  • This research aims to analyze the effect of different types of urban parks and their locational characteristics on the apartment price in the entire metropolitan area of Busan, Korea. Although an urban park is an environmental good that influences the surroundings in many ways, most of the previous studies have underestimated its impact on the value of the surrounding area. This research focuses on the economic value of urban parks by understanding their relationship with the value of the apartments in the surrounding area with its significance in their physical and objective characteristics. Furthermore, the research emphasizes the different typological characteristics of urban parks in the analysis. In summary of the result, the number of levels (stories) and units of the apartment complex, ranking of the contractor, age of a park and accessibility to sub-central are positively related to the price of apartment units. On the other hand, the total area of apartment complex, the age of apartments, the distance to the nearest park and accessibility to civic-central or regional district are negatively related to the price of apartment units. Having a plan for constructing a park is also positively related to the price. For the typological characters of a park, neighborhood park, small-sized park, and sports park are positively related to the price, while children's park is negatively related to the price of apartment units. Considering that the price increases as the distance to the nearest park decreases, people prefer to live near the benefits that urban parks provide. In order to maximize the value and benefits that parks provide, it is necessary to approach them creatively.

  • This study developed an ecological mapping technique with GIS database using the analyses of existing ecological survey reports and the change detection on the Nakdong river estuary. The data which are used to establish GIS DB include 2 Landsat TM images on Nov. 31, 1984 and May 17, 1997, 1:25,000 topographical maps established by National Geography Institution and various ecological survey reports published by Busan metropolitan city government. The details for producing ecological map are as follows. At first, the current methods of ecomapping efforts and previous ecological surveys of Nakdong river estuary were carefully examined. Secondly, the land cover maps were created from the classified Landsat images of 1984 and 1997 for the spatiotemporal ecosystem analysis. Thirdly, the ecosystem was evaluated by using GIS ecological database based on the criteria of botany, zoology and water quality etc. Each criteria was reclassified into 3 stages which describe the overall quality of ecological condition. At last, the comprehensive ecological map was suggested as a prototype of ecosystem assesment and management tool with the discussion of further study. The findings of this study would be a milestone for preserving and managing the ecosystem.

  • The Purpose of this study is the applicaion of social network analysis for expanding the use of spatial data in local government. Spatial data generated from UIS projects play very important roles as a means of supporting decision making and solving complicated urban problems, but the utilization of the spatial data has not reach the expected level, considering to the huge amount of investment. Accordingly, there should be efforts in efficient management of spatial data, establishment of a sharing system, and expanded utilization of spatial data. Social network analysis applied to this research is a theory that explains the behaviors and patterns of units forming the system and measures distances between nodes, strength, etc. based on relations among nodes forming the network and the structural characteristics of the network. According to the results of surveying civil servants who were using spatial data on Busan Metropolitan City, obstacles to the sharing of spatial data were mostly non technical factors related to data users' attitude and their relations with circumstances. In order to expand the use of spatial data, this study performed social network analysis that applied the theory of planned behavior and examined the flow of spatial data, and by doing so, we analyzed related personnel's perception, identified obstacles to data sharing, and suggested a framework for promoting the expanded utilization of spatial data.

  • This study was performed to determine effects of dietary inclusion of various concentrations and sources of sea tangle Laminaria japonica on growth, body composition and plasma chemistry of juvenile black porgy Acanthopagrus schlegeli. Juvenile fish (N=810; average mass=8.9 g) were distributed among twenty-seven 200 L flow-through tanks (30 fish per tank). Nine experimental diets were prepared: control (Con) without additives; sea tangle powder at 0.1%, 0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 5%, (P-0.1, P-0.5, P-1, P-3 and P-5 diets, respectively); and fresh sea tangle (F-1); and 1% sea tangle extract (E-1). Each powdered additive was substituted for an eqaul amount of wheat flour, and the extract was substituted for an equal amount of water in the respective experiemtnal diets. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish. Weight gain and feed conversion ratio were not affected by the experimental diets. Feed consumption by fish fed the P-1 diet was higher than that of fish fed the P-3 and P-5 diets. Moisture, crude protein, crude lipid, whole-body ash content (excluding the liver), liver moisture, and crude protein and lipid contents of fish were not affected by the experimental diets. None of the fish plasma criteria were affected by the experimental diets, with the exception of plasma glucose. In conclusion, dietary inclusion of various concentrations and sources of sea tangle did not significantly affect the growth, feed efficiency, body composition or plasma chemistry of juvenile black porgy.

  • This study aims to calculate optimal travel speeds based on analysis of the AVI data collected in the uninterrupted traffic flow, and the results are as follows. Firstly, we looked into the distribution of the sectional travel times of each probe vehicle and compared the difference in the sectional travel speeds of each probe vehicle. As a result, it is shown that outliers should be removed for the distribution of the sectional travel times. Secondly, there were differences among type 1(passenger automobiles) & type 2(automobiles for passengers and freight) and type 4(special automobiles) in the non-congestion section. thus it was revealed that there is a necessity to remove type 4(special automobiles) when calculating the sectional travel speeds. Thirdly, Based on the results of these, the optimal outlier removal procedures were applied to this study. As a result, it showed that the MAPE was between 0.3% and 2.0% and RMSE was between 0.3 and 2.3 which are very similar figures to the actual average traffic speed. Also, the minimum sample size was satisfied at the confidence level of 95%. The result of study is expected to serve as a useful basis for the local government to build the AVI. In the future, it will be necessary to study to integrate AVI data and other data for more accurate traffic information.

  • This study involved elementary schoolchildren in Busan Metropolitan city and assumed the foundation of social cooperative associations that provide education services for meteorological fields, then we analyzed expected profits in a year for successful operation of first year. Twelve variables relating to profits and expenses were derived, and we used the decision tree for analyzing optimal expected profits. Profit-related variables were lecture's fee per hour and price of textbooks. Expense-related variables were production costs for the textbooks, annual salary for a teacher, education costs for a teacher, developing costs for the textbooks, traveling expenses, rental fees, and operating costs. Besides, by adding education demands, the number of grades, and the number of teachers, we analyzed changes in expected profits, considering variability of profits and expenses. As a result, despite of expected lower demands, to increase price of textbooks and education costs per hour was of advantage to enhance expected profits. The reason is that the more demand, the more increased production costs for textbooks, which is because not to make enough profits to offset the increased expenses due to lowered price of textbooks and education costs. Considering the value of public interest for social cooperative associations, price determination only concerning increase in demands will be avoided.

  • This study characterized groundwater quality and the influence of agrochemicals in a part of Ilgwang-Myeon agricultural area in Gijang-Gun, Busan Metropolitan City, using factor analyses. From the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd analyses of groundwater samples, the mean concentrations of $Ca^{2+}$, $Na^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $K^+$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$, $Al^{3+}$, $NO_3\;^-$, $Cl^-$, $SO_4\;^{2-}$, $F^-$, and $SiO_2$ were higher in the 2nd analysis than the other analyses. Pesticide carbofuran and herbicide alachlor were detected at the wells more than a half of all the wells in the 2nd analysis but not in the 4th analysis. This fact may be explained by that a higher precipitation induced higher infiltration rate of contaminants into groundwater during the 2nd survey. According to R- and Q-mode factor analyses, and chemical composition, inorganic constituents excepting $SiO_2$, $HC0_3\;^-$-, and $F^-$ may be influenced by anthropogenic sources (manures, synthetic fertilizers, and domestic wastes), seawater as well as water-mineral interaction. A typical indicator of groundwater contamination, nitrate, exceeds around 4-5 times over the Korean standard for drinking water. Additionally, the influence of seawater diminishes from the seaside to inland.
