In the event of a short-circuit accident on a 4.16 kV non-safety bus, the voltage is temporarily lowered as backflow occurs on the safety bus. In such cases, the undervoltage relay of the safety bus shall not pick up the undervoltage so as not to interfere with the operation of the safety motors. The aim of this study is to develop an adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for the 4.16 kV safety bus considering the faults on the 13.8 kV and 4.16 kV non-safety buses connected to secondary windings of the three winding transformers, UAT and SAT. The result of this study will be the adaptive undervoltage protection scheme for the safety bus of nuclear power plants satisfying functional requirements of the safety related medium voltage motors. The adaptive undervoltage protection scheme can be implemented into an integrated digital protective relay to make user friendly and reliable protection scheme.

A conventional variable percentage current differential relaying algorithm for bus protection may misoperate for external faults with severe CT saturation and internal faults with high impedance. This paper proposes a percentage differential current relaying algorithm for bus protection combined with a compensating algorithm of secondary currents of CTs. Even though CTs are saturated and their secondary currents are severely distorted, the proposed relaying algorithm does not only misoperate for external faults with CT saturation but also detects the internal faults with high fault impedance. Thus, the method improves the sensitivity of the relays and does not require any counterplan for CT saturation.
A variable percentage current differential relaying algorithm is widely used for bus protection. However, it may maloperate in case of high-impedance internal faults and external faults with CT saturation and thus additional method to cope with CT saturation is necessary. This paper proposes a percentage current differential relaying algorithm for bus protection using a compensating algorithm of secondary current of CTs. As the proposed method compensates the distorted secondary currents of CTs it can improves the sensitivity of relays in a large current region and does not need any additional method for CT saturation.
A percentage current differential relaying algorithm is widely used for bus protection. However, it may maloperate external faults with CT saturation. This paper proposes a percentage current differential relaying algorithm for bus protection using CT saturation detecting algorithm. The CT saturation detecting algorithm uses difference of secondary current of CT and detects CT saturation. The proposed method distinguishes percentage differential relay operation caused by faults from percentage differential relay operation caused by CT saturations.
In this paper, sensitivity based approach to estimate BITC(bilateral interchange transfer capacity) considering the real power flow control function of FACTS device is presented. The real power flow setting of the FACTS device is adjusted so that it transfer the power flow from the first violation point of transmission capacity to other transmission lines in the power system, thus allowing more power to be transferred from the specified generator bus to the specified load bus. The transfer between the two bus locations is increased from this new operating condition until a violation of transmission capacity limits occurs or until the setting of the FACTS device can no longer be adjusted. The proposed algorithm is illustrated using examples of small and real life power system.
This paper describes the effect of distributed generations (DG) on the bus protection scheme. When the generating capacity of DG is larger than 3 MVA totally, DG are generally connected to the 22.9 kV bus directly with the dedicated line. Due to the fault current contribution of DG, the overcurrent protective relay that have conventional set value cannot detect the fault occurred in distribution power network with DG. Therefore. the impacts from interconnection of DG on the overcurrent protective relay for bus protection should be accurately assessed and mitigated. Simulation results show that it would be necessary to modify the overcurrent protective relay set value for protecting the bus according to the generating capacity of DG.

The proliferation of technology has made global conduction of business increasingly dependent upon the availability of reliable power. As a result, alternate power systems are being installed and expanded to protect the broadening scope of critical electrical loads. Bus transfer restores designated critical loads to an alternate source when utility derived service becomes inadequate or goes out of service due to any contingency. This paper describes the practices, requirements and implementation of bus transfer of motor loads to an alternate source of power. A new high-speed automatic bus transfer scheme is proposed which includes the development of a new algorithm for determining the type of bus transfer required and the realization of the scheme by using modem protection devices and intra-substation communication facilities.
In this paper, the fault analysis program that is convenient to analyse fault records of a digital relay and to set a digital relay is described. The key feature of this fault analysis program is as follows. - analysing fault records stored in a local PC and/or a digital relay - analysing events - setting a digital relay. This program is for a digital bus protection relay using a conventional variable percentage current differential relaying algorithm. So this program adds a function analysing the characteristic of each variable percentage current differential function and the connection state of the transmission lines at double-bus system.
This study investigates the structural integrity of the amphibious tour bus under the rollover condition. The multi-purpose bus called Dual Mode Tour Bus (DMTB) which explores on land and water has been designed on top of a truck platform. Prior to the fabrication of new upper body and sailing equipment of DMTB, computational analysis investigates the rollover protection of the proposed structure including superstructure, wheels, and axles. The Computer-Aided Design (CAD) of the whole vehicle model is meshed and preprocessed under high performance using the Altair HyperMesh to attain the best mesh model suited for finite element analysis (FEA) on the proposed system. Meanwhile, the numerical model is analyzed by employing LS-DYNA to evaluate the superstructure strength. The numerical model includes detail information about the microstructure and considers wheels and axles as rigid bodies but excludes window glasses, seats, and interior parts. Based on the simulation analysis and proper modifications especially on the rear portion of the bus, the local stiffness significantly increased. The vehicle is rotated to the contact point on the ground based on the mathematical method presented in this study to save computational cost. The results show that the proposed method of rollover analysis is highly significant not only in bus rollover tests but in crashworthiness studies for other application. The critical impartments in our suggested dual-purpose bus accepted and passed "Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) R66".
