A Study on the Improving Effectiveness of Shipboard Electric Propulsion System with Ultra-capacitor Energy Storage Devices (울트라 캐패시터 에너지 저장장치를 적용한 함정 전기추진 시스템의 효용성 증대 연구)

  • Recently, integrated electric propulsion system has been vigorously adopted into naval vessels. To enhance effectiveness and efficiency of power management in these propulsion systems, this paper investigates necessity of energy storage devices and their operation strategies. By introducing the energy storage devices, engine can operate at higher efficiency point and accordingly costs for fuel and maintenance are significantly reduced. In addition, transient performance can also be improved with support of the devices and it leads to stable operation of shipboard power bus. To validate the proposal of this paper, computer simulation has been conducted with real load data of existing electric propulsion system.

  • The B-coefficient method is well-known and universally used method for its simplicity and computation speed. However, the B-coefficient method has a weak point of accuracy when it is applied to the ill-conditioned systems where generators produce excessive reactive power. This paper describes the developed module to be applied to commercial program package of calculating the penalty factors by Jacobian method. The effectiveness of the proposed program has been demonstrated using the IEEE 30 bus system.

  • This paper studies on effective rescheduling of generation when the single line contingency has occurred in power system with wind farm. The suggested method is formulated to minimize the rescheduling cost of conventional and wind generators to alleviate congestion. The generator rescheduling method has been used with incorporation of wind farms in the power system. Since all sensitivity is different about congestion line, Line Outage Distribution Factor(LODF) and Generator Sensitivity Factor(GSF) is used to alleviate congestion. The formulation have been proccessed using linear programming(LP) optimization techniques to alleviate transmission congestion. The effectiveness of the proposed rescheduling of generation method has been analyzed on revised IEEE 30-bus systems.

  • This paper describes the communication system of sequencing sorter. Generally sequencing sorter is a machine that sorts mails by delivery order. And designed sequencing sorter is composed of 5 physical modules. So, it is necessary to communicate with each module and to control this communication. A computer called Machine Management Computer, controls this. This paper is about the communication system with MMC and module controllers. This is PC-based, asynchronous full-duplex 4-wire serial systems. 3 protocol layers are presented and stop-and-wait flow control is adopted. Because designed sequencing sorter has to be operated high speed about 27,000 letters per hour, we analyzed the network traffic in the worst case. So, we could find that the communication system has to use above 115,200bps speed.

  • The salient features of UWB(Ultra WideBand) networks such as high-rate communications, low interference with other radio systems, and low power consumption bring many benefits to users, thus enabling several new applications such as wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) for connecting personal computers (PCs) to their peripherals and the consumer-electronics (CE) in people's living rooms. Because the size of multimedia data frame, WiMedia device must transmit the fragment of MSDU. However, when the fragment of MSDU is lost, WiMedia device maintains active mode for the time to complete the transmission MSDU, and there is a problem that unnecessary power consumption occurs. Therefore we propose new power management scheme to reduce unnecessary power consumption of WiMedia devices in the case that the fragment is lost.

  • High-speed 3D vision systems are essential for autonomous robot or vehicle control applications. In our study, a stereo vision process has been developed. It consists of three steps : extraction of edges in right and left images, matching corresponding edges and calculation of the 3D map. This process is implemented in a VME 150/40 Imaging Technology vision system. It is a modular system composed by a display, an acquisition, a four Mbytes image frame memory, and three computational cards. Programmable accelerator computational modules are running at 40 MHz and are based on TMS320C31 DSP with a $64{\times}32$ bit instruction cache and two $1024{\times}32$ bit internal RAMs. Each is equipped with 512 Kbytes static RAM, 4 Mbytes image memory, 1 Mbytes flash EEPROM and a serial port. Data transfers and communications between modules are provided by three 8 bit global video bus, and three local configurable pipeline 8 bit video bus. The VME bus is dedicated to system management. Tasks between DSPs are distributed as follows: two DSPs are used to edges detection, one for the right image and the other for the left one. The last processor computes the matching process and the 3D calculation. With $512{\times}512$ pixels images, this sensor generates dense 3D maps at a rate of about 1 Hz depending of the scene complexity. Results can surely be improved by using a special suited multiprocessors cards.

  • A variety of systems have been attempted for effective urban management. In this paper we introduce the Integrated Urban Management System (IUMS), which consists mainly of an optical line terminal (OLT), optical network terminals (ONTs) and wireless access points (APs), by combining passive optical network (PON) and radio over fiber (RoF) technologies so as to take advantage of both systems. Further, several IUMS services such as a disaster detection and prevention system (DDPS), a bus information system (BIS) and a real time location system (RTLS) we demonstrated in order to verify the employment of IUMS for the realization of a future ubiquitous city (U-city).

  • In this paper, we present the system that user can search and manage data using united interface and user can define search field dynamically. The feature of this system is that it is possible to manage multiple polymorphic meta information first. Second, there is a database integration bus that can support easy integration between the various systems. Third, it is possible to set the search item for each user which can customize polymorphism data for each user. The system studied in this paper is expected to be capable of managing big data, which is currently well received in the field of ICT. In addition, it will be possible to effectively manage multi-species polymorphic data in various fields in the future and to easily integrate between systems having various environments.

  • Vehicle location detection and wireless communication method have be designed along the same lines as GPS, CDMA and WLAN, which is based upon the selecting factors such as state-of-art technology trend, accuracy, stability, and economic feasibility, in order to select the optimum method of information communication networks for integrated "Transportation-Power-Facilities" on the electric bus. In addition, the key features of each alternative for an efficient linkage have been review and the integration methodology for linking among Transportation Charging Center, Transportation(ITS, BIS) Center and smart Grid Center has been drawn up based on a technical level of difficulty of each alternative, political and administrative difficulties, and expense justification.
