numerous forms of electronic payment systems have been introduced in the virtual marketplace. However, there exists little research that has focused on the characteristics of the electronic payment systems such that they may be compared with one another. This article is aimed at providing a framework for comparative analysis of electronic payment systems, examining the characteristics of the individual payment systems, and suggesting a choice strategy which enables a firm to select an appropriate payment system suited to their business needs. The framework classifies electronic payment systems into four categories including electronic cash, electronic checks, credit cards, and smart cards, and it can be employed in planning for an electronic commerce system.

  • There has been a surge of interest in private equity as an alternative corporate restructuring scheme to complement the current institutional forms such as workouts and court receivership. By empirically examining whether private equity in Korea can improve investee companies, we find that while private equity in Korea did not sacrifice the long-term growth potential of investee firms, it did not improve their profitability (e.g. ROA, ROE, and ROS) or growth (e.g. sales growth) either. Both the negative correlation between business performance and firm age and our empirical results showing that young firms were favored by private equity for investment imply that Korean private equity may perform as growth capital, similar to venture capital rather than as buyouts for corporate restructuring.

  • Purpose - This aim of this study is to examine how conglomerates in Korea have evolved from the perspective of institutional economics. The growth of the economy, dominated by large conglomerates, is projected in light of the dynamic equilibrium between government and capitalists. Research design, data, and methodology - The historical formation of big business groups is examined in chronological order. For the analysis, we divide the assessment into three different eras: Japanese colonial rule, liberation up to the civil war, and the fast growing period since the military coup. Each period is viewed as a dynamic equilibrium that is shaped by economic agents. Results and Conclusion - Despite the rise of modern commerce during the colonial era, contemporary conglomerates came into being with the "enemy property" allotted by the government. Around the civil war, the government coexisted with prototype conglomerates through foreign aid. As the external aid decreased, the system could not be sustained anymore, thus the military coup took place. The reinstated strong bond between government and the conglomerates has shaped the forms of the modern conglomerates thereafter.
